Guest guest
Lornadrury and group; It sounds like your really feeling bad. Whether anyone believes you or not, you feel this pain. See a doctor as soon as possible. It sounds a lot like fibromyalgia. You need to see a doctor to have it diagnosed.. A rheumatoligist should be able to help you . Sorry for your pain, there is help out there. gentle hugs Clora From: lornadrury50 <lornakobus@...> Subject: [ ] scared of drinking liquids Date: Thursday, December 11, 2008, 3:22 AM Thanks to everyone that replied obout too much pain I seem to have a problem and I am not sure if there is anything one can do about it.I feel so simple asking my dr question because she might think I am stupid. My problem is I am scared to drink too many liquids as especially at night it is very difficult to get out of bed and go to the loo. When I walk it feels like I am walking on balls and it is so painful As the days go by I seem to be begging for the end of life. I know I am depressed and really trying very hard to get over it but most of the time I feel I am fighting a losing battle. Another problem I have is that the pain moves around alot today it will be my ankles , tomorrow the elbows next day my knees or toes or fingers or whatever and in some instance it will be different places at the same time Is there others that have the pain like that as my family thinks I am putting on AND MAKING IT WORSE THAN IT IS PLEASE HELP AND THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT GROUP
Guest guest
Lorna, Have you ever played or seen the game " whack a mole " where the moles pop up from different holes and you have to whack them back into the hole to score points. Sometimes our RA seems like that. You get one set of joints quiet and another set pops up and starts to cause pain. It's the nature of the beast that is RA. Luckily, as you progress on this journey, get your meds regulated, things will get better. Sometimes just getting a better understanding of things will help. Like the feeling of walking on stones, that is most likely RA acting up between the bones in your feet and causing swelling. So the synovium of the joints in your feet is swollen and has a lot of fluid. It gives you the feeling of walking on stones. I get the same thing. I do feel for you. Knowledge is key when dealing with RA.
Guest guest
When my RA started, it moved about from joint to joint like that. What medications are you on? Are you seeing a rheumatologist? It's important for RA to be treated aggressively to prevent joint damage. Guest guest
Lorna - have any of your doctors checked you for Fibromyalgia? Please don't think you're stupid - there is NO SUCH THING as a stupid question. Rheumatologist have heard much worse than anything we can possibly think of to ask. This is their job - to answer our questions and to keep working with us until they find a combination of meds that work for us. This is not a cut and dry situation we're in. Some are worse than others. Some combinations work for one, but not another. I am very concerned about you " begging for the end of life " . You don't have to be in this much pain! Have you been to a pain management doctor? He/she could work with your Rheumy to formulate a plan to help relieve your pain. As for your family - if they aren't going to be supportive of you and your quest to get this disease under control, then I don't think I would be talking with them. Its wrong and unfair of them to judge your pain levels based on what they see. Check out The Spoon Theory at http://butyoudontlooksick.com/ . Print it out - give it to your family members to read. Don't let someone else's opinion of what they can't see interfere with whatever you need to do for yourself to feel better. As far as the water drinking - be careful - my Rheumy told me to drink plenty of water. As for night time, maybe stop drinking water after 6pm so that your bladder may stay semi-empty during the night. Hang in there, Lorna. There is a combination of meds out there that will work for you. Keep in constant contact with your Rheumy and your regular doc until you get the results you want........Doreen > > Thanks to everyone that replied obout too much pain I seem to have > a problem and I am not sure if there is anything one can do about > it. Guest guest
I keep reading about the RA in the joints. I haven't had much of that but rather the attending muscles, tendons, and ligaments. IMHO, that's more painful and harder to treat and to live with because it moves around a lot more.In almost 20 years, I've not had a joint malformed except in my right hand. Am I missing something or is it the Fibro I'm confusing it with? Guest guest
Hello, Dennis. The primary target of RA is the synovial tissue of the joints. Guest guest
So I've been told, but I haven't seen it in me. Is that good or bad? Guest guest
Lorna dear, I really feel for your despair. Believe me, it's OK to get down about your pain and circumstances for a while because we all do that. But after getting better from an episode declare yourself a winner because you have met the challange and came through it. Unfortunately, the pain will always be there in some form or another. I don't know if it travels in RA, but I have fibromyalgia/cfs and the pain travels with that. I had some extremely difficult years in the early 90's and I was working. While sitting at my desk, I had pain all over-head to toe-, then on top of that I had the aches that would shoot from my ankels to my shoulder to my knee (s) to my foot to my back to my hands...just randomly shooting at me nonstop every few minutes. It was really very nausiating and my head felt like it was under water and I was holding my breath getting weaker. I would be so weak that I hardly had energy to talk to customers on the phone. I had very bad shooting needle like pain into my eyes that would take my breath away...literally. No one understood me or believed me, especially back then. One of my main focuses was to cover up what I was going through so no one else could see it. What got me through those years was that I had 3 children to support and care for and if I didn't do it there was no one elso who would...really. And here I am...still hurting and going through a miriad of hard times. Along the way and inbetween the misery, I had some nice times, watched my children grow up and now have 10 grandchildren. My life never went back to what it was 30 or so years ago, but it did continue with joy, love, and injections of hope. So, my point is that there is always a reason to go on, there is always a reason that can help you be more positive, just find the source. The people who are negative in your life have no place in your life to judge you, including your spouse, children, other relatives or friends and they need not be part of your inner most circle of life that you depend on. Find a personal support group if you can, find what ever and who ever can lift you up and give you positive feeling and pound the pavement to that end. You need positive caring feedback...DO NOT listen to those who are too selfish to take the time to try to understand what you are going through. It is in your right to pull away from them. If they ask why, you tell them that they are bad for your health because they are so negative. If they want to be in your life or a part of your life, tell them they need to educate themselves about the condition(s) you have and when they have something positive to say, you will listen. It's " tough love " so that you can go on.
