This is from the LDN website regarding Parkinson's Disease:

Parkinson's Disease

As of September 2003, Dr. Bihari reported that there were seven

patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) in his practice, all of whom

have shown no progression since beginning LDN. Indeed, two of them

have shown clear evidence of improvement in signs and symptoms.

Two people with PD, the first patients with that disorder known to

have been treated with LDN, have had good results that persist after

more than two years on LDN. One patient, a man in his mid-60's from

New Jersey, had his first annual revisit to Dr. Bihari for a check-up

in April 2002. His wife reported that, in contrast to all the other

members of his PD monthly group meeting, he seemed to have shown no

deterioration in his functional abilities throughout the prior year.

On a thorough neurological examination, Dr. Bihari found improvement

in some signs of his Parkinson's Disease. Among these was now the

absence of the glabellar sign, a primitive reflex that is

consistently found in those with PD and which the patient had

demonstrated the year before on his initial examination.

Another patient with PD is a 48-year-old male who began LDN in

December 2000. Because he was seeing no improvement in his condition

(although he wasn't getting any worse), he discontinued LDN in early

March 2002. He called Bihari in mid-May 2002 because he was now

beginning to see, for the first time in over a year, worsening of his

PD symptoms. In those three months, the disease manifested increased

tremor and rigidity in the involved arm. He resumed LDN and over the

following two months experienced reversal of the progression that had

occurred off of the drug. He was also able to reduce his dopamine-

analogue medication by two-thirds, relieving the depression that it

was producing.

As of September 2003:

Parkinson's Disease. As reported earlier on this page (in May 2003

and twice in 2002), Dr. Bihari has been treating patients with PD.

Parkinson's Disease is generally characterized by an inexorably

progressive course. Bihari now reports that there are seven patients

with the disease in his practice, all of whom have shown no

progression since beginning LDN. Indeed, two of them have shown clear

evidence of improvement in signs and symptoms.

As of May 2003:

Parkinson's Disease. As reported earlier on this page (June 2002 and

September 2002), Dr. Bihari has two male patients with PD, both of

whom are doing well on LDN. He notes that both patients have remained

stable with no further progression in their disease over the past

year. In addition, Bihari now reports a female patient who suffered

from multiple autoimmune problems, including rheumatoid arthritis and

severe fibromyalgia, who had been wheelchair-bound for the past 18

years. In addition to her other diseases, this patient had a

Parkinson's problem, with rigidity and tremor, most noticeable in her

arms and hands. Within two months of her recently starting LDN, all

of her symptoms and signs & #151;including all signs of her

Parkinson's & #151;subsided and she was able to walk with a cane for the

first time in almost two decades.

Parkinson's Disease. In the June 2002 Latest News (Autoimmune

Disease) we described a 48-year-old man with PD who had stopped

LDN " because he was seeing no improvement in his condition... " In the

following three months, the disease showed its first progression in

nearly two years with increased tremor and rigidity in the involved

arm. He resumed LDN and over the following two months experienced

reversal of the progression that had occurred off of the drug. He was

also able to reduce his dopamine-analogue medication by two-thirds,

relieving the depression that it was producing.

During an oncology appt. today I told my doc about the gastro approving me for LDN and suggested he get monitor my thyroid along with SBC and ferritin levels. It kind of freaked me when he came back and said that alcohol would cause sickness same as hard drugs with LDN. I told him I didn’t think that to be true as I’d not found anything referencing that in my study of the drug. So my question to the group is, is he correct in that alcohol and LDN do not mix? I am not a big drinker but I do like a couple of beers or a couple of glasses of wine over the course of a weekend. I DO NOT want to do anything that will make me violently ill and I know taking any kind of opiate or depressant drug with LDN will do so. As and aferthought although I don’t smoke pot I wonder if it reacts negatively with LDN. Just curious...

I don’t have my prescription as of yet so I don’t have that form telling the pros and cons with it to look at.

Shouldn't be a problem, unless you go on a drinking binge.

Remember, everything in moderation.

Alcohol is not a problem (nothing out of the " normal " anyway). You

will not become violently ill....

I drink much too much for my own good (every night) but I have not

experienced any " reaction " or complication of any kind mixing alcohol

and LDN.

Like Art said, " ....moderation.... "

I bet your " date " would not want you to " fall out " either! LOL!

Best of luck to you,

Thanks Patti...LOL Hey...just about anything beats, “Hey, I’ll be right back” and then coming

back to the table to say, “I’m sorry I’ll be right back” over and over and over again. By then

they think your snorting coke in the restroom or seeing another gal somewhere else in the

restaurant or bar. LOL I cannot wait to get my LDN....

He probably looked up the regular dosage of Naltraxone.

Sure, Aletha, because full dose Naltrexone, from 50 mg a day, or even more than that will block the alcohol that the person has been drinking.

While on only 4.5 mg this is not the case. Yesterday I had a bottle of a pricy, delicious red wine, all by my self, have never been drinking more than half than that, and - had no problems even with so much. But I wouldn't dare to drink more.....:-)

[low dose naltrexone] Question for the group

--- Hi We have just started LDN for my son with UC. He is 13 and 83

pounds. The doc started us at 3 mg which has been going well for the

past 4 days (no sleep effects). I am wondering when and if we should

go up to 4.5mg. The doc is not really experienced in treating kids and

seemed to think 4.5mg was "an adult dose". However he is on all adult

doses for all the other horrible meds he is on. I wonder how I will

know if this dose is not enough without him going into a flare... The

question is should I keep him on 3mg/ or so up to 4.5 and in how many

days? I am also weaning him off pred -- he is at 5mg and soon he will

go down to 2.5mg for a few days then off. I am hoping the LDN will

kick in and allow him to wean off the pred and be done with it . In

the past he has flared as he trys to come off pred. I would appreciate

some feedback on this issue. Thanks you everyone's help this list is

great! Judy

I would think a 13 year old child weighing only 83 pounds should not

be on any more than 3mgs, possibly less. More is not necessarily

better.

This would be a good question for Dr. McCandless.

Hi,

I am not sure if I would give the same advice as Art.

If 3.0 mg is just too little to help him, I would consider 1.5 mg more, due to that this medication is so mild and is not giving any serious side effects. We have to think of what the alternative is. The boy would need strong medication with severe side effects. Dr. McCandless gives 3 mg transdermal cream to 2 years old kids. I guess they weighing less than 83 pounds. But of course, if Dr. McCandless could respond to this post, it would be the best.

I'm sure the hospital will give her washing instructions. She likely won't

be able to wash her hair for about 7-10 days. When she can wash her hair,

she should probably use baby shampoo in case it gets in her eyes.

Question for the group

Hello everyone,

My friend is going to have an anterior cervical fusion, C5/6 & 6/7,

done tomorrow morning. She's been fitted for a halo although the

doctor didn't say 100% that she'd be in it after surgery, he said

maybe she'd be in a brace. My gut tells me she'll be in that halo or

they wouldn't have gone through all the trouble of fitting her with

the molded body part of it. She has had a very difficult time with

wearing her miami j collar with the body extention part on it, she has

claustrophobia in it and becomes very anxious.

I've been working on a check list for her of things to do today,

things to buy to have at the hospital with her and what she'll need

once she gets home. She's such a sweet girl, I hate to see her go

through this and she's young too, too young to have so many troubles!

I didn't have a halo after my sugery. Is there any special care that is

needed for the halo? Anything that she'll be needing to have on hand

for this for cleaning the spots where it connects to the head?

One thing that hadn't occured to me....how do you wash your hair like

this? And shower? If hair is long, how do you brush it even?

If anybody has any info for me that can help me help her it would be

greatly apprecitated! Please let me know, I'm working on her list now.

Thanks a Bunch!!

Debbie

You're not alone, Alice.

This is from this morning:

We're aware of the problem with delayed messages affecting some messages

Hey - you're not weird :) I used to have the same problems. In my case it

was Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I would suggest trying some of those OTC wrist

splints to wear while you're sleeping to see if that helps to ease the pain in

your wrists and hands. You might need to see an Orthopaedic about that, too. I

had surgery on both hands for Carpal Tunnel - they made a small incision in the

folds of my wrist and you can't even see the scars now unless I point them out.

It was an easy procedure and I recovered quickly and have no more pain like

that. Hope this helps. Keep us posted.....Doreen :)

Hey everyone!

Well, I always seem to get these weird symptoms and I don't know if this is RA

or not --- as I don't see my new RA Doc for 2 more weeks.  I wake up in the

middle of the night and sometimes, my hand will be numb (although I do sleep on

my sides, it's never the side I was sleeping on) . Sometimes with or without

THAT symptom, I will have sudden and very excruciating pain in my wrists &

hands. Almost as if someone just took a baseball bat and crushed my hands. There

is nothing under the sun except for a percocet that works for it and even that

only makes it a bit more tolerable. The pain can last anywhere from 10

loooooonnnnggg minutes or 2-3 hours.

My old RA doc acted like the pain was RA and only nodded his head about the

numbness in my hands.  Funny thing though, after my infusions of Rituxan - I

have not had that pain for about a year until the wee hours of this morning. I

don't think I can recall ever being in that much pain.

Does anyone else ever have this or I am just weird? (hehehe)

Thanks for any help you can offer~~

No you are not weird as I can tell from your post, but the same thing

happens to me. But not the tingling. I wake up sometimes and my wrists and

ankles I can't seem to stand the pain. My hip joints do the same thing when I

lay down and sleep for a while. But my knees I have to have something between

them for elevation and that helps. Every time I mention things like this

to my RA Dr. he says that's just the Rheumatoid. Then he suggests a new med

or something stronger for pain.

definitely going to mention it to my new doc next week. Thank you again!
