Guest guest
great list. what i thought was interesting was if 12-steps groups really are not religious then why aren't they included in the secular recovery list? hmmmm.
Guest guest
check out the xa group ARTS anonymous. it for people who are powerless over their own creativity! im a professional designer, i attended 4 years of art college, have practiced my art my entire life, and that is about the most insane concept on human creativity i have ever seen put forth.,( no more than AA i suppose.) i have known my fair share of artistic wackos in my life, but man, even they would have shaken their heads in disbelief at this load. being an artist is about being in control, its all empowering, their is nothing to be powerless over! their is hardly an act of humanity which can be more completly individualy empowering than the act of creation. i dare say, you cannot be powerless over over creativity, even if you choose to not apply it, you still have that power to choose. Guest guest
was told similar things. when i got sober and wished to live my life to potential again i was repeatedly chastised over and over. when i wanted to quit smoking i was told i shouldn't because i would drink,. when i wanted to take a night class to continue my education and expeince new personal growth, i was told i shouldn't if i would miss even one meeting. when i wanted to get into the gym and practice some self respect by getting my self in good psychical condition i was told by the brainiacs " that never kept anyone sober " . when i permanently quit smoking my sponsor said if i feel like drinking i should smoke. (wouldn't dealing with the reason i wanted to drink be a better choice?) when i told my sponsor about how i informed my mother who was dying from lung cancer that her husband and my father had prostate cancer and expressed my feelings of fear and heartache, i was asked coldly and rhetorically, " what are you gong to do? WORRY ABOUT IT? " ( i fired him right there in front of who home group, tore him the biggets asshole i have ever torn anyone in my life and turned my back on him forever) time and again any growth i desired or achieved which didn't included the 12-steps or a meeting was a target 100% of the time by the people in aa. my solution was i stopped going to AA. guess what? 3 years later, i still dont smoke, drink and i have been going to gym and riding my bike for 3 years (something i promised i would do for myself i f i quit drinking and smoking) and i am in best shape of my life and i feel great. what i learned was those thing i was discourage from pursuing, DO keep me sober, for without self respect, dreams to fulfill and growth to experience, sobriety is meaningless.
