Guest guest
The fact about less harm to your liver is FALSE. It is no different than oral MTX and you must have bloowrok done every 4 weeks to monitor. I took MTX orally and I had horrible side effects. My daughter injects and so far, so good. The only side effect she has is fatigue the day after. *~ Kami ~* [ ] MTX Question Hi All, I was told that injecting MTX is better than taking it orally since injecting it makes side effects, including harming your liver, less likely. Anyone have any knowledge about this? Best to everyone, Ira
Guest guest
Hi Ira: The diff. between the pills and injection form of MTX is that the injection is easier on your stomach. Very little, if any, nausea. As far as the Liver goes, they both can cause liver problems. MTX is a caustic chemotherapy drug. That is why I have my blood tested each month. Your Rheumy can see if it is causing any harm to it. Hope you are doing good. Guest guest
The difference is that with injections your stomach doesn't have to digest the mtx, making it easier for some to tolerate. When you take it orally it has to go through your digestive systems, which for some is pretty rough. I found injections easier to tolerate. > > The fact about less harm to your liver is FALSE. Guest guest
You may or may not experience less side effects, but any side effects for the liver, etc. would be the same. My side effects would hit harder but stay shorter and the medication seemed to be more potent for me in injectible form. I finally gave up on it last month and am now trying Arava. I just couldn't tolerate the side effects even though it did help keep the joints from deforming. Guest guest
I'm going to see my Rheumy tomorrow and need some info or advice. While I was in radiation treatment I had to stop my MTX and now am cleared to start it again. Now that I've taken 2 shots, I'm hurting all over like I did with the Humira, a really bad flare. Is it possible that restarting the MTX has done this to me? Taking only Prednisone, I didn't have much activity, so I'm assuming the problem is from the MTX. Am I off base or what?? Guest guest
Dennis, maybe it was just a coincidence; maybe it was just time for you to have a flare. If you didn't have one all during your radiation treatments, that is really a miracle! Then it would be time to have a flare. See what your rheumy has to say about it. I'm sorry that I can't be much help, but I can offer you empathy and positive thoughts. RA is just full of surprises. Guest guest
Hi Dennis - I'm sorry you are having such a tough time of things with your RA again. I'm not sure about your question regarding the MTX, but I would be interested to hear what your Rheumy had to say about it. Is it possible that the Radiation is out of your body just enough to cause a flare? Have you lowered your dosage of prednisone recently? Please take care. Praying all is well with Betty. Good to hear from you again. Let us know how your Rheumy appointment goes...
