Pam, could the sore on your hand be MRSA? If so, you need a certain antibiotic

to treat it. I've always held off on Enbrel while I was healing from any kind of

infection. My rheum called pnil the " rheumatologists Tylenol " assuring me that

it was typically mild. That said you should have eye exams every 6-12 mos while

you're on it. I was bothered by floaters for a while but the opthomologist I saw

at town basically said " welcome to aging " . ;)

If you have floaters in your eye, that sounds like a

detached

retina to me. You might want to get that checked out as soon as possible because

you can loose your eyesight in that eye permanently if it is a detached retina.

I.m not trying to scare you but my mother in law waited too long and lost 100%

of her sight in that eye.

Subject: [ ] Infection While On Enbrel

Has anyone had a bad infection while on Enbrel? I've had a real bad

infection on the back side of my left hand. My hand and wrist were

swollen up twice the size it usually is and I had two sores that look

like boils on it. If you've ever seen a spider bite that's what it

looked like. When it finally opened up it drained for a whole day. Then

I had to go to the doctor the next day and she numbed it and pushed the

rest of the pus out of it.I had to take two courses of a strong

antibiotic to get over it. I haven't been to my Reumy yet. I called him

and his nurse told me to quit taking the Enbrel while I was on the

antibiotic. My family doctor treated me for the infection. I've been on

Enbrel for 10 months and this is the first time anything like this has

happened. I'm very thankful that's it's almost healed and I can go back

to work on Monday.

What kind of eye problems can Plaquenil cause? Tuesday I developed a

floater on my right eye and I thought it might have something to do with

the Plaquenil.

I had a detached retina 10 yrs ago and regained my sight. Generally you have a

flash of light when your retina tears and a loss in your field of vision. A

blank spot appears where the tear is and you can see nothing in that part of

your field of vision. If your retina tears on top you lose vision on the bottom

etc... Check your vision by looking straight ahead and slowly moving your

wiggling finger towards the center of your eye. Do this from the sides, top and

bottom. Test both eyes. If you have a tear you won't see it till it's almost

directly in front of your eye ball. But as Randy said go see an eye professional

even if it's just a floater as time is of the essence in preserving your vision.

It may be nothing as many people have floaters with no tears.

Kate, I think it could have been MRSA. I did a search on it and a lot of

the pictures I saw looked like the infection that I had on my hand. The

whole top of my hand was red and felt hot and the sores looked a lot

like what I had. The antibiotic that I was put on was Bactrim DS

800-160. I read that if you don't take all the antibiotic that it can

come back even if it looks like it's cleared up. I was driving to the

pain clinic 45 minutes away when I first noticed the eye floater. I even

pulled off the interstate because I thought I had a bug in my hair. When

I told my doctor about it she arranged for me to see a neurosurgeon at

the same clinic because she didn't want me to drive home until I got it

checked out. When I asked him how to get rid of it, he said you don't.

He said after I get used to it I would probably forget it was there.

Did your floaters go away or did you just get used to them?

I've had floaters off and on since I was a kid. Because I'm paranoid regarding

any infections I tell my GP when I start seeing them. In my situation floaters

tend to be a heads up that I've got pinkeye from the kids again. Once that

clears up I'll have the occasional floater for a few days then none for months

until the Pinky reappears.

Lots of floaters should be checked out- it may indicate an infection somewhere

that needs to be checked and cared for.
