The Answer:

Do you want to get some attention at a party, or win a bar

bet? Ask this question and smirk as more people than not pipe

up: " Lindbergh. " Then you smugly shake your head and

remind them: Lindbergh was the first to fly it alone.

Sixty-six people flew across the Atlantic non-stop before him.

The first were W. Alcock and Arthur W. Brown. The two

Brits took off from Newfoundland on June 14, 1919, and landed

in Ireland the next day, eight years before " Lucky Lindy "

became the toast of two continents.

Lindbergh, called The Flyin' Fool before success made him

Lucky Lindy, did fly 1,000 miles longer than any previous non-

stop flight, and was the first to fly New York to Paris,

besides doing it alone. Amelia Earhart was the first woman to

make a solo crossing, Newfoundland to Ireland, in May, 1932.
