Guest guest
I am 40-years-old and after a strep infection last Dec., which led to joint pain, I have finally been diagnosed with erosive rheumatoid arthritis. My doc wants me to start methotrexate, folic acid, and after PPD Enbrel. I am a little leary of all of this because my father has RA and developed numerous infections while on Arava and Imuran. Looking for feedback from others in similar situation and any side effects or good things to say about medication! I know that not doing something will lead to permanent joint damage, but all of this is just new to me and hard to grasp! Donna
Guest guest
Hi Donna:     I want to wish you a warm welcome to our wonderful group of caring, loving, members. I too, have had RA for 6 1/2 years.     It took me awhile to find the right " cocktails " for my RA. I have been in a medicine induced remission for over 1 year now. My RA meds. are: MTX injections 1x a week, Placquenil, Sulfasalazine, Prednisone 10 mg., which I have been on daily since I was diagnosed with RA. I also take Leucovorin, 12 hours after I inject myself with MTX. I also take Vit. D 400mg. and 1200 mg. of calcium, which I take daily. I feel wonderful, and I don't know how long this remission will last, but I am most thankful to be out of all that pain and suffering each day.     I hope my information helps. I am the type of person that took everything my Rheumy. wanted me to. I have no regrets at doing so. I feel we would all be worse off not taking anything.     Hoping you feel better soon, and rest as much as you can. It sure helps me.  Hugs,  Barbara From: koala2u <koala2u@...> Subject: [ ] newly diagnosed Date: Monday, November 23, 2009, 3:19 PM  I am 40-years-old and after a strep infection last Dec., which led to joint pain, I have finally been diagnosed with erosive rheumatoid arthritis. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I have been on mtx for 10 years now with the only side effect being some thinning of hair on top, not that I'm crazy about that but a small price to pay. Good luck in whatever you choose. in PA [ ] newly diagnosed I am 40-years-old and after a strep infection last Dec., which led to joint pain, I have finally been diagnosed with erosive rheumatoid arthritis.
