Dee, I too have bailed out from surgery because of my fears and insecurities.

However I did not give up and eventually had the operation I needed. I found

that I needed to be medicated immediately after I signed the consent forms

because my fears, however irrational they were, caused my judgment to be

clouded. I talked with my surgeon and told him how afraid I was as a little

child but that the adult in me knew I needed the operation. He agreed to the

medication because otherwise I told him that I would literally be jumping up

off the table. There is a solution for your concerns and you need to involve

Dr. R in reaching that solution. in Kansas

I don't understand something??? Always, when I have gone in for surgery, I

was already asleep!!! Aren't you asleep when you go in for this surgery in

Durham??? Catheter for bladder was inserted after I was asleep so I never

knew anything!!! That's the way they do it here. Some of you girls that

have already had your surgery, fill us in please.

Hi,

Yes that's true. The foley was put in in the OR and out in recovery. I

never knew I had one, which was great, cause that was one of my least

favorite things. (c-section

memories you know) I don't remember one single solitary thing about the OR.

I vaguely remember being wheeled in and that's about it. They are very good

at Durham!! The anesthetists are all super. You get a " little something " in

your IV to relax you and make you forget all that stuff while you are in

pre-op holding. Next thing I knew I was in My hospital bed and on the other

side!

Hope this helps,

I remember being rolled in to the OR and moving over on to the table. After

that, nothing, until recovery and a really sweet nurse talking to me.

I remember absolutely nothing from the time they gave me the versed in

pre-op holding until they rolled me into my room. Thank God.
