Guest guest
I have had Synvisc several times and it did seem to help somewhat - I ended up with the knee replacement anyway.........They seemed to help my mom for quite awhile before she had her surgery. Thanks Pat in So Oreg. Bureau Alvarez ________________________________ From: " mercycove@... " <mercycove@...> Sent: Mon, December 27, 2010 2:51:51 PM Subject: [ ] RA in knees...SynviscOne... Hi...has anyone had the SynviscOne treatment for RA in their knees? Did it help? I am a pretty tough cookie with pain. However, the one procedure I dread is withdrawing fluid from the knee and injections there. I just really hate it. But the pain has gotten to the point where I literally wake myself up during sleep crying, and am having a hard time walking. I hope to put off surgery as long as is possible/reasonable. Any thoughts appreciated. Love... Cheryle, in Oregon (aka Tess)
Guest guest
Tess, years ago I had a steroid injection into my knee. It wasn't pleasant to get an injection there, but it did ease the pain. I didn't have to have any fluid withdrawn. Good luck! I hope it helps tremendously. Guest guest
I've never had an injection in my knee but have had many over the years in my shoulders and one time in the arch of my foot. It's no party in my shoulders but it always gives me many months of reprieve from pain. Now the injection in the arch of my foot? Ha- it would be a cold day in he'll before I EVER did that again! But I would think the knee would be similar to the shldr joint and do make sure your doc " sprays " the area with the " freezing " spray that lessens the injection pain considerably ( although it's more the thought of it then the real pain). It really is worth the bit of discomfort for the end result! Good luck to you! in SC Sent from my iPhone On Dec 27, 2010, at 8:11 PM, marysue <marysue@...> wrote: > Tess, years ago I had a steroid injection into my knee. Guest guest
Thank you each for your thoughts. I have had fluid withdrawn and injections in my knee quite a few times. It really did help for a time. I hope the Synvisc does help and allow me to postpone surgery. Love... Guest guest
The procedure is a little uncomfortable but nothing compared to the pain I was having in the knee before the procedure. When Dr. withdrew the fluid I felt a little relief immediately and a couple of hours later I could not believe the difference. The knee felt better than it had felt in several years and with a few other changes (giving up diet cokes and any form of aspartame) I am feeling better than I have in several years. I had the fluid withdrawn and steriod injection in July and my Dr. said it might not help at all or could last a few months if it did. Almost 6 months later I am having no pain.My husband and I were looking at pictures from last Christmas the other night and he commented " it's so good to see you with your smile back " . You could just see the pain in my face through the pictures. It feels so good to feel like smiling again. I had felt bad for so long I had about resigned myself to the fact that I would never feel better. I am looking forward to spring and working in the yard and doing some small hikes-something I always enjoyed and haven't done in several years. For all of you still in bad times-just keep trying to find what works for you and know that better days can be ahead. I really attribute a lot of the improvement overall-more energy, less pain, etc. to removing aspartame from my diet. I was " hooked on diet cokes " and was drinking several a day in early July when I got a really bad UTI and did not eat or drink anything for a few days because of the nausea and I noticed that my RA pain improved greatly while not drinking them so I decided to eliminate them and all forms of aspartame from my diet. Best move I have made in a long time. Praying everyone finds what works to make improved days ahead and a Happy New Year to all. linda ________________________________ From: " mercycove@... Guest guest
Hi Everyone...I had the knee draining and SynviscOne injection. My rheumy is a sweetie...he used the 'freezing' agent like crazy, then the lidocaine/novacaine (?) which did hurt like heck. The draining just felt weird but I did NOT feel the SynviscOne injection at all! The fluid he drained was sent for a culture as he didn't think it looked right (not sure what that means.) The injection site itself hurt just a little after a few hours, but then was ok. However the next day I developed a really awful pain in the inside front of my knee (under the injection site and in the opposite place where my knee pain usually is). It got worse and was so bad I felt nauseous. It continued like that over the weekend and through Monday. As of today it is about 75% better. I guess it can take up to 4 weeks for the SynviscOne to help. Well, there's my report. Thanks for your encouragement. Love, Cheryle, in Oregon (aka Tess)
Guest guest
I'm glad it seems to be working. Let us know what becomes of the culture. I am seriously considering Synviscone so I am really interested. Thanks for the info. In Good Health Carol Re: [ ] RA in knees...SynviscOne... Guest guest
Tess, I hope that the knee will continue to improve and the improvement will last a long time. Guest guest
Dear Tess Happy New Year my dear friend. Sorry it is starting off with so much pain. Unfortunately, I remember those days of knee drainings and medication injections. Usually the reason for a biopsy is an infection or something of that nature. The scenario you describe is pretty much standard and through the years, the only remedy for the pain and possible swelling is plain old ice. All the injections and what not are worth it, but getting to that relief are many painful days. Good luck and when you go to the freezer for those ice packs be sure to get a glass of wine while you are waiting. Again Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours.
