Guest guest
Well all, I have been incarcerated again at our local hospital for the past week. I went in because I could not sit up without assistance in bed and was sleeping all day. The ambulance came and my BP had gone down to 45 palpalable and by the time I got to the ER my HGB was down to 4. My family has been told twice now that people don't usually recover from a Hgb of 4. They started to transfuse me in the ER without typing or crossmatching. One unit went thru my port and then they started an IV with the second unit of blood and then they did it again for a total of 4 units, I think. I have been kept in the ICU and they gave me medication to calm me which gave me total amnesia. The whole week was a nightmare. They gave me a new GI doctor who did an endoscopy. They found an old ulcer, but nothing to account for the current blood loss. Just to make matters worse, my grandchildren have been battling a cold, which Grandma caught and turned into pneumonia. Right now, I am so weak. I saw the nurse practioner at my doctor's offfice and I have tons of follow-up appt with all types of specialists. I see the hematologist tomorrow. All stay well, please. Guest guest
OMG my dear, dear friend. I felt just awful reading your letter and what yoou have been through again. I so hoped that all those emergency room visits and hospital stays were done with and in the past. I feel so bad that you were so very sick again. They really need to find where you are bleeding. I think a Colinoscopy needs to be done so they can scope the enitre intestines. Your blood count was so dangerously low, no wonder you could not sit up in bed and you were so tired you slept all the time. What a nightmare you have been through. I get that pneumonia all the time, then need a blood transfusion. In the 6 years of living here, I have had Pneumonia 3X and a blood transfusion each time. Our immune systems are just shot due to the RA. I wish I lived closer to you. You are always in my thoughts and prayers and I hate that you have to suffer so much like this. How is your sugar, under control? Are you going to see a blood specialist also? What about a gastro Dr.? They all need to find out where you are bleeding, address that issue, and correct it. How do you feel now after all those blood transfusions? Less tired? Do they have you on strong Iron pills and B12? Those Cabana boys need to pay better attention to you, and wait on you hand and foot? Is your daughter still making special drinks each night for you to try? Has she gotten a job yet as a bartender? Does she know how to make a Brown Lady? I had them in Aruba and they are yummy!! I forgot to get the receipe from the bartender at the Marriott. Very, very tasty Debs!!!!!  How are you feeling today ? Are you getting any extra help now? I pray that you get the care you deserve, and that you feel better very soon. I wish I had some answers for you.  You are such a dear sweet girl, and I am so sorry that you have been so sick again. I hope you are resting as much as you can now. Take care, much love comes from me to you Debs. Please keep me posted. I hope your Guardian Angel is near and takes good care of you. Get better soon.  Love and hugs,  Barbara  I                                       Â\                                        Â\                                        Â\                                        Â\                                        Â\                          On Sun, 2/27/11, Badkneesde  bs <BadKneesDebs@...> wrote: From: Badkneesdebs <BadKneesDebs@...> Subject: Re: [ ] It has happened again!......Bled out again. Guest guest
Hi Betty Thank you for your dear prayers. I am still weak and my cough persists, not as bad as it was, but still persists. I see the hematologist on Monday. Hope that he can prescribe an antibiotic and maybe some cough medicine. My blood test will tell the story regarding my blood story. I don't feel very strong, but maybe it is just from being in bed for so long. Again thanks for your prayers, they mean so much to me. Gentle, tender angel prayers ................ Guest guest
My Dear Barbara....... Well, I go to the hematologist on Monday. While I was in the hospital, he was never called as a consultant. They ended up giving me over 4 units of blood. In the ER, they started the first unit of blood in my portacath & they also started a second unit of bloodd in an IV line that they were somehow able to start. After they rehydrated me, my blood count went down again and they started the same procedure that they had just done. During all this I went into respiratory arrest & they had to make a decision as to whether or not they would tube me or not. The one who took it the worse was my youngest daughter (yest, the bartender). She never left my side even in the ICU. The hardest part was when I had that medication that caused me to have amnesia. She thought I had suffered some kind of brain damage from the loss of oxygen. She was just hysterical so she called my oldest daughter who came to the hospital and she calmed her down. I could not remember my name, my birthday, my kids names, my husbands name; as soon as the medication stopped working, I was like myself as so nothing was ever wrong. I was in a fog & hardly remeber anything. One thing I won't forget is the look on my daughter's face in her eyes. I have been fighting these blood loss episodes since I gave birth to Vickie. They did an ediscope this past stay and they found an old healed ulcer. The doctors feel that there is some type of a sore on the back of my small intestine, but no one can find it. They have to find it during the actual active bleeding. Up until then, it is going to be stop and go. I am afraid that I am not going to make it to hospital in time. Well, it is cocktail time here. My daughter is serving Mimosa this evening. Where are those cabana boys!!!! Please stay well and safe, my friend. I will post something as soon as I get home from hematolgoist on Monday. I have to keep on fighting these episodes for my daughters, I love them so much. Gentle, tender angel hugs my dear friend........... Guest guest
Dear Sue..... I am about as fed up as anyone is. This has actually been going off and on since after my first daughter was born & that was many years ago. They feel that there is a bleed in back of the small intestine. They have to find it when it is activevly bleeding. I barely know when I have one of these episodes. Usually I don't even know when I am starting to bleed, there is no pain. Guest guest
My dear friend Debs.  I hope and pray that at your hemotologist appt. he has some answers for you. Also, that he can find your bleeder, repair it so you can move on with your life again. I am sure you are very scared at this point. I would be too. Too much is happening to you. I pray to God your health goes in a better direction, and you feel better and better each day.  I do know how much you love your daughters, and how much they love you too. It is very painful when we see pain, fear and suffering in our childrens eyes. They just want thier mother to feel good, have a life, and a better quality of life for you. I know you feel like you are at the end of your rope with all this, and I can truly understand why. Please draw some more strength from within, and this will carry you forward. These Drs. have got to fix this issue for you. I know by the time you feel sick, it becomes critical for you. I also know each episode if more scarier then the last one. My thoughts and many prayers are with you now, and when you go Monday. I know you want to throw in the towel, but you just can't. Your husband, daughters, family and friends want you well again, and I want that for you too. I do know these last 5 years have been terrible for you. But, thank God, you are still here with us. Just keep fighting and pray your dr. will have a solution for these bleeding issue.  I am instructing the Cabana boys to take better care of you.  More good drinks, nice food, and nice desserts for you. I hope they have you under the grass umbrella in the shade and enjoying your Mimosa drinks that your daughter made for you. Tell them to save a spot for me. I hope they are all good looking too. Are they playing your favorite songs and singing to you too? They better be!!!!!!  Lots of love and hugs from me to you Debs. You are due for better days ahead and better health. God Bless you, my sweet dear friend.....  Hugs,  Barbara From: Badkneesdebs <BadKneesDebs@...> Subject: Re: [ ] It has happened again!......Bled out again. Guest guest
Barbara.....you have no idea how much strength I get from your notes. Your words of encouragement seem to come just at the right time. I saw the hematologist yesterday and my hgb came up a little bit, but no where ehere it needs to be. He gave me an IV of iron and I need to go back in a few weeks for another IV. The doc has absolutely no idea why I have these bleeding episodes. I guess I just have to try to keep tabs on myself and if I feel a little sick.....chances are that I am probably a lot of sick! Right now I am going thru my body peeling all of the skin from the massive blood transfusion. What a mess right now. Having my two grandchildren here 4-5 days a week doesn't help with my exhaustion. My grandson is almost 9 mos old and he has started to pull himself up and try to walk! Once they try to walk, next step is running. Well, most days they are the best medicine. It is just trying to get back to myself that makes it extra hard righht now. The cabana boys are gearing up right now for the " season " . My daughter is also gearing up on her drink making.....so all we need is you here!!!!!! Hurry down Sister! Gentle, tender angel hugs to a special friend!!!!! Love............ Guest guest
Hi Debs.  Gosh, it must be ESP today for I have been thinking of you, and wondering how your Dr. appt. went.  I am happy the numbers are coming up, even if it is slowly. Your IV Iron infusions should start to make you feel better. You are so run down now from everything you have been through. It will take some time for your Iron to work. I know each time I am in the hospital with Pnemonia and anemia,, I feel better when I get my blood transfusions. My PCP also have me on speical Iron pills that I take for a year. He also has my blood tested very often. I never knew when I needed a transfusion or when my blood was low. All this has happened to me since getting diagnosed with RA. In 6 years I have had Pneumonia 4 times, and blood transfusions 3 times. I thought my tiredness was from a very low Hypothyroid condition, along with RA. It took me a long time to bounce back to normal. You have been through much more then me, so it will take time for your body to recover from all that.  I never had that skin peeling and it must be sore as hell. Can you put anything on the area to soothe the new skin? It is so hard to recover when you have serious issues back to back. My heart goes out to you Debs. I thought that after your bad time last year, that things were better for you etc. I was so shocked and deeply saddened with what you have been dealing with, and another serious stay in the hospital. I pray you just focus on getting stronger and better each day.  I do not know how you can manage a very busy 9 mo. old baby that is trying to walk etc. I know I could not do that anymore. I had to come to terms with my RA, and decide what I can do or can't do anymore. I had to give up a lot Debs, but I am so grateful for the things I still can do, even if it is a different way. Plus, learning to pace myself was very difficult, but I do it. I use to do so much in a day, then I would be half dead for 3 days after. I changed that!!!!!  I hope you start to see yourself feeling better with the iron infusions. When is your next appt. with the hemotologist? Do yoou need to get blood tests often? I am sure you are sick of seeing so many drs., taking more pills, etc. But it is worthwhile so we can get better and stronger so we can start to enjoy our lives. I look at all the meds I take, and, sigh, it makes me feel like a failure. But the realistic side of me says I need them to stay alive, feel good and have a life, even if it is a restricted life. Our RA sure is a challenge for us.  I am still in my leg cast, and of course it is the right foot and leg, so I can't drive yet. I have cabin fever badddddd!!!!!!!!! I see my Ortho. Dr. in 2 more weeks, and he will tell me when it can come off. I do take it off at bedtime and it feels so good.  I forgot to tell you before that the Lyrica my Rheumy put me on for the Neuropathy, works wonderful and no more foot pain, no tingeling, and no numbness. I never thought I would see the day that my feet would be pain free etc. My feet have put me through hell for 6 years. I am a new woman!!!!!!! Just old!!!!!!!  Yes, those Cabana boys are taking good care of you. I am happy your daughter is still practicing her bar tender skills of making good drinks for you to sample each day. What a life Debs!!!!!!!! You so deserve it, and with this wonderful weather now, you must feel great! I love this time of year here. Feels good to be alive.  I hope and pray for you Debs that you begin to heal and feel better and better each day. All of your issues have taken its toll on you. I know you will heel, maybe slowly, but you will heel and then your life will be so good. Lots and lots of hugs and love to you from me.  I know it is hard for you to rest with the little ones, but I hope you can as it is so important for your recovery.  When I can drive etc. I will make my way to your side of Florida. Then your daughter can give me yummy samples of her bar tending skills!!!! Oh what joy!!!  May God surround you with His loving arms.  Hugs and love to my sweet friend from your good friend.  Barbara
Guest guest
Hi Sweetie..... Well this is the end of my day.......1:30 am!!!!!!! The kids were here again and the older one is having speech delay problems so I have gone back to my teaching days and it is me, Madyson and Mr Potato Head!!!!She will be 3 in August and doesn't have much to say yet so they send her for speech therapy on Thursday, only SIL picks him up at his regular time. It is a blistering schedule here. I don't think I was this busy when my own kids were little, when I was younger and when I was healthier! Actually I can do the speech therapy in bed and thank goodness my girls really do most of the watching the kids, running after the kids and feeding the kids. You know that none of this would be possible if I still worked. My husband has also been somewhat retired for the last year so he is a big help too. I raised my family to just kinda get the job done and keep family close. OK next, I started to get some more information from my family as to what was going on in the hospital as I don't remember anything of why I went, what they did, what they found and what is coming down the pike for me. Apparently the location of the ulcer was so peculiar that they felt Ikeep having these episodes because the ulcer is lying very close to an artery and that is what hemorrhages when the ulcers get big enough to start to rub against the artery. They apparently feel that they are going to see this during one of these episodes and they can then go in and operate to stop it once and for all. Unfortunately, they don't want to subject me to any unnecessary surgery due to other problems I have; respiratory, cardiac, diabetic and who knows what else. This is the story that I have heard mentioned by several drs, but no one ever pursued it any further. I don't know how many more episodes I can stand before my body won't need to worry about unnecessary surgery. Just found this information out from the discharge summary. The new schedule with the hematologist is every 4 weeks NO LONGER. Today I have had a terrible headache and I am terrible dizzy. Starting to get the outside backyard and pool fixed up for summer. Bought a rug for under the dining table. Going to send Ron and for some green plants. They say that the sign of a non depressed person is green healthy plants. I think we should be OK down here from frost. Silly me, of course, it has to be OK, what did I think this was......Chicago!!!!!!! I was wondering how your leg was doing. You know, I lost most of my right leg during the first bout of sepsis and then I decided to have that right leg amputated above the knee to cut down on the number of sepsis bouts that were trapped in the old knee joint. One thing that I never mi drissed or wanted to get a new drivers license. As you know, driving down here is absolutely terrible. I know I have become a nuscance to my family, but I always make sure that there is a free lunch in it for them........Dangle food in front of my family's face and they will follow you anywhere!!!! I gotta get some shut eye before those little kids come back again! I love you Sweetie and look forward to you and me on my back patio!!!! Gentle, tender angel hugs for heeled bones. Love ya.................... Debs in FL Re: [ ] It has happened again!......Bled out again. Hi Debs. Gosh, it must be ESP today for I have been thinking of you, and wondering how your Dr. appt. went.
