Guest guest
Hi Larry! I am soooo sorry you are having a rough recovery. I sure hope each day gets easier for you. Believe me, I know what it's like to go through a rough recovery and I know it's not fun! I am going to give you my best advice which is to hang in there, take things as they happen, believe that you did the right thing by going for the surgery, take as many naps during the day as you need to and remember what Jackie often types in here " you will never have the opportunity to be pampered like this again! " Sorry Jackie but I just had to use your quote. ;-) Hoping things improve for you soon, Larry! Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
I guess curriosity really killed the cat. I took the tape off the nucleus equipment. and I find voila!!! Loads of 6755 hearing aidd batteries. Mine was about to go down anyway so I put one of the new ones in my hearing aids and I find out it gives better sound than the radioshack batteries. I know it sounds very selfish, but I will have to live from day to day and stop letting Sharron getting me down. Her stroke I can't control. I still love her though and need her desperately. Guest guest
Larry, So sorry to hear about your wife. It's a very stressful time for you both. Unfortunately I have learned that CI's and stress don't work well together. You will need your rest so you'll be able to help your wife and yourself of course. As the saying goes " one day at a time " ..Remember the Lord has a plan for us all. We might not understand but try to focus on all the good in your live both past and yet to come..God bless you and your family. However, I'm glad you're okay and have decided to take things one day at a time. Alice is exactly right when she says that sometimes we need to take a moment to think of ourselves. It doesn't mean that you love Sharon any less -- it just means that you need to time out to love and care for yourself. I can emphasize with your situation. I found out this weekend that my mother has stomach cancer and will need chemotherapy. She's doing really well at the moment but the news hit our family quite hard because it was so unexpected. I'll be thinking of you and Sharon. In the meantime, please try to take it easy and do something good for yourself. You deserve it, my friend. Guest guest
Hi Larry, First, I am glad to learn that your operation is pretty much out of the way now and sure the healing will progress well with the attitude of yours. It is important to you and to Sharon that love continues to flow between you. But your first priority has to be you day to day for if it is not the case, you will not be able to be what you se dearly wish to be, a positive element in the life of your Sharon. Keep up with that attitude and, come the 15th, your activation has a very good chance to be a successfull one. Jean At 11:02 2004-10-05, you wrote: > I guess curriosity really killed the cat. Guest guest
Swapping CI's by those with bilaterals have been known to totally reverse themselves. You know, its kinda like polarity where white becomes blaak or black becomes white. Left goes right and right goes left. Oh lordy! Dont take chances, yuh just dont know what will happen. I am planning to go to a concert featurng Aretha lin and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Do you think this might be overdoing it? Do you think she will sound like a screechy old housewife? Guest guest
Alice I get to see Sharon when I can. They have transportation for the disabled in Little Rock called links. You are required to call 2 weeks in advance, and you can be bumped without notice. I have people that go to my church that are willing to take me to Parkview, but I'm afraid they will get tired of it. I got to spend time with Sharon today, and I will eat lunch and spend the day tomorrow. Sharon finally has a nice roommate. Oops, I'm sorry this wasn't about ci. I will try to do better. Guest guest
Larry, You are not the only not on any meds. I too do not take any meds for my RA. I went into a remission of sorts after some major surgery. The lifestyle changes after my weightloss surgery made more of a difference than any meds could. I also could not afford the cost of the meds. I also had every side effect there was and the was miserably sick on the meds. I feel so much better off meds. yes I do have some aches, pains and stiffness. I just deal with it and keep moving. I am hoping to return to work fulltime very soon. I am hoping that the stresses of working will not necessitate returning to RA meds because it will have to get pretty bad before I even think about it. Guest guest
hello , I don't know why I lost my hearing so suddenly before my second implant. I had a major ear infection in that ear, and after it healed, my hearing went away like a favorite song fading in to the air. Yes, I have Norries disease. My nephew, Chad, also has Norries. Guest guest
Hi, Larry, Between redoing your T's and C's at each mapping, and you giving your observations and requests for certain sound to your audi, you shouldn't have to sacrifice highs or lows. I prefer highs, myself, so we " emphasize " them. We do that by raising the levels of the high and evening out the lows. We experiment with what to do with the lows. We can take some out by turning off electrodes off or leveling them out. We try different things each time. And different things work depending on my T's and C's, and they DO change. By the way, this should hold true for both the 3G and the Freedom, of which I have both. Good luck. ) Jackie Implanted - right ear - Oct.2002 - Nucleus 24/3G Reimplanted - right ear - Jan.2005 - Nucleus 24C/3G Implanted - left ear - Sept.2005 - Nucleus-Freedom
Guest guest
hi Jackie, Thanks for your kind email of support. I have all my electrodes activated at the present time. I heard my mom's water faucet dripping as usual with my 3G. I thought I heard it with my Freedom too. I turned my 3G off and sure enough. I heard it with my Freedom. Sounds seem to be correcting themselves with the Freedom. Guest guest
I have never proposed eliminating anyone. I am only saying that if asl, pse, and other forms of deaf communication were done away with, the deaf culture as we know it would be a thing of the past. Deaf people would still be here but the scourge of deafness would be gone forever. May I issue you a challenge? Why not be a man and talk with me by telephone with your Ci. You will find, I have excellent phone skills. I am not tooting my horn, merely stating facts. Larry Re: Larry > Larry, > You are worse than Hitler. Guest guest
Larry, Whatever you call it, its still unimaginable that you would even think of it. I suspect you ahve had bad experiences with those in the deaf culture. The cochlear implant is not a fix all solution. What do you propose to do with those that cannot benefit from a CI, shove them into a closet? And you said " ...but the scourge of deafness would be gone forever. " And I say, you are so deluded if you think its that simple. If you think its ok to force parents to have their deaf kids implanted, then you would not mind being forced to be committed to some place out of sight simply because youc are blind. After all, you cannot read print. Can you read braille? Yeah I hear you tooting your own horn, and oh is it ever out of tune. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* I reserve the right to be wrong. Guest guest
Yes, . I am a proficient Braille reader. I also know and appreciate the value of a spell checker. Your spelling errors are for everyone to see. You have never met me and therefore don't know how well I do with my cochlear implants. You haven't said anything about the challenge I issued. Yes, I have had many unfortunate experiences with the deaf community. When they found out I wasn't interested in learning sign language, I was ostracized by them. In retrospect, I understand. The deaf culture want to be isolated like an island within itself. There are probably those who cannot benefit from the cochlear implant. However, with new advances in technology and medical advances, we will make progress. Remember, not too many years ago when their was nothing that could be done for common, old-fashioned, nerve deafness. regards, Larry Re: Larry > Larry, > Whatever you call it, its still unimaginable that you would even think > of it. Guest guest
I'm just curious, why are you on this board in the first place? This is a board for dismantling the rampant propaganda disseminated by Big Pharma and to try and spread the word about what we all have known for years -- that psych meds, psych treatment, ECT, Big Pharma are all a bunch of lies used to make money. Most of us have been irreparably harmed by this so-called treatment, and yet you are on here day after day spouting about how much all these drugs have helped you. I doubt that seriously, as I would bet you have underlying medical conditions caused by the very treatment you are hailing as miraculous. So why are you here? Nobody is going to tell you that the drugs you take are great, or that your shrink is a hero, or that being locked up in a looney bin is of help to anyone. Do you even have a clue as to what our mission is and how many of us here are now responsible for suicide and homicide warnings on the drugs you gobble?
