Guest guest
Oh I can remember my biopsio in The Netherlands. No pills to make you calm, no novacain to numb the area just get on the table and they did it. Pffff it really wasn't too too bad but I've felt sharp pains for a really long time after that which was really annoying. It is way better how they do it over here with less pain. Good look. Try to relax and think of something that makes you happy and feel love! Loes _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of jjcathcart Sent: February 13, 2009 11:43 PM Subject: [ ] Biopsy My biopsy was easy too. My doctor first gave me a Valium to keep my calm.....then he gave me a shot of " novacain " to numb the area.....I felt only a bit of pressure as if he was sticking his finger in my side. You have to hold very still and hold your breath.that's it. Quick and easy. Then I had to spend the night in the hospital in case of bleeding.so you are lucky to be able to go home afterwads. And.I had to stay on my side. Next day or two no lifting or anything very p hysical. Just had to take it easy.then back to work on Monday. Good luck.....and relax. Guest guest
yeah im not sure about this,im sure a doctor would disagree, you know how they are...they are trying hard to talk me into a biopsy but im not doing it,unless things would go bad for me... From: Angelo <tommybad238@...> Subject: biopsy Hepatitis C Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 10:29 PM there's always the possibility that the needle hits cancer and cancer cells can in the process escape into the system and metastasize leading to big trouble. slim but possible. it happens with prostate biopsies Can you show me some scientific proof of this happening? This reminds me othe the rumors that go around saying once the cancer cells hit air they multiply rapidly or something like that. maybe I'm wrong. Guest guest
I have had HCV since the early 80's. At 20 + Years I needed to know if cirrhosis is in play So I did a biopsy. Not a big deal at all and I have peace of mind in knowing I don't have Cirrhosis. I feel it's irresponsible NOT to know. Guest guest
There are enzyme tests under study to replace the biopsy but it is still the Gold Standard for diagnosing liver damage. Many drs. are not doing biopsies for genotype 2 and 3 patients; no need, just do the treatment and be done with it. An Ultrasound can detect fatty liver and cancer lesions but it can't pick up cirrhosis as well as a biopsy sample. My surgeon did a laparoscopic proceedure allowing him to look at the surface of my liver and guide the needle to the exact spots he wanted to take the samples from. He took three samples. My recovery time was a little longer, 2 days vs 8 hours, but the diagnosis was very accurate. A person whose strongest risk factor is a blood transfusion has a slightly higher risk of developing cirrhosis earlier than other risk factors as they start with more of the virus. > > > From: Angelo <tommybad238@...> > Subject: biopsy > Hepatitis C > Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 10:29 PM > > > > > > > there's always the possibility that the needle hits cancer and cancer cells > can in the process escape into the system and metastasize leading to big > trouble. slim but possible. it happens with prostate biopsies > > > > Can you show me some scientific proof of this happening? Guest guest
THE DECISION TO DO TREATMENT IS ALWAYS THE PATIENTS!! I did not mean to imply that EVERYONE must do treatment. Check with your local library and find " The Hep C Help Book " by Misha Cohen and Dr. Gish. They compare Traditional Chinese Medicine(TAM) and western treatments. They also dicsuss how TAM will help manage the side effects of the patient who chooses western meds so they can stay on treatment longer. A good diet and a healthy life will increase a persons chance of keeping the virus managable. Misha Cohen, author of " Chicken Soup for Chinese Medicine " , has stated in two conferences I attended that " No herbal treatment will eradicate the hepatitis C vitus " . > > > > > > From: Angelo <tommybad238@ ...> > > Subject: biopsy > > Hepatitis Csupportgr oupgroups (DOT) com > > Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 10:29 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > there's always the possibility that the needle hits cancer and cancer cells > > can in the process escape into the system and metastasize leading to big > > trouble. slim but possible. it happens with prostate biopsies > > > > > > > > Can you show me some scientific proof of this happening? Guest guest
i totally understand and thanks for sharing your knowledge with me i may use it (knowledge) down the road. we have no cure for the common cold (virus)either, just idea's on how to make its side affects less bothersom and i know, the cold doesnt kill ya either. i dont have my genotype, they didnt test for it when they tested my viral load.they said they would check for it at my biopsy appointment, which i never had done. the doc said that type 1 is very common in the u.s. so which means its harder to treat, longer treatment. ive only known about my hep going on 2 months,i'm still absorbing it all.i quit smoking after 37 yrs of puffing and surprisingly enough i havent relapse yet,but hey thanks From: hdhepper1 <grisley6315@...> Subject: Re: biopsy Hepatitis C Date: Sunday, April 5, 2009, 2:04 AM THE DECISION TO DO TREATMENT IS ALWAYS THE PATIENTS!! Guest guest
Hello All, I have been reading this list for quite some time. As you can tell this will be my 1st post I have been afraid to write about my experiences with this disease as it is a?very long drawn out story.?And to me all the hell?i went thru was for nothing. I was diagnosed in 1998 after the birth of my 5th child. When my Dr told me I was speechless, then my next thought were my children, I had 4 vaginal births and 1 c- section. I was just beside myself. So I waited for my loving husband to come home and tell him...Well lets just say when i told him, to put it nicely he?was none to happy and extremley cruel to me. All he said was GREAT you and your ------ up?Past Im getting tested tommorow. I tried to tell him i had already had all 5 kids scheduled to be tested the next day, he could have cared less. Anyway By The Grace of GOD everyone was negative even though i nursed all my kids, and still are N to this day. Well I ended up going to one dr and he immediatly put me on treatment interferon and ribivirin 6 pills a day and 3 shots a week. I stuck it out but started having problems with my blood clotting so i went to a hemotologist at the cancer ctr here. I was diagnosed with Von Willows Brand Disease so a liver biopsy thru the liver couldnt happen. He told me to continue treatment and i did. Awhile later and not hearing anything from this doc in awhile i called him described my feelings and asked him if he could run some blood tests which i thought were routine anyway. Well OMG he melted down on me something about not being kept up to date etc. Anyway he booted me to the curb still doing the treatments he had told me to. I was devastated. So anyway i had decided to find a liver doc on my own in Boston, as im from Plymouth and it wasnt that long of a drive to find out some real answers. Well i did find a great dr that i still respect to the highest today but in the end basically just gave up on me. Becuase of my clotting problem he said i would have to have the biopsy thru my neck....I was petrified. You are only allowed like 9.5 min for your blood to clot and i beleive my last bleedig time test was 17 mins.?Before the biopsy he put me on peg intronA?1 shot a week?and?rebetol...now mind u the 1st dr had me on treatents 15 months before our blowout and i just stopped. now the new doc has me on this other treatment for 10 months. They did the biopsy in my neck and when i went back for the results he plainly told me when he read them he was totally shocked. I am a 47 yr old female yes i did use drugs but from the way it looks i got this disease when i snuck off and got a tatto in 1977. The biopsy showed i had had this for at least 20 to 25 yrs and that was?almost11 years ago when i had the biopsy. Now mind u i dont drink at all and have advanced chirrossis, constant pain, throwing up blah blah blah and can get no relief from it. Sometimes the pain is so bad i cant get out of bed but manage to drag myself around to properley take care of my kids. Mind u in the middle of my 1st treatment hubby of 23 years decided to get a gf and leave us all high and dry...and i mean that literally. Anyway my viral loads r in the 100's of millions, I have genotypes 1a and 1b along with several others believe it or not? Doc told me i had several other strains also.?I went back 2 yrs ago and said to the dr i want to try something new....all he said is r u nuts? I said its my body and i know i can do it but he said no. With all the reading i do i know there is so much more out there that i could try to kick this thing but i cant find ANY dr that will see, talk, or even listen to me. He was convinced that the depression was from the treatments....but as usual didnt listen as no other dr i have found did was i was depressed becuase i was left high and dry with 5 children 4 of them with special needs, no finances becuase he controlled everything. Needless to say the verbal emmotional and physical abuse my ex put upon us all for years. Took?our home car everything.?Anyway i had no choice but to go into a shelter i stayed there 15 months and am now b ack in Plymouth its been such a long road but here i am. I can vividly remember my last visit to the doc in boston. He had a model of a liver and the damages etc. It showed 4 different parts healthy to liver cancer, I asked him well could u at least tell me from the biopsy where i am on that model and he pointed to the 3rd stage...I wanted to cry right there. So over the past almost 11 years i have endured many tests, biopsy, 2 treatments ,1 for 15 months ,and 1 for 10 and im more in the dark about my condition than i was in the beginning.I know the pain i have on a daily basis is almost all the time excruciating...no relief there. I feel as if im just a lost cuase and totally given up on. There is soooooooooo much more to this story but im quite sure u people have heard enough for now. To those that are dealing with this disease thank God you do have someone to lean on..I have my Mom and shes everything to me but even she cant ease my pain or fix it?like i know she would want to. Basically now i just sit here wondering when my time is going to come ..is it going to be painful? all kinds of thoughts....what a way to go thru life. Literrally living in fear and the unknown.?Also along with this wonderful virus, i have rheumatoid and osteo arthiritis and a butt load of other conditions that just keep popping up in testing and the drs simply say " WE are findind that these conditions are coinciding or part of HEPC. Any more good news?? Living in constant fear and the unknown. The drs feel i am unresponsive to those treatments?so theres no more options for me, But i know their are and i get shot down time after time. So now i just buck up and think to myself geezzzzzz am i really that worthless that someone couldnt be willing to help me?? So far i take the answer is yes. So my heart just beams when i read about alot of your positive outcomes and even clearing this monster we bare. Ok I told u all it was long and i havent told 1/2 yet but just figured i would share a little of my experiances and maybe some of you educa ted people would have a suggestion or 2 for me. Thank? You Nanci?God Bless You All biopsy > > Hepatitis Csupportgr oupgroups (DOT) com > > Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 10:29 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > there's always the possibility that the needle hits cancer and cancer cells > > can in the process escape into the system and metastasize leading to big > > trouble. slim but possible. it happens with prostate biopsies > > ? > > ? > > ? > > Can you show me some scientific proof of this happening? Guest guest
During a routine physical, my doctor decided to do a hepatitis blood test because I had been complaining about a cough that I had. The test came back positive for 'hepatitis c'. I am scheduled for a liver biopsy at the end of the month. I have been upset about this since being told that I have 'hep c'. I just started a new job in July and trying not to take time off from work. What other ways can 'hep c' be contracted aside from sex and blood transfusion? > > > > > > From: Angelo <tommybad238@> > > Subject: biopsy > > Hepatitis C > > Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 10:29 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > there's always the possibility that the needle hits cancer and cancer cells > > can in the process escape into the system and metastasize leading to big > > trouble. slim but possible. it happens with prostate biopsies > > > > > > > > Can you show me some scientific proof of this happening? Guest guest
it takes an exchange of blood. contaminated medical, dental, tattoo, piercing, injection drug outfit sharing, sometimes shared razors or toothbrushes, possible kissing if both have bleeding gum problems, very slim through non-violent vaginal sex, but anal is a significant risk. anyway that blood can get into blood. stomach acid kills it. it won't live outside in the air for long... but i forget how long. > Re: biopsy > > During a routine physical, my doctor decided to do a > hepatitis blood test because I had been complaining about a > cough that I had.
