I hate to hear you have RA being so young. Everyone says the climate is better

in Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico but I think you should go check it out first.

It is a very real climate change. In some of these areas it's hotter than hell

in the summer and if you're not used to it you may hate it. I took my girlfriend

to Las Vega in August for a week when it was over 108 every day of the week.

Being from Washington state her whole life, when we were done with the trip she

told me I was out of my mind if I wanted to live there. I lived in Tucson,

Arizona for two years, the joke was during the summer it's so hot small animals

explode in direct sunlight! I didn't mind the heat, but my girlfriend (of nine

years) can't stand it, she's allergic and actually breaks out in hives from the

heat. So those are some things to consider. Hope it helps.

Subject: [ ] My First Rheumy Appointment...

Well...I am very excited to say I truly like my new Rheumatologist. He is very

down to earth, positive and realistic. My husband came along for my very first

appointment. I am now on 20 mg/Prednisone a day to start...anyone willing to

share their experience/side effects while taking this?? Also, because I am young

(24) and hoping to be pregnant soon...he does not want to start me on MXT...and

is going to try to work with my insurance to get me onto Enbrel right

away...however I am very afraid they might not pay for it...and from what I

understand it is very expensive. He also mentioned Humira...I also asked him

about moving to Nevada for a better climate and he doesn't think it will have

enough of an effect to warrant moving out there...what do you all think of this?

Hi :

I am glad you like your new Rheumy. That is such a good thing. I love

mine too.

As far as moving to a better climate, I would suggest that you take a

vacation there, and see how you feel when you are there. We took a

vacation to South West Florida, and I couldn't believe how much better I

felt here. Each day I was better and better, no more RA pain, I could

get in and out of the car easily. It was wonderful. We went home to

Cape Cod, sold our home, and moved here permanently. I have never been

sorry. It has been 5 years now, and my RA is very quiet, I have no

pain, etc. I have a wonderful Rheumy here.

I have been on Pred. daily for 6 years. It is a wonder drug for me. I

do hate the weight gain, but love being pain free better. I take the

max. doses of MTX injections, Placquenil, and Sulfasalizine. I also

take 10 mgs. a day of Pred. I have my blood drawn monthly for my

Rheumy, and my blood work is always perfect. No liver trouble at all.

I hope this info. helps you, and wishing you pain free days ahead.

Hugs,

Barbara
