Guest guest
Carolyn..I had a rheumatologist who told me that jra is passed through families..it can go back generations..therefore it can skip generations..on my dads side..i was told that there was someone in the family who had jra as a child and grew into adulthood with it..the person passed away and i don't know if jra had anything to do with it though..never was told..I don't wonder anymore with Tabs arthritis.i figure it is here so I deal with it..as we all do.. Now my 15yr old son has informed me that his one knee has been bothering him for 2 weeks..he has had pain in his legs..but i always thought growing pains..Tabs rheumy told me to take him to a doctor and get it xrayed..if i can't then the next time he sees Tab..he will look at my son for me..he is a great rheumy! I don't think it is jra..but i rather be safe than sorry..never know about arthur..lol! (tab17..poly) From: cybersis40@... I am very courious as to the course JRA is taking. In my family as far back as my Mom knows there was no family history on either my father's side or hers. My oldest brother 55, has a psorasis form of a auto-immune difficiencey, my next brother 52, has had Ulcerative colitis since a teenager , another form of auto-immune disease. My sister 48, well lets just say no brains period and lets just leave it at that! LOL ! Then I come along with JRA from very early on. I am now 42. I am wondering if JRA skips generations, if so, how many? as my teenagers are ok for now. I thank you for your input to my own mystery. Hope you all have a great Limber day! Guest guest
There is a mom on this list whos kids where both diagnosed at 2 or 3.Her daughter is poly, and her son is systemic, she is still on it,but you dont hear from her often. She e-mailed me directly when I was questioning Remicade.Going back to one auto immune disease can lead to another her son also has crohns disease.Mom, if your reading this I hope he is still responding to the remicade, and I hope your daughter is still in the medicated remmission. Guest guest
Hello Carolyn Goedike! mom to Dylan (almost 4) My doctors have all frowned of bone crackers! My rheumy nearly hit the calling once when I suggested it many years ago, when I still had flexibility in my lower back. But now I wonder if I had started that type of treatment, would my back be so rigid today!? The big problem is most Insurances don't pay for chiropractors, so it becomes an out of pocket expense. Guest guest
Carolyn..when Tabithas first rheumy turned out to not be a good one..I did take her to a chiropractor which i didn't stick to..this one wanted to do the herbal medicines(which i am not downing) and start her own his own ideas on how to treat her..I then found another rheumy who was terrific, who is now teaching. Anyways, I feel that a dr. who specializes in this field would be better to treat your daughter..but that is my opinion..I would seriously think about it before trying it. karen(tab17..poly) From: Carolyn Goedike <dylansmommy42298@...> Reply- Subject: Question For The Group Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 23:12:07 -0700 (PDT) Hello Everyone, Has anyone ever been to a chiropractor to help with JRA? Guest guest
Interestingly enough it was my chiropractor who told me to take my daughter to the doctor for her swollen knee. He took an xray and told me it needed medical help. There should be no adjusting on an arthritic joint, it could cause damage or increase inflamation. Good luck SHU
Guest guest
HBOT was what stopped my daughter's tremors. She was having them every 30 seconds. After 75 treatments of HBOT, the tremors stopped, but she then had " twitches " at bedtime or when she closed her eyes. These twitches often turned into myoclonic jerks, which could turn into generalized tonic clonic sz, but they have gotten weaker over time. Ellen [ ] Question for the group > My son is almost 3 years post brain-injury due to a car accident. He was in a coma for 4 months. He is currently receiving HBOT (When completed Mid Sept. He will have had 100 sessions) My question to the group is, has severe cerebella (sp?) tremors. We went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN and they suggested the deep thalamus brain stimulator. Second opinion from University of Mn, he is not a candidate for the surgery. We are not in favor of surgery, and Parkinson's meds were horrible. Have any of you heard of anyone suffering from severe tremors and if so, are there any therapies you may suggest? Currently is completely off of all meds ( YEA!) and we would like to keep him off, but his life would be so much better without the tremors and he could achieve his independence which he so desires!! > > >
Guest guest
While there are no guarantees, I would suggest brain re-mapping, also known as patterning, as an option for to try to attempt to gain control of these tremors. I have seen great successes with re-mapping, not specifically with tremors, but I believe it could help him. Dr. Cheryl Bruce, MD The Center For Exceptional Children and Families, Inc. P.O. Guest guest
Hi Everybody, As I mentioned, I live in a part of Italy that is particularly foggy and damp. Also, we have had an exceptionally wet and rainy summer - and for the past month I have been having trouble with my neck (I am fused from T3 or 4 to the sacrum) - pain and stiffness there and in the shoulders radiating down my left arm. I wake up at night with the last two fingers of my left hand tingling - a very unpleasant sensation. Many years ago I had similar symptoms and was diagnosed with a hearniated cervical disk (clinically and with a CT and electromyogram) - so I suppose that's the problem again. One neurosurgeon thought it should be removed and another said to wait it out that often these things resolve by themselves - I chose to wait it out and it did get better. But now it's back again and not much fun. Have any of you had similar problems? Do you think I should chalk the situation up to the bad weather? If you have had this problem, what have you done about it? Are there any " soft " remedies, or tricks that have given you relief? I am so sick of seeing doctors.... just don't want to bother unless it gets really unbearable. About the only thing that gives me pain relief is lying flat on my back with no pillow - but I still have the tingling. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. All the best to Everybody, from Italy
Guest guest
, I am 21 months postop T2-S1. I have similar symptoms, only on the right side. So far as I know, I have no cervical disc disorders. I can never sleep with a pillow anymore, and develop headaches every single night, relieved by getting out of bed. My neurosurgeon cannot find the cause. He keeps prescribing physical therapy, which I usually refuse after two unsuccessful rounds. Sometimes, a small fiber filled pillow under my neck helps relieve the symptoms. I try to stay away from narcotics, and find Aleve (an over the counter antiinflammatory) helps. But there are those damp, low barometric pressure days when Vicodin is my only friend. Good luck. Let us know if you find a solution. Guest guest
... You might want to try different pillows to see if you can alleviate your symptoms. I've really helped my neck problems by using a Tempur-Pedic pillow. A salesperson in the store where I bought mine, suggested that I use an XL since my neck is relatively long. It took me a few days to get used to it, but I really love it. You can see the pillow I'm talking about at: http://www.tempurpedic.com/shop_swedish_neck_pillows.asp Good luck! Guest guest
Dear , I am writing this to the whole group as it may be relevant - thank you so much for your quick reply and information about the tempurpedic pillow. I used the address you gave me and got a message that it has been changed to www.tempurworld.com - I don't know if this is because I was writing from Italy or if the address has changed for everybody throughout the world. Just thought you'd want to know. I am contacting the Milan store. Thanks again! Best wishes,

Guest guest
In a way, the center is correct in stating the chemical imbalances are treated. The thing that rocks me the most about your statement is elevated copper. This is seen across the board in autistic children. I would venture to guess that your also have high IRON LEVELS, which makes seizures exasterbate as well. It also appears that you may be wasting zinc? Was this a hair test? HAve you done a challenge mercury dump, becuase my autistic children had no mercury either, but only AFTER challanges they were off the chart. Mercury binds to neural tissue and often does not leave a signiature of poisining, unless you look at least four elemental levels that are off, this is the signiature that it skewed the result. Kathy [ ] Question for the Group > Hi All, > I recently got back the results of my sons testing from the Pfeiffer Treatment Center. there were quite a number of surprises for me. Mainly that his mercury levels were practically non-existent. He did have what Pfeiffer considers an elevated copper serum level even though it was within range for most medical standards ( just high end - as was his lead level which was 6) .. He had very high levels of Antimony, Tin, and Titanium, and Zinc as well as elevated though not too high Aluminum. Does anyone believe that getting these metal and element numbers lowered will help reduce his absence seizures ? He does not seem to have a focal area for his seizures so I have suspected they were chemically related yet I was thinking mercury all along. The Treatment Center will not really give me a straight answer regarding seizures as they keep repeated they do not treat seizures - only chemical imbalances. I will anxiously be awaiting your responses. > > Thanks in advance. > M > > >
Guest guest
Kathy, The Copper level was only high in the serum test not the hair test. The iron level was not elevated in the hair test or blood. I do not know what a challenge mercury dump is ? Could you tell me how they do this. I know they are wanting to do a stool sample but everytime I take him off his probiotics to do the testing his behavior gets so bad that we have not been able to complete the testing. Thanks,

Guest guest
is 10 years old and was on the diet from age 5 1/2 - almost 8. After the first 6 - 9 months on the diet he had periods of vomiting that we could never figure out, that would last hours or a few days and then disappear. We would tweak his ratio's, change creams or other food items, but it would go away and then return for no reason. His labs were never abnormal enough for the doctors to be concerned with, they always felt they were ok. By the end of the diet he would hardly eat anything, every meal was a fight, had lost weight and they feared he was becoming anorexic from it. His appetite has never been the same and he can no longer eat anything with sugar in it, without having a seizure within a few hours. This past January he was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder, Glutaric Aciduria type II. The vomiting he experienced may be related to this condition. While on the diet he was on Depakote, Zonegran, Klonopin & Clobazam (at different times over those 2+ years, not all at the same time). He is now on Lamictal and Topamax, with the Topamax being #1 to wean off of next due to loss of speech and weight loss. He also currently takes Carnitor, B2 and Vit E. Since starting the Carnitor & Lamictal, his energy, balance, responses and thinking has improved dramatically, but we will have to see what returns for him after weaning the Topamax. I don't know if any of this helps your situation, but I wanted to share it with you in case it helps. Jill F.
