Guest guest
I dont necessarily fall a lot but I do tend to be a lot clumsier, or maybe its that before I had RA if I whacked my hand on a door frame, it would stop bothering me in a few minutes but now it hurts for 3 days. I tend to drop stuff a lot too. I noticed you said Fair Oaks, is that in VA? I live in VA and there is a Fair Oaks right near us! (you dont have to answer if you dont want, I was just curious Kim ________________________________ From: jvanvelsor <jvanvelsor@...> Sent: Wed, January 27, 2010 12:38:35 PM Subject: [ ] question about falling  I have been having trouble with falling over the past year; 7 or 8 falls in the past year, and 4 broken bones in the past 3 months (3 ribs, one foot). It is getting really old. I've never been particularly graceful, but this is unusual. Is this common with RA, or a possible result of medications? I have osteoporosis so bones break easier than usual, but the falling is something I need to do something about. I take Norco, Methotrexate, Pacqueniel, Humira and Celebrex, without solving the RA problem so far sadly. Best wishes Joan in Fair Oaks
Guest guest
2 days ago I fell letting the dog outside. I took the step down and my left leg just went from under me. I have fallen several times in the last 3 yrs. and have hurt myself a couple of times pretty bad requiring ER attention. Broke toes and displaced knee cap, fractured my finger 2 days ago and using my cane is something that my doctor has told me to do, but I feel it makes me look too old and frankly I am embarrassed to use it when I am out in public. I do use it at home. Please be careful for I have a calcium problem and breaking major bones like a leg or arm has not happened to me but small fractures hurt just as bad. Guest guest
Hi Irish:     Sorry to read about your falls, especially the last one. Do you think you fell because of your knee giving out? That is what happened to me the day before I had my total knee replacement. I was just standing on the Lanai, when my knee collapsed and down I went. Trip to the ER and had 10 stitches in my shin.     When I fell 1 1/2 years ago, it was due to my RA flaring, hitting my feet and ankles the worst, and when I was going down the brick steps, my feet failed and down I went. I shattered my left shoulder, and broke my left foot. I fell 2 years before that while getting off a step stool, breaking my hip, and then having a total replacement.     All my falls have been due to my feet and ankles which have been hit the hardest with RA. I do use a cane or walker when my feet are really bad. I have been in a medicine induced remission for the last 1 1/2 years, and my feet are great. Since having my both knees replaced, they are fine and strong. I pray to God my falling days are over!!     I so pray you too do not fall again. It is very scarey to fall. I hope you will feel better and better with each passing day. I also wish you many pain free days ahead.  Hugs,  Barbara From: iafowl31260@... <iafowl31260@...> Subject: Re: [ ] question about falling Date: Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 10:02 PM  2 days ago I fell letting the dog outside. Guest guest
I think my knee giving out was the problem. It is weak. Today being damp and cold has me aching from head to toe. My body fro some reason do not absorb the meds as it should and my RA doctor has upped my meds and I start Rituxin again in a few weeks. Thanks for the reply.
