Joanne....please forgive me... I can`t figure out any other way to send

the sites I send ....all they are ...are sites I have found surfing the

internet under a desired topic.... I`m very computer illiterate and

don`t own a computer... but it seems to me if the sites I forward are

infected in any way then NO one could use a search engine to find any

info on the internet... my search is thru webtv which uses MSN

and the people at webtv clean everything coming to me. Most times when I

find something of interest All I have is the topic heading or page that

is incorporated from something like Hepatitis Central or Pub-med or

Medline etc. and they really are no different than the sites that you

send (albeit w/o the url) when we had the recent virus thing... although

I received them too ....they were immpossible for me to open and to send

on due to the built in programming by microsoft at webtv.

I know everyone is worried about attatchments but (because I`m ignorant)

I can`t see the difference between sending the URL or or the topic of

the site ... either way if one clicked on to it and it were infected

then the results would be the same ... and if I went on a search for say

blood tests and the topic in my search says " blood tests " should I be

afraid to open it because the url isn`t shown ...or am I missing

something... I don`t want to upset anyone so I`ll try some other way but

please know that I am trying the best I can to find professional answers

to questions that we ask... if any one who is familiar with webtv has

answers for me, please let me know. Again I`m sorry...

Jerry

P.S. should I assume that some of the info I find thru searching the

net may be infected... I know there are some sites that webtv wont open

for me... but I just thought they were shut down..

Hey .

Thanx for writing to . NIce to hear that Louise is doing okay. I was really starting to worry about her as well. So what is going on with Larry's tonsils? Are they enlarged or something? I had to get mine removed when I was about 15 cuz they were so enlarged I couldn't breathe and being a long distance runner then, it was a pain in the butt not getting enough oxygen into my body. I still can't do as much as I used to, but that's probably from smoking so much.

So yes, the surgery date is coming up real quickly. I hope and wish all goes well with the surgery. Give Larry my wishes and of course to you too. Stay strong!! Glad to hear also that you got your meds refilled. I know how that can be when you have NOTHING. For those times when you really feel you can't handle it. Larry may be just trying to keep himself busy so he doesn't have to think of the upcoming operation. But I'm sure he's glad to get back to work also.

My ear is still not doing so well. Been popping the pain pills till I make it into the doctor next week. Couldn't gotten in the other day but I had some other stuff I had to do that I also couldn't cancel. The receptionist was a little snotty with me, but I said well what else can I do? Just have to stick with the pain and hold out till Tuesday.

12 more days till my trip to Holland. I can't wait. I really hope nothing is wrong and prevents me from flying. I'm really looking forward to a vacation. I will try to get on a pc and check in with the group as much as possible.

I welcome all the new members. I've been emailing other sites and getting this site listed on their site, and gettin it listed in . I also have it listed on a dutch site too :) So I'm sure soon we'll be a pretty popular group as we are starting to find out just how many people and family have this disease.

Hope all is well with everyone and I will try my best to get back to any posts.

Hugz to all,

Kim

Hello Kim,

Three days and counting........ Yes Larry's tonsils are swollen. On

a scale of 1 to 4 they are a 3. Since Larry has surgery coming up

and they don't hurt, his ENT in town elected not to do anything but

wants to see him immediately if they get sore. So far they don't

hurt. They better not either. I don't want anything to postpone

this surgery. I got my tonsils out when I was 16 and I told Larry

that if he had to get his out now it would probably hurt worse than

his ear after surgery. You know what they say about the older you

are when you get your tonsils out the worse it hurts. I believe it.

When I got mine out I wanted to die it hurt so bad.

I hope your ear gets better before your trip. If you still have ear

pain will you be able to fly? Not having ear problems I don't really

know the effects of flying.

Well, I better go. Got a lot to do before the big day. I'll try and

write one more time before surgery and if I can I will access a

computer at the University.

Hi Larry,

These are not silly questions at all and everyone goes through this just

like you are when they are researching the implant.

In many cases the headwrapping is just over night these days. Three and

a half years ago I had to wear mine for 2 days before the surgeon said I could

take it off. But nowadays the incision is so much smaller and the healing is

faster. Yes, you will be able to use your other ear while the month between

surgery and hook-up is passing. On the hook-up days (2) you will be given a

series of tests with beeps just like a standard hearing test. Then you will go

" live " and listen to your audie talk. On this first hook-up day, things may

sound absolutely horrible, or you may have speech understanding right away.

You never know what may happen but it is all in the range of normal. My first

hook-up day was awful because I thought that I would understand speech right

away and I couldn't. On the second day, the audie makes some adjustments to

your programm setting sbecaus3e ven in the first 24 hours, your hearng needs

will change drastically. It's as if you are a baby learning to hear for the

first time and the learning curve is great! You get some programs put into your

speech processor and you try them over the next couple of weeks. You and your

audie then decided how often you should go back for mappings based on what you

need.

Larry,

I spent most of the day setting up my computer but didn't configure my

e-mail client until later this afternoon. Perhaps during that time there was

nowhere for your message to be delivered? Then again, you'd think that my

ISP would have stored my messages on their server even though I didn't have

my modem and e-mail account set up.

Hey Larry,

I just had my CI at the university of Ark July 1.

Who is your doctor?

You will get a job well done. I was very pleased with the staff, the

dr. and the audie.

Hi ,

I know the surgery must have hurt her a lot. I will definitely heed your

advice to love her and treat her like a baby when she comes home. I'm so lucky

to have her, and I don't know what I would do if I lost her.

I talked to her nurse yesterday and she said Sharon wasn't going to release

her until she could hold something on her stomach. Yesterday she ate a bite of

rice. She says the mere thought of food is repulsive. I appreciate your concern

and prayers behind Sharon. I believe strongly in the power of prayer.

sincerely,

Hi Larry,

I agree with uou, prayers help a lot to traverse difficult situations in

life. Further, I am very convinced that the fact that Sharon knows and

realizes how much she is important to you will help her to achieve a better

recovery. As for food, does she not have some kind of favorites so she coul

dgradually become a bit interested in it?

hoping the best for you and Sharon

Yes I can adjust the older one and the newer one too with the bwp.

I cant with the bte on either of them.

I love the bwp. There is such control when you wear them that you don't

have with the bte.

It sure is better with two though. I can actually feel myself relax when I

put on the newer one.

Phyllis

The Auria has a fixed sensitivity so this is set during the mapping and you

can't personally change it once the audiologist has set it but if that

becomes problem, you call for mapping to get the audiologist to work on the

sensitivity but the answer to your question is yes. I don't know whether

this is true on the older AB processors but perhaps someone here can tell

us. Those being implanted with the 40K (AB implant) use the Auria

processor.

Phyllis - you have the older and the newer AB implant. Do you have control

of the sensitivity on the older one once you have left the audiologists

office or is that a fixed sensitivity too?

Alice

Thanks Phyllis for the clairfication. So with the AB body worn processors, you

can adjust the sensitivity but the audiologist fixes the sensitivity on the BTEs

during the mapping and it can only be changed with a mapping session.

I'm so glad you are enjoying the new CI and bilateral sound.

Larry,

I may be wrong about this (if I am someone please correct me), but I think

the Platinum speech processor (similar to Nucleus' BWP) from AB has an

adjustable sensitivity control. At least this is what I thought my audi told

me.

I think I am doing really good so far. I haven't tried the phone yet with the

new one but I will eventually. I am taking it slow and easy. All my energy is

really tied up taking care of Lanie. She is almost twelve months old now and

walking and talking and doing all the things that a sweet little angel should

do. I just try to get through the day and don't have much energy left over at

the end of the day. I would not have it any other way though.

Hi all,

It seems next monday will be a great day for many of us. While many of us

will be on the table I will be in the activation box in quebec city for my

first day. I will be there for two weeks with a session per day, cause I

have two implants to activate during that time. Two great weeks in

perspective. Good luck to all.

I know this is a little late......but wanted to respond to Larry's question

about the sensitivity on the older BTEs. I got my BTE sometime in or around

April of 2002. Depending on how many programs you have in there....it can be

set to where you can change the sensitivity without going back to the audie to

do this. I have done this. Right now, all my programs are full.....so I do

not have control over the sensitivity. In other words, I cannot go to another

slot and change my sensitivity, because I have three different programs on my

BTE. Feel free to correct me if you think I am not right about this......

Hi, Larry,

I'm sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable following your surgery.

This is quite common, but I wish it had skipped you! At any rate, by the time

you read this I'm hoping things have settled down a bit for you and you're on

your way to a full recovery. Stay on top of that pain by taking your meds

at regular intervals. Prevention is known to be most of the cure! Prayers

for an easier recovery from here on out.

Larry,

I hope this finds you feeling better today; it's not unusual to have

side effects for a few days. Just take the meds the dr ordered and

tale it as easy as you can. Hopefully it won't be long until you are

feeling more like your old self again.

Continued good wishes for a speedy recovery.

Keep us informed when you can and take care.

Hugs,

Silly MI
