Guest guest
Hi Becky, I have a Plymouth Voyager and love it... I don't have to fall into or climb out of the vehicle like I had to when we had our Century Buick car. I was involved in a little car accident awhile back and so my van had to go into the shop today for a week for body repairs. The guys insurance company is paying the added expense of a mini-van so that I can still get around... However it doesn't have the keyless entry so I will struggle to unlock the van doors when I need to use it.... Those little things really can matter sometimes... When I told them I needed a van I made sure and told them it couldn't be a Chevy van because they are on a truck frame, where as the Chrysler, Ford, Dodge are on car frames. The van on the truck frame is to tall for me to get into and I'm 5'8 " . The rental van is a Dodge caravan and has sliding doors on both side.... Now I get to see if I like that feature better... I'm sure I will.... It will make it easier for me with groceries and such. I sure am going to miss my scooter while my van is being repaired. I'm glad I have a manual wheelchair too. OH YES, your question about what you could possibly do to help yourself get into and out of a vehicle.... Buy another van.... LOL (sorry, I don't have any suggestions for you..... I wish I did, please be careful....). I used to have a van, but it bit the dust. Now when I go somewhere I have to drive our other car, its so low. I have trouble getting in and out of it. Getting in isn't so bad, shoot I can bend and fall in! But getting out! I turn, I pull up, I struggle, I'm worn out by the time I get out. Any one else having these problems? Any ideas? ~>Becky M,
Guest guest
I think Becky brought up this problem we have getting out of autos. This usually works for me: I put both feet on the ground. My arms are stronger than my legs so I find a place on the back of the seat for one hand & a place on the dash or door arm rest for the other. I stiffen both legs & push up with my arms until I'm vertical. I do not ride in the back of a two door car. Alice
