$1,500.00 for 4 shots ( a months worth) Wow!!!!

I'm very fortunate to have health insurance and only have to pay $45.00 for

a co-pay.

I'm so very sorry for those without insurance.

Why so expensive? I could understand if someone had to squeeze the potion

out of a million bee's hienny (sp?)?

Happy Holidays to everyone and I hope you are able to have a pain free

time!

My hubby has RA and rheumatoid lung. He takes Enbrel and our copay is $50 but we

applied for an Enbrel card through the company that makes Enbrel. This company

pays our copay. It does not matter what your income is. Go to enbrel.com to

apply.

When my Reumy gave me the prescription for Enbrel he gave me a co-pay assistance

card. Enbrel pays the co-pay for six months and then my co-pay will be no more

than ten dollars. At least that's the way I understand it.  If I didn't have

that card my co-pay would be $120 dollars. There's no way I could afford that.

I just started Enbrel on Friday. It took me two months to get up enough nerve to

get the prescription filled. I'm not afraid of needles as long as someone else

is doing the sticking instead of me. The pharmacist told me he could give me the

shot if I didn't think I could do it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I use the sure-click so I don't have to actually see the needle. Before I could

start on Enbrel, I had to have a chest x-ray done and they sent me a letter to

tell me it was abnormal. I got pretty upset about it and I called them and they

said I had COPD and that I would need to take a breathing test at my next

appointment.

Hi Pam,

I was just now on line to apply for the Enbrel card that Lynn mentioned. And

then the phone rang, it was the pharmacy that is going to be delivering the

Enbrel. They told me that Enbrel automatically signed me up for the first 6

months. And then after that the co-pay will be $9.00!

The Enbrel will be here Wednesday. I can't really say I'm afraid of needles

either. I just don't like them poking me! LOL! My husband will do it for me

because I'm afraid that my reflex will yank it back out before the injection is

done. And that would be a waste of med's.

Keep us posted on how your Enbrel is working for you. And how the breathing

test came out?

Thanks for your reply,

Pam,

Did a pulmologist tell you that you had COPD? My hubby had an abnormal chest

xray and was sent to a pulmologist and he ordered a CT scan of his lungs. He was

diagnosed with rheumatoid lung which is RA attacking the lungs. Ask your doctor

if you should see a pulmologist. It is important to get the correct diagnosis.

Lynn,

I haven't been to a pulmologist yet. My Reumy did a baseline chest x-ray

before I could start on the Enbrel. I talked to his nurse on the phone

and she said I would need to take a breathing test at my next

appointment. The only breathing problem I have is occasional shortness

of breath. I used to be a light smoker, about 2 packs a week if that

much. I have worked in a cotton mill for 24 years and we have to take a

breathing test once or twice a year depending on how high we can blow

after working in the cotton dust for 4 hours. I usually have to take it

twice a year but the test I took in May was so good they said I didn't

have to take it but one time this year. What is the difference in COPD

and rheumatoid lung? What symtoms did your husband have? When I told my

doctor at the pain clinic that my Rheumy thinks I have COPD she said she

didn't see how they could tell that from just one x-ray. I thought the

pain patches might be causing the shortness of breath, but she said if

that was the case I would be having shortness of breath all the time.

I have to do another Enbrel shot today. The last time I did the shot it

bled quite a bit because I'm on a blood thinner because of a defect in

my blood. More than anything else I hope the Enbrel helps with the

fatique I feel all the time. I work the night shift 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. 2

days on, 2 days off and every other weekend. On my days off I don't feel

like doing anything I need to be doing. I just want to sleep all the

time. Sometimes I feel like I'm sleeping my life away.

Pam,

There is a difference between copd and rheumatoid lung. I think copd is an

obstructive lung disease and rheumatoid lung is a restrictive lung disease.

Rheumatoid lung causes pulmonary fibrosis which my hubby has. His lungs are

permanently damaged from the RA.

My hubby used to smoke but stopped 2 years ago. He has been coughing for a long

time but his PCP said it was asthma and that was how he was treated for years.

In August 08, his cough worsened and he had severe joint pain for the first

time. He went to his PCP and a chest xray and blood work were ordered. The lung

CT scan showed the pulmonary fibrosis in his lungs. His RA blood test,

c-reactive protein and sed rate were sky high. He was sent to a pulmologist and

was diagnosed with rheumatoid lung. The pulmonologist sent him to a rheumy. He

is now treated by the rheumy and pulmonary doc. He takes 17.5 mg of prednisone,

150 mg of Imuran and 50mg sureclick Enbrel. They are working on getting his

dosage of Enbrel lowered.

From reading on the Internet, I have found articles that lots of people with RA

have an abnormal chest xray because RA effects the lungs. Please go one time to

see a pulmonologist. You probably have nothing to worry about but it's better to

be safe. A lung CT scan is what you need. A chest xray does not tell exactly

what is happening. After hubby was diagnosed, we changed pulmologist to a doctor

that is a center of excellence for PF.

Good luck. I hope that I haven't upset you. I care.

Take care,

Lynn in Louisiana

I made a mistake in my post. The docs are trying to lower his prednisone, not

his enbrel. Sorry.
