Guest guest
Hi , My history is so similar to yours. I was approved for Enbrel just after it was approved by the FDA. It was my first relief from the pain of RA. Back then all the old drugs had to have failed before the expense of Enbrel was approved. It worked beautifully for me for approximately eight years, but then I got an infection that turned into pneumonia and it took so long for the pneumonia to go away that my rheumatologist was afraid for me to remain on Enbrel. I now take a pill -- Arava -- and am doing well. It took several months to kick in though. Enbrel helped me so fast that at first I was disappointed with Arava. I am glad I stuck it out though, since the side effects are fewer and it is easier to travel with pills! I had to have an operation on my right shoulder, but I was told that it wasn't due to RA. I had fallen at some point and damaged the rotator cuff. I hope you get full use of your shoulder back. Good luck with Humira. Sincerely, Patsy  ________________________________ From: mbdomby <mbdomby@...> Sent: Sun, November 22, 2009 6:36:02 AM Subject: [ ] Enbrel stopped working  Hello, I am new here. I have had RA for about 18 years. I failed at Methotrexate, Plaquenil, Immuran, Minocycline, allergic to sulfa, and those are the drugs I can remember. I started Enbrel right after it was FDA approved in 1998. It was a miracle drug for me for more than 10 years until this last June, when I started having shoulder pain. Since then it has moved all over and now has my left shoulder pretty much useless. I started Humira this last week and I'm hopeful I will be able to get back to where I was. I would like to talk to anyone who was on Enbrel long-term and had it stop working. I was on one of these RA list groups years ago and I remember a woman named Gloria (maybe her last name as Baswell or something similar) who was in the Enbrel clinical trials. Does anyone know what happened to her? Thank you.
