Guest guest
Hello everyone, I wrote a few months ago about severe ankle pain and swelling. After taking prednisone for a few weeks, I'm currently on Humira once a week dose, raised my methotrexate, and started taking narcotic pain medicine. I take other meds as well for sleep, tense muscles (PRN), dry mouth, etc. I have RA, fibro, sjogren's, raynauds, a neck fusion because of RA, depression and anxiety. One thing I'm learning is that I don't have to live in pain. I went to a pain specialist and explained that I need adequate pain relief. I have come to realize that a pain specialist is there to address the pain much more so than my rheumy, and that my primary care is also a better source for that. I'm going to have multiple facet joint injection in my cervical spine again. I had a radio frequency oblation which didn't work for me. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone on this list. You have been a source of comfort, information, and support throughout the day. I live in Castle Rock, Colorado. Diagnosed RA and fibro 13 years, 47 years old. G. Guest guest
Well my prescription pain medication options vary and each is time limited as far as how soon or often I can take it again (4 or 6 hrs etc) but they each are totally an optional decision for me. None of what i have prescribed for pain control are eirher daily or what i would call scheduled. I might decide that I need a strong type one day and not feel enough pain of that same degree or type the whole next day or two and so on and so forth until finally as with my hip I no longer even gave pain meds a thought anymore. L > > > > > > As a former RN I should know the answer to this question, but I don't. I hate taking pain killers but realise that at times thay are necessary. I recently had an excruciating tooth abscess and the dentist was able to prescribe medication to control the pain. I asked him how I would know when the pain had eased if I was still on the pain killers. He just said to ease off a little and see what happened ... not quite as precise an answer as I was looking for. > > I realise I am a bit off-topic but exactly the same argument could be applied to pain after hip surgery. > > Aussie > >
