Hello Everyone:

This evening I recieved word that my SSDI claim has been approved. As

you all know, this is a huge step towards establishing a stable

environment in which to deal with all that Rheumatoid Arthritis puts

on us. I just wanted to thank everyone who posted their opinions and

gave me specific guidance with all of the who, what, how, and

where's. I believe that advice had an enormous impact on how

efficiently I was able to file the claim and how quickly it was

approved. Months ago many of you informed me to file immediately, do

it now! Well, given my age and the progression of my condition that

was good advice too, and I am glad I listened. When I first contacted

this Group I was in a state of shock, disbelief, and denial that I

had Rheumatoid Arthritis, and that I was going to have it for the

rest of my life. Everyone helped (and continues to help) with that as

well. So thank you everyone.

Now that's your Kodak moment, better appreciate it 'cause it probably

won't happen again. I just can't be that serious!

Stan,

CONGRATS on your approval!!!! While it is bittersweet that this horrible disease

has lead you to do file for SSDI, I hope that your approval serves as some sort

ov " validation " for you and allows you to move on to the next chapter in your

life effortlessly.

Congratulations, Stan! Going through the whole SSD process can and is

daunting. I have been waiting for a hearing date since September 2007.

Initially they told me 12-18 months for a hearing date. Now, because

of the backlog, they are saying 18-24 months! It is so frustrating

because alot of the potential treatments for RA are on hold because I

can't afford them and I have no insurance.

I just wondered how old you are? From what I understand, if you are

over 50, you are considered " un(re)trainable " and the process goes a

lot quicker.

Hi and thanks...

Bittersweet is a word I think a lot of us with our condition have to learn to

add to our vocabulary. Last night someone told me I was lucky, as though I'd won

the lottery or something, and completely clueless about Rhuematoid Arthritus and

its ramifications on our daily lives. Excluding my children, I would literally

do or trade anything not to have RA, I'd be willing to start over from scratch

with abosultely nothing in the middle of Bhopal, India not to have RA. As most

of you know, it would be a DEAL! But I do apprciate and feel grateful that I was

approved so quickly, it means I can keep on keeping on keeping on.

Thanks, being in the UK I'm assuming your medical requirements are covered from

what I've seen on the television. Part of the SSDI is the medical coverage and

for those of us in th U.S. it's huge. So I have to admit these a lot less stress

once approved.

Well, Thank God for the Grace of God! lololol...You're funny. As far

as the age thing and SSD, my attorney told me about the 50+ age

bracket. It almost seems as if they must be thinking that because I am

only 47, it would be better to spend money to " re-train " me for a job

that I will never be able to hold down (because of this disease) for

the next three years until I meet their " age criteria " .

The 12-18-24 month wait for a hearing date is in addition to the 18

months (+/-) that it took to go through the first two processes and

denials - which I've been told is also " normal " . Seems like a HUGE

waste of money to me, IMHO. They've been jerking me around for almost

three years now. There's got to be a better way.

Tomorrow I am scheduled for another MRI on my lower back to try and

find out what is causing my major low back pain that keeps me laying

down in bed more than I am able to be up (as if all the joint pain

wasn't enough). Showering, folding laundry and/or cooking dinner has

become more than I can handle - housecleaning has already been turned

over 90% to my 15-year old. I just don't know how much more I can

take. Something's just gotta give.

Sorry to turn this into a gripe, Stan. I am truly happy for your

timely approval.....Doreen :)
