Guest guest
Hi Girl! Ok it's my turn now . I appreciate you sharing your experience with me. as you know it's 3 days more till I go into the big OR but I am so ready for it. ( although I do have to admit a little scared) but it's a relief to hear one more success story. I live only 45 mins away from the hospital and my husband will be with me on monday for the surgery. he can be my angel : ) Keep up the good work and I hope to be seeing you on saturday. Guest guest
Donna I am so sorry that I did not have a chace to let you know but, I ended up having my surgery on Oct 4th. I asked Dr. Rutledge if I could have it moved back to the 4th and he agreed. Hey, Im back home and feeling great except for a few air bubbles here and there. Then again I had some of those before the surgery. I don't remember a thing about the surgery except being wheeled to the pre-OR room. When I was taking down for prep the nurse anesthisist(sp) started my IV and then the Anestesiologist came in to ask me a couple of questions. Within 5-10 minutes i was taken into the OR and asked to slide over to the itsy bitsy teeney weeney table which I was afraid that I would break down. Anyway one of his assistants came in and began to wrap my legs which was kinda of embarrassing because they did not have hose to fit me. The hose are for your circulation and to prevent blood clots from forming. To be completely honest with you I can not recall anyhthing else after that point. The nurse said that she would let me know when she was about ready to put me to sleep but, I don't recall anything else. I remember waking up in my room and having this nagging pain in my back and feeling like vomiting. The nurse gave me some medicine in my IV for nausea and I fell asleep after that. Oh I do remember my mom kissing me goodbye because she had to go home. She said that I was out of it. Later that night I got up and went to the restroom while my nurse waited outside the door. Next I felt so good that I decided to go for a walk around the nurses station. Everybody drills it into your head so much about getting up and walking around so, I walked around the nurses station a couple of times and retired to my room. The next thing that I did was get on the phone to let everybody at home know that I had went for a walk already. People were so surprised to hear how well I was doing and so was I. I got up the next day and looked at myself in the mirror and was surprised to see that I actually looked better the day after surgery than before I had surgery. It may sound funny but, it's true. The next day I did not look so hot but, it was not because of feeling badly or anything. That look was more like the look of a soldier who finally won one battle. Now im working on the war. The war is actually reaching and maintaining my goal weight which has yet to be determined. Well, im sure that I have filled your ears with just enough to make you curious and excited so I will retire to bed now . Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help you out. Hey I will be at the clinic on saturday morning to get my staples out. I hope to see you then. Guest guest
Hi, everyone. My name is Loren, and I am considering undergoing this surgery. I have been overweight all of my conscious life (there are no pictures of me at my proper weight), and although I believe I am in fairly decent health, I am now starting to have more problems as I approach 40. In the last year I have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes and the earliest stages of diabetic retinopathy. (For the record, my sugar is now well under control.) In addition, I have a family history of heart disease, and I very probably have sleep apnea - my father (who has it) and my mother (who listens to my father have it) both say I have very bad bouts of apnea. I have tried exercising (which I still do, just too sporadically.) I have tried diets and programs, including the Optifamine diet. Nothing had worked long-term. I am tired of feeling like I am fighting a losing battle. So, although I consider this a drastic solution, it is one I am considering right now. I guess what I need is a little reassurance, and a little information. 1) I don't seem to see too many guys on the patient lists (although I know it can be hard to tell by the name sometimes.) What is different about the experience for us, as opposed to what the ladies go through? 2) I haven't talked to my doctor yet. He is a very good man whom I trust completely. But I imagine most physicians are going to be reluctant to recommend surgery for this condition. Can some of you share with me how you approached your doctors about this? It would really help me. I have already read the patient handbook, so that gives me some idea of what is involved. But, to tell you the truth, I am still a little scared. I have never had any surgery, and only spent two nights in the hospital in my life. Please, talk to me a little about your experiences. I would really appreciate it. I look forward to hearing from you, Loren
