Guest guest
Hi Jen.  I have been on daily Placquenil for over 5 years now, and have no issues with it. I did have to have my eyes checked with my Opthamologist before starting the Placquenil. My eyes checked out fine before and always afterwards.  I wish you good luck with it.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Jen <singlemomx2@...> Subject: [ ] Starting RA Meds Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 10:41 AM  My rheumatologist has determined that he believes me to have RA even though my RA factor is still 0. He started me on sulfasalazine initially, but by the second pill I was having a bad allergic reaction. So now I'm to start on Plaquenil but I'm taking the pharmacists recommendation of waiting until my children aren't sick with the flu since it will affect my immune system. I'm always nervous starting a new drug for any condition because I am so drug sensitive. Has anyone else had any experience with Plaquenil they can share? Jen (singlemomx2@...) Guest guest
Hi Jen.  Yes you need to ask your Rheumy. She is the one that told me about the eye checkup. I guess Placquenil can cause eye issues. Before I started on the Placquenil, I went to my eye surgeon. He checks me every six months and eveerything has been fine. It just pays to stay on top of things as we just never know what meds will do or not do to us.  So far all of my RA drugs I take work well for me. I only had one reaction and it was to a RX for Neuropathy. My Rheumy gave me another one to try and it works great, and no problems at all with it.  I have been on daily doses of Prendisone for over 6 years now and the only problem I had was I got cataracts in both eyes from it. It is not the same kind of cataracts that the elderly get. I had them removed, one week apart, and it only takes less then a minute for my eye surgeon to remove. I had worn distance glasses for over 50 years, and when he removed them I now have 20/15 and 20/20. No need for distance glasses ever. I just buy reading glasses at the Dollar Tree and that is it. I buy 150 strength. My eyes are perfect and healthy/  I hope my information helps you.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Jen <singlemomx2@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Starting RA Meds Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 2:09 PM  Hi Barbara, My doctor didn't mention having my eyes checked. What is the reason for this, and should I be asking my doctor about this? Guest guest
Hi Jen I take two a day and have nothing bad to say about it. I have tried a couple of others and had a bad reaction. Between the tramadol and plaquenil they are really helping. I have stopped taking the cymbalta so my rheumy might have to adjust my meds a little as it helped with the pain. Hope you find something thatworks. Carol
Guest guest
Thank you everyone for the information! I will be placing a call to my rheumatologist this morning to ask about the eye checkups, since I am due for one anyways, I'm sure it won't hurt! I'll be starting the Plaquenil once my kids are over this flu bug (that just can't happen fast enough I don't want this bug! hehe)...so am really hoping that its going to help my RA. My pain levels have been increasing drastically the last two weeks and I'm finding it harder and harder to get around. So glad to have found this group! Thanks! Jen singlemomx2@...
