Been busy for a few days for just getting back to this. My cardio

appointment has been scheduled for the 26th. When is yours?

SO - since you and I seem to be swimming around outside the same boat,

I have questions.

Do you have weird sweats? Not just at night, but all the time? Then

follows the freezing cold feeling? All this with a 97.2 temp. Do

you feel completely depleted when they happen? Are you having chest

pain? Back pain? Are you taking Lasix? Can you feel your lungs

push up against your heart when you breathe deeply?

I've been blaming all this stuff on my lungs. I haven't worried

about stressing my lungs because my heart was so strong. Sadly,

maybe it is not. My heart was enlarged when I got so sick the first

time and got my diagnosis but I had double pneumonia as well then.

How are you feeling now?

... I see my cardio on the 20th. Last year I had a stress-test and then (can't remember what it's called) Dr. went through groin into heart....found everything to be fine. Since then, x-ray shows a slight enlargement and also an irregular heart beat. Hmmmm. Have no idea what's going on. I sure have not connected heart/IPF together unless it's the sob I've had for so long did some damage. Heart is a muscle.

Yes, I have sweats...odd times of the day and also at night on occasion. No, I do not have either "all the time" and do not have "freezing cold afterward". My temp is also same as yours.

I feel 'depleted' all the time. lol. I do have some chest pain/back pain....no Lasix. Strangely, I find O2 seems to help the chest pain. Hmmmm.

"Lungs against the heart". No, I guess I don't feel that. However, I wouldn't know what "that" feels like.

I too blamed all on the IPF but when I've had the oximeter tests my heart went crazy. From 110>60s>30s>70s>90s>110>down to 31. So I'm glad to go and find out for sure what's going on with me.

I'm feeling pretty good. The O2 really helps. I could easily wear it all day! I do take it off at times....just to save on the darned electric bill. Although Peggy says her bill didn't go up more then about $20.

What is your biggest problem right now?

SOB, chest pain & tired.

My pulmonologist says my lungs are clear and there is nothing in my

lungs that can feel pain BUT then he turns around and talks about

pleural pain.

In the hospital the first time the cardiologist & the pulmonologist

kept arguing about whether or not I was in congestive heart failure.

They decided probably not and the enlarged heart was just stress from

the lungs. I have had a stress test and had a little heart monitor

computer that I could slap on if I felt something weird but neither

showed much. They did several echocardiograms back then but

nothing " of significance " showed up except for a weird T-wave that

they could not explain. I'm pretty sure I'm going to push for more

than a " probably " answer this time. Before I was not in any shape to

do that and didn't have enough info about what was going on in my

lungs.

I am coughing up some kind of junk, it is not coming from my lungs &

my nose is clear.

... SOB, chest pain, tired.

Me too but it sounds like you have it more severely than I.

If the 'junk' you're coughing isn't from your lungs (how do you know for sure it isn't?) could it be sinus? How many places can 'junk' come from?...lol

Yes, do ask questions about your heart this time around. I will too and we can compare the info we get. Maybe we can be of help to others on the board as well. Of course we know we can't "dx" each other but it is helpful to compare and also to know we're not alone. I think the heart stuff scares me more than the IPF.

Heart can bring about a sudden death but I'm thinking IPF wont' do that.

God help us on our journey.

Me too, . I am very afraid of my heart being involved. I

remember sitting in the cardio's office for followup after the

hospital & thinking that this is a world I do not want to live in.

My respiratory therapist in lung rehab used to say it was better to

have heart disease than lung disease because heart disease can

usually be surgically repaired these days. That does not make me

really feel much better now though.

The whole sudden death thing is very frightening.

Hi Girls Low blood sugar can cause sweats as well as high sugar levels. The good old Prednisone will do that to ya Been Diabetic from drugs since 8/04 PSher Bauman wrote: ... Thanks . Unfortunately I am also diabetic now from drugs. Just

started Lantus at night about 2 weeks ago. Plus 1000 mg Metformin x2

daily & 15 mg glipizine x2 daily. Low blood sugar isn't usually my

thing. I check sugar multiple times during the day. I truly wish

this was low blood sugar. In fact that would be super.

I've also been told possibly it is menopause because I am, uh humm,

of a certain age, but NOBODY takes 3 years for that and I am post-

hysterectory anyway.

It is hard to dress because the weather is psychotic around here

anyway but with the sweats I keep both a fan & a heater plugged in.

I just switch back & forth between them.

And the heart stuff is all the more reason to always make sure you're

using enough oxygen. Hopefully your oximeter arrives soon. Guess they

weren't prepared to be flooded from the breathe-support forum.

Thanks ... I do recall now that low blood sugar can be a cause too.

There are no enough weeks in a month to check out everything, is there. I deal with whatever 'pinches' me the worst!

I think the oximeter will be here next week.

I do use O2 most of the day. Just simply breathe better and I think it makes the chest discomfort (not really PAIN) feel better.

These little tips are always good to find. Another good one for the newbies.

Knowledge helps me too Bruce. I can't make good decisions for me if I don't have enough information about me.

Yes, there are those who "don't want to know" . I wonder if it is really any easier for them?

Well, back to my movie........

Last August I had 19 medical appointments, either doctor or tests. That

is in 23 week days. Then September I reduced it to 11. October was only

6, but, of course, I also was in the hospital 5 days for surgery,

November 10, December 7.

Now I'm down to 3 or 4 per month.

Actually IPF helped me in some respects in that regard, because some

other issues have become largely irrelevant. So your " pinches " theory

with me its a " relevance " and in agreement with physicians. For

instance, my neurological issues which were being explored further don't

matter as the IPF explains the greater concerns and anything else to be

learned would be of no real use. Now, I do have a few coming up based on

previous test results and conversations with my pulmonologist but mostly

probably one time things. If its my lungs, I'm going to get right to

doctor, but otherwise not going to spend all my time back and forth.

Bruce.... I think I said the same thing...lol. I don't want to go back and forth either.

Now it's cardio. I will f/u on all that's necessary...then I'm hoping for cardio rehab.

Some months are full for me too. Usually all IPF related and then the calendar clears for about three months again.

But it is always something....last thing was cataract surgery, now cardio, then left eye cataract.

If it weren't for this stuff I'd be housebound for sure. So at least I get out. lol

Oh, yes, will tell us what you said, or close enough to understand.

As I wrote earlier.......back to my movie.

I went to Dr. On Sat. As I was coughing up junk. I won't even explain as it was gross. I was coughing about every 30 sec. Too. Only had a nures Practioner but he put MO on 500 mg. Leviquinn and some Tussin strong cough syrup. I could not use my CPAP last night as I was spitting up "junk" all of the time. I was also weak and did not go to church last eve with Joanie. I feel better this am with the Ox. Joanie has to wofk kitchen at church this a.m. But I still do not feel like going to help.

I am also on Fosamax, is anyone else? This counteracts the Prednisone for the osteoporosis.

You know we should get jobs in the Dr. Office as aids for anyone coming in with our symptoms. After being on this site for just a few days I feel like I am becoming an expert just associating with you great warriors.

If anyone questioning the disease could just have it for a week they would become more sympathetic.

I,m rambling but one last. When I worked for G.E. I worked for a great boss but one dat after 65 days of 12 hours or more I told him I was wore out. He said if you are looking for sympathy look in the dictionary between sh-t and syphillis. I never asked for sympathy again.

Have a great day.

Better today, thanks. Rested mostly yesterday. Church this AM. Today

is my daughter's 25th birthday. She lives in Florida at Tyndall AFB so

I won't get to see her. That's OK because she is doing well and is

happy.

Thanks Geeta!

Morning Joe and Joanie...I guess it's morning still. Sure was hard to get up this morning. My body wasn't buying the time change!

Sorry you had a tough time but later posts from you show you're doing better so that's good.

Hey Joanie, we all get addicted to this site. I can't tell you the number of mornings I come here to "check in for awhile" and 3-4 hrs later, I'm still here!

Enjoy your Sunday.

Geeta...I guess I'm not to chrpy these past many days. Thanks for asking Geeta. I've had a tougher time coping w/recent progression than w/ original dx. My family too. I think after a 2 year lull we got complacent and progression brought that to a sudden halt!

I'm still soooooooo tired. Having a cardio workup soon and that may give answers.

How about you, you doing ok?

Hugs across the water!

I think its natural that certain moments of the disease hit us hard and

sometimes it is related to other things going on with us. It may be a

drop or something symbolic like oxygen or needing to change equipment.

Seasons also play a role. We've had some awful weather recently that

affects me but affects the perfectly healthy as well. In Oregon, while

you might be use to it, I know the darkness of January and February and

the rain if accompanying any change in my condition would definitely

impact me.

I don't think those outside of Oregon realize we don't have steady rain. We may have a few days or more but then the sun comes out and it's in the 50s and wonderful. A real treat. Then maybe more rain/sun again. I so love Oregon. The constant green is breathtaking. I was in Longview TX for four years and when I crossed the line back into Oregon...looking over a vast viewpoint of green trees and a beautiful river I swore I would never leave again. That was about 1978.

Are you as loyal to your DFW area or do you actually prefer somewhere else?

One strange thing I've noticed. There are few of us here in the PNW with IPF. Other than myself there's Joy and Armede in Seattle WA, Kathie in Tacoma WA, (I think this is her name) in Riddle OR. A couple more who have left the board and further south in CA about 6 or so.

This disease seems to hit mid west>>TX and on from there.

Of course our air family over the waters too!

I'm sure we thrive on what we have become accustomed.

Later.

I would say more from Texas, because more people here. As to being

loyal, no way.

Favorite place I've ever lived is South Florida. Next, probably

Chattanooga, then North Carolina.

And I know exactly the balance of sunny days in Portland (not throughout

the state) because I once was with a division of a company that they

considered relocating our division. So did extensive research. Yes, the

green is beautiful. And the DFW area is ugly....nothing but concrete, no

hills. People use to Oregon love it but people who move there from

sunnier areas often have a very difficult time adjusting. I've lived in

the delta of Mississippi and midtown Manhattan NYC and have found good

and bad about all areas. Considered moving a year or so ago, thought,

analyzed. And, today (before knowing about IPF which only makes it more

so) it just makes sense to be where I am.

Other than it being not pretty, only two things I really dislike here:

1-the traffic (and I don't deal with that anymore) 2-the climate

(extreme heat in summer and then still some cold in winter).

I do think there is something to be said for staying put. Not always of course.

We are in an active process of apt hunting. I have to get downstairs and we want to be closer to Lysa who lives about 45 minutes away. So our search is near her. Otherwise, I couldn't be pried out of here. A move is a huge job, even a short distance and just as much work w/utilities /mail and cable and such. This move the kids/friends will have to do. We used to just call the movers but it's so expensive now that it's not an option this time.

But back to above, I think most of us want to be where it's familiar and we know our way around the area. No place on this earth is it perfect, huh.

We have horrid traffic around and in the Portland area. And I too dislike the hot weather we can get in the summer. Of course not like DFW!

Our disease makes everything harder. I'm glad you are content to be where you are Bruce.
