Guest guest
Hi , My name is Kate! I'm 39 and developed RA suddenly after I delivered my second son. We knew we wanted to have a third (I'm actually very NEWLY pregnant right now!) so I avoided ALL meds. Early on, after I stopped breastfeeding , I was on Enbrel and prednisone - but took myself off of all of them (slowly) due to our desire to try to conceive. I actually did get pregnant about six months ago and my RA went into remission, which can happen, but I lost the baby and it came rushing back. It was then that I consulted with a doctor who specializes in nutrition and she put me on a diet that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY with inflammation and pain. If you're interested, let me know. Also - and this may seem kinda " out there " - but I now see a woman who does " Energy work " and healing. She's a Chiropractor who specializes in something called " Bio Geometric Integration " . You can read about it on this website and also find someone in your area that practices it: http://www.bgiseminars.com/BGI_seminiars.html  I feel a LOT better since seeing her. I've been chronicling my journey with her on the online journal I keep every day. I had her treat my two year old son, Gavin, too. He has CP. The changes in him after ONE visit were astounding. Almost miraculous. I realize I'm being kinda vague about all of this. I know it's a little " different " and " alternative " . If you're interested, you can email me!  Good luck! Get off that methotrexate and stay off it for a WHILE before you start trying.... kate. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gavinleong From: mbar613909 <mbar613909@...> Subject: [ ] Thinking about getting pregnant Date: Tuesday, January 19, 2010, 11:50 PM  hello all my name is . I am totally new to this forum or blogging stuff. I am 30 years old and have had RA for about 3 years. I was an avid salsa dancer, a huge bikram yoga fan,and loved any areobic glass i could bounce around in. RA put the brakes on all that. I started getting inflamation in my wrists and fingers, so salsa dancing stopped right along with the hot yoga. I was put on azulfazine and mobic, then Humera.I saw some relief oh and a lot of prednisone(gained like ten pounds ! Then i quite all meds before my wedding and that was a BIG mistake. When i returned from my honeymoon I started treatment. I started Enbrel and Methotrxate, i have been really good for the last @ years, but now i am thinking about trying to concieve and i am so scared how my body will react : ( I have started decreasing my methotrexate and my body is a lil uncomfortable . Has anyone been in this situatuation ?
Guest guest
congrats on getting married. I actually got RA after having my son but I have a friend who has RA and she said it wasnt too bad during pregnancy but I would definitely talk to your Rheumatologist about what meds to take so you dont have a massive flare and talk to your obgyn about whats safe to take. Good luck Kim ________________________________ From: mbar613909 <mbar613909@...> Sent: Tue, January 19, 2010 11:50:41 PM Subject: [ ] Thinking about getting pregnant  hello all my name is . Guest guest
Hi , Sure! The doctor told me to try this for two weeks - see how I felt - and then decide if I wanted to keep it up. To be honest, I wasn't sure I would last TWO DAYS, let alone two weeks. I am a person addicted to sweets. I ate a Strawberry Frosted pop tart every single morning. I love coffee. I lived on Diet Coke. So, when she said to give up: Caffeine, Sugar, soda, anything made with white flour and cut down carbs severely...I wanted to cry. Every morning she told me to make a smoothie - I would freeze bananas (peeled in a zip loc bag individually) and throw one in the blender along with: frozen blueberries, a scoop of protein powder, a soft boiled egg (1 minute boil), psyllium powder, 8 oz of filtered water and any other extra fruit I wanted (I usually picked a pear). Then she told me to snack on nuts, raisins, etc. during the day. To add lots of protein and veggies. I would grill a bunch of chicken breasts on the weekend to eat all week for lunch. I would also buy those steam bags of veggies that are so easy to throw in the microwave. I was hard core and did it for two weeks. You know what happened? Not only did my pain and inflammation decrease... but I realized I felt a lot better. Two weeks has now turned into several months. Just to give you an idea of the drastic change... I would wake up with crippled hands. I have two babies - a two year old with Cerebral Palsy and a one year old active walker. I needed help to dress myself - so I definitely needed help to get them up, dressed, fed, etc. I wouldn't feel functional until noon. It was dreadful. Now - I only have slight pain in my wrists that is bearable. I don't get swelling that much at all. It's amazing. I hope that helps! The way I see it - there really are no side effects to changing your diet that are negative!!! It's worth a shot. It was for me!! Good luck...and keep us posted! kate. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gavinleong From: <cntrygrl86@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Thinking about getting pregnant Date: Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 12:41 PM Hello Kate, Can you tell me more about the diet that helped you. Guest guest
What an inspiration! I'm looking into various dietary changes because the meds I've finally been put on, while easing the RA symptoms a bit, are taking a toll on my energy and I'm depressed all the time. I'm getting tired of the medical roller coaster I've been on. You have inspired me. Can you give some tips/tricks on how to kick the cravings for carbs and sweets? How long did it take and how hard was it? You certainly have your hands full! Kudos to you. Michele > > Hi , > Sure!
