Not a dumb question.....Methotrexate is metabolized through the liver and

you cannot drink alcohol while taking it.

Hi there,

That would be a no. Blood tests need to be done every 8 weeks to check

liver enzymes.

No alcohol. There goes that nice glass of Pinot Grigio Ecco Domani over ice

I used to like once in a while.

With my doctor's knowledge and permission I have one coctail about every 2

weeks. I 'm on three mtx tabs a week, have been doing this for some time now,

my liver numbers are always in order. When I was first diagnosed ten years ago

I stayed off completely but about 7 years ago I just about had it, discussed it

with my doc and he was okay with it as long as I stay in line, which I have.

Sometimes I go a month or more without, depending on the occasion. You do need

to discuss this with your doctor, everyone is different. I personally know 2

other people who do the same thing but you must discuss it first with your

doctor. Just my 2 cents.

When I first started I didn't drink at all because the Rheumatologist said

alcohol was bad. Now I have two or three glasses a week, in moderation and I

haven't noticed any effects.

My rheumy allowed me to have one low-alcohol (no hard liquor shots) drink per

month. We go out to eat once a month so I would order a frozen margarita and ask

them to go light on the alcohol. It's up to your Dr. though.
