I too am sure that the barometic pressure falling affects me a great deal.

I dread any major front coming through. I've mentioned this to a few

doctors and they stare at me blankly and really have nothing to say. Just

wanted you to know that you're not alone on this. Best wishes. Lorraine

Dear Ellen, We have been researching the Hyperbaric Chamber for some time

and have talked to numerous people who have tried it with wonderful results.

Annie will be starting treatments in the Hyperbaric Chamber on Jan. 4th.

Wish us luck! She will be getting two treatments a day for 6 weeks. We

have to stay out of town to do these so during that time we will be away

from the computer but we will up date every one when we can. We aren't

expecting a cure just some relieve. Meg

Hi,

I have noticed the same thing. My mother often asks me if the cold makes me

feel worse. It really doesn't, but the drop in barometric pressure does it

every time!

Hi,

Yes the pressure has been driving me crazy for years, even before Lyme. I have

had arthritis for 25 years. I too dread it when I watch the weather and

front is coming thru. Sometimes if I am really hurting, I will check the

weather and see if that has aggravated the Lyme problem, and it usually has.

Good luck,

Connie

Hi,

For those of you who did indicated a problem when the barometer falls,

do you know why this is? My blood pressure is very low, but I have no

idea if this is why low air pressure wipes me out. . I keep thinking

if I knew what the mechanism is, then I'd know what to do about it.

Any ideas?

Ellen,

I have not had the treatment. I did read liture that said 90% of all lyme

patients after being treated had either no symtoms or less symtoms. Wow I

think they might be own to something.

Take care,

Meg,

I think this might make you feel better. I know Annie is a teen. When I was

first diagnosed I had just turn 16. I was very very sick with Lyme. Spent 1

month in the hospital and missed my jr, and half af my senior year of

highschool. My doctor said that one main reason why I was so sick was because

I got Lyme at the worst possible age. He said teen-age females for some

hormon reason tend to get very sick. He said once they get older (19) they

get much mucfh much better. That's what happen to me. I have a good feeling

about the chamber treatment. I just wanted to tell you that because I don't

want you to think this will go on forever. I know how upset my parents were

and I know you must be feeling the same way. Just keep the faith. When I

turned 19 I was well enpugh to go to community college. The next year I was

well enough to go away to college. Take care,

P.S. I will say a prayer for Annie tonight

that the new treatment will get Annie well

Hi both Connies

It is the wild swings in pressure systems that affect most of us. Here

where we live we seem to be in an area that changes swiftly. For instance,

yesterday we received a cold blast from the north, high winds, low clouds

going one way and high clouds going the other. Actually looked a bit like

tornado weather. Within the hour, the wind went from North to S.E. My

joints went nuts.

Temperature and humidity also seem to affect me somewhat. While spending

the summer of 99 in Mississippi I found that the high heat and humidity

helped rather than hindered me. Then last September in Ocean City, NJ, I

found the humidity just right and could cut back on the Percocet a bit. I

started on Vioxx when in MS so that may have changed the effect somewhat.

I can remember an arthritis " weather report " on the net at one time but

forgot where it was.

Below are some articles about the weather and arthritis pain levels.

Somewhere in our archives we have a paper that was submitted by someone

associated with scientific studies that proved this theory.

Thanks Connie, I think your explanation makes the a lot of sense, it's the

pressure not the weather. The weather channel would then be able to give you a

better idea when you might experience a problems when a sudden pressure drop is

approaching? M.

I'm so glad someone else feels it besides me. I can feel a hurricane coming

from across the Atlantic! I only seem to feel the low pressure changes, not the

highs. In high school my friends called me to ask if it was going to rain

before planning trips to the beach! It was kind of cool back then. It is

definitely not cool now!

Hi Sib,

I'm in the same camp as you. I, too can tell storms coming as if I were a

farmer, but I'm in the Boston area! It became so noticeable to me so long back

that I actually hit the local library to find out how much variation there was

in barometric pressure (where was b.m. the highest in the country) across the

U.S.! Too bad there wan't a chamber to climb in that could elevate barometric

pressure when we needed it!

Oh I soooo dread pressure changes. High going to low is the absolute

worst for me, but so are dramatic changes that happen quickly. I had

such a good week last week since we were in the 40's and sunny all

week. Then we got rain over the weekend and I was miserable.

We have two barometers in the house and I can tell the family what

they're doing w/o looking at them. When our liquid one " blows its

top " I know I'm in for it.

I'm glad it's not just me.

I used to think it was funny when I had a " weather toe " (broken one

at 12 y.o. that would warn me). I agree, now it's not funny to have

an entire " weather body " !!!

Yep - when that storm that spawned the tornado in Arkansas passed

through here Saturday night, I was up all night. We play a game at

our house where I try to guess whether the barometer is falling,

steady, or rising based on whether my pain level is A, B, or C. I'm

almost never wrong! In fact, I'm guessing right now it is rising

because this is what passes for a low pain level for me. I'm popping

back to weather to check...

TaDa! " 29.84 inches and rising " is what says. Man, I'm good!

Thank you so much for the posts on this topic. I couldn't figure out

why I suddenly felt so bad these past few days. I've been hurting so

badly!

This explains it!

Hugs!

A friend of mine who is a sailor used to call me up and ask me if it was a good

or bad day for sailing - that's how good I was, although my rheumy says its all

baloney - ha!

All the doctors say it's baloney, including the internists and

orthopedic surgeons. (Except for the ones that have arthrits

themselves!)

[Editor's Note: Never a truer statement, Sherry. My rheumy has OA so he

definitely gets the weather connection. Here in NY we not only have barometric

pressure changes that can be quite dramatic (and I feel them all), but we also

have four very distinct seasons (very hot summers, cool autumns, very cold

winters and mild springs) and I flare whenever we enter winter and enter summer

because those two swings are so stark compared to the fall and spring changes.

My rheumy said that he can set his clock by my winter and summer flares. Our

bodies are 75% water, so why is it so surprising to some that barometric

pressure changes can cause enormous swings? Kathy F.]

Good morning Betty and group,

Many topics catch my eye this morning, and barometric pressure has

seemed to be important in how I feel although I'm not quite sure how. I

know I feel worse before it rains and better when it does rain. Don't

know why, but there's not much I can do. Cold and snow hurt soooo much.

My most painful season is coming to an end. I feel worse from September

until April, (I live in Michigan) and like you, dread it every year.

Warm air and sunshine make my body and mind happy, so I'm sending some

your way.

Take care,

(musiclvr3237)
