Ros,

Although minocycline is a useful DMARD for RA and it is also possible

that infection could play a role in the etiology of RA, I don't

believe there is much current research which supports Brown's theory.

Hi ,

Yes, there isn't much evidence out there. That's why I say it's a

theory. But it is interesting to me that many people who take many

different kinds of antibiotics for other reasons have periods of no

pain for the duration of the medication. That's just anecdotal from

people on the lists - some of them decided to use mino or doxycycline

after they saw the effect of the other antibiotics on their disease.

I'd love to know how they work. My doc says minocin is anti-

inflammatory but if so, it's not terribly effective. It must be

something to do with being a DMARD too. Plaquenil didn't work for me

on its own but I added the minocin and it was brilliant. But had to

stop the plaquenil and the inflammation worsened, though not too

badly. Interesting.

I appreciate all your research . You must enjoy it. I like

research too but not so much on this disease as on other interests so

I'm glad you're doing this one. It's a great service.
