Guest guest
Interesting. Dr. Mercola had similar things to say about cod liver oil. The differences in brands is the processing. Some are synthetic and some are natural. I take Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver Oil at the recommendation of Weston A. Price and he said that we need the vitamin A. People have taken CLO for many years and the synthetics have only been around for a short time. Maybe that's the problem. The ratio of D to A is off in the brands the doctor who wrote this newsletter listed. I need to investigate this some more! Incidentally, Dr. Cannell sells multivitamins in competition with the brands he admonishes. I don't think multis are so great. They are one size fits all and we are not the same size. > > I just got this by email a couple days ago from the Vit D Council, and found it interesting. And I agree, no such thing as an average MS person! > > Crystal >
Guest guest
Yeah, Vitamin A is also on the recommended supplement list for BBD, but it's not something I ever added to my regimen. I did recently finish a bottle of Country Life's cod liver oil myself, while I was looking for another brand of fish oil since Bluebonnet started adding the soy-based vitamin E. It sounds like this is similar to the theory of making sure you have the proper ratio of Omega 3, 6, and 9. I don't know about you, but I invest a lot of time & energy into this MS stuff already, so I try to employ K.I.S.S. as much as possible. I'm beginning to believe that the devil's in the details. Guest guest
That's why I did the hair mineral analysis. I got fed up with guessing what I need. It's much easier and is far less expensive now. I don't buy as many bottles of stuff anymore. I quit taking supplements for awhile a few years ago but I somehow migrated back to them with a vengeance! I still prefer to get nutrition from food but that isn't always enough. I'm more selective based on the test results. Guest guest
This confuses me. (Usually doesn't take much!) I am hypothyroid, and we don't convert carotenes to vitamin A very well. Plus, I have weak lungs and I find the vit. A helps them. I am not as prone to respiratory illnesses when I take the A. Plus, I think about the Eskimoes, who, before recent times, ate the organs of the animals and fish they killed for food, including the liver, and they didn't have ANY cancers (before modern foods took hold). So I don't really know what to think. Beverly > > So it is not just autistic children that are being harmed by vitamin A. Avoid cod liver oil like the poison it is and check your multivitamins. Life Extension Foundation just reformulated their multivitamin to contain only 500 IU of preformed retinol. And, I am happy to report that Purity Products, which markets my vitamin D, has no preformed retinol at all in any of their multivitamins, only beta carotene. Purity has also stopped selling cod liver oil. Now, if only Carlson, Solgar, Nature's Way, and other companies would stop selling cod liver oil and stop selling their concentrated vitamin A supplements to a country whose problem is widespread sub-clinical vitamin A toxicity, I'd be a happier agitator. > > Cannell, MD > Executive Director > Vitamin D Council >
