Clora (and all),

I had this surgery 8 years ago, no regrets, best thing I ever did for

myself. Progress is different for everyone. I've done talks for my group about

my

progress and why I needed it, results, etc. I am still invited back to give

that talk once in a while. If anyone wants to email me privately about this

feel free, I don't mind. It's an important decision!

Good luck, Clora.

I think Sue's advice is very good - you might want to join a group to

ask questions and learn from other gastric bypass patients.

hi,

i just had the bypass done in July and so far ive lost almost 90 lbs, things

are going a lot smoothier than in the beginning, but i will say this, i

thought with me losing this weight would help with my RA and it hasnt, right

now

my rheuma doesn't know how to treat me since my insurance is giving us a hard

time about the injections so he put me on prednisone which i think has

slowed my weight loss some, the other problem im having is drinking the protein

drinks, i cant find anything that i can tolerate taste wise, good luck !!!!

For breakfast I have a protein drink that I mix myself. I order

Optimum Nutrition 100% whey powder in 5-pound canisters and mix with

soy milk, water, and ice. I use a hand blender to mix it. I get the

double rich chocolate, and it's delicious. It costs a little over $39

for 5 pounds, but it lasts for months. They do have it in 2-pound

packages for about $20, if you prefer to try it before buying so much.

I have diabetes, and this makes a low-carb meal for me. Here is the

company I order it from:

For protein, try the Balance caramel nut blast protein bars- they taste a lot

like snickers bars, or they do if you've been away from sugar as long as I have

been. I had a gastric bypass (Rouen y procedure) about 4 years ago or so. The

carbs are low enough that it doesn't bother me and I am still extremely

sensitive to carbohydrates, though I know many are not. They also have a good

balance of vitamins and minerals and are easy to take when travelling, etc.

They are cheapest at Target and Wal-Mart, running about $5 for a 6 pack.

Sometimes Sam's Club has them, but the one near me is selling them packaged with

the peanut butter flavor, which I do not like.
