You can get topical creams for the outside as well as pessaries for internal

infection. If you want to use natural remedies then natural, live yoghurt

applied on a tampon should help.Bathing with a mix of vinegar and water also

helps some people. Use 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water.

Thrush is caused by Candida so cut out any sugary foods that you take. Iron your

knickers. I know that it sounds silly but most washes aren't hot enough to kill

it so ironing your underwear, especially if you steam iron, will help. Steer

clear of nylon knickers. Try not to wear trousers/ jeans too often but

especially when you are infected. No pantyhose either. Use stockings or hold

ups.

Don't forget that your partner may be infected too so they should be treated at

the same time.

Hope that this helps.

Today I called my PCP and told her that I still had the vaginal

infection. I told her that I thought it was a yeast infection, even

though the culture did not show yeast. I pointed out that the

infection did get better after using Monistat and taking Diflucan. I

told her that candiasis was one of the side effects of Enbrel, and

that I would like to try something stronger than the OTC Monistat that

I had already used, something like Terconazole.

So what did she do? She called in a prescription for Metronidazole

Vaginal, which is for antibiotic infections! And of course one side

effect of that is a yeast infection!

So what should I do? I'm going on a bus trip tomorrow, and I certainly

don't want to make the situation worse than it already is.

Advice needed!

You are misinformed. Metrogel (brand name) is for bacterial infections for the

vaginal area.

You really need to see a GYN if you want this taken care of properly.

Thanks, Lesley. I used Monistat and took Diflucan and acidophilus

tablets. I've smeared yogurt on the area and swabbed it with vinegar.

If this had been a bacterial infection, I don't see how this treatment

could have made it get better.

Of course I meant bacterial infections, not antibiotic infections. The

first time I had a yeast infection, the doctor prescribed something

for a bacterial infection, thinking that this was what I had. Killing

off the bacteria allowed the yeast to really flourish! That's what

will happen now if I use the Metronidazole, and and it turns out that

it is a yeast infection. I'm not going to risk it tonight, since I

have that bus trip tomorrow.

After that, I guess I'll try the Metronidazole and see what happens. I

certainly may need to see a GYN, but I don't have one. My PCP serves

as my GYN, too. I will find one if I have to, though.

Hi Sue: I am so happy for you that you are over that horrible

infection. Hope it stays away forever.

You must be so happy to finally feel good. Rest, and take good care of

yourself.

Hugs,

Thanks, Kate. I took Ambian on the worst nights; otherwise, I would

not have gotten any sleep.

Thanks, Barbara. I am happy that it's over. The next time I have an

infection, I won't know which kind I have. The culture takes too long;

you could itch to death before it comes back, LOL.

I am just soooooo happy you are feeling BETTER!

[ ] Vaginal Infection

It is obvious that my PCP was right about my recent vaginal infection,

and I was wrong. I'm sorry I doubted her. I was so sure that it was a

yeast infection, even though the culture indicated a strep B

infection. One reason I thought that was that I could not find any

information online about any symptoms suffered with a strep B

infection. The articles I found just indicated that the infection was

a great danger to a baby if the mother had it while giving birth.

Another reason was that the symptoms were the same as those of the

yeast infections I had had in the past. Besides, the infection did get

better with the use of Monistat and Diflucan.

But I have been using the Metronidazole cream that she prescribed, and

after the last application last night, the infection is gone. I have

not developed a secondary yeast infection, perhaps because I've been

eating yogurt and taking acidophilus tablets.

So I am not afraid of admitting that I was wrong.
