Guest guest
Hi Doreen, thank you for your reply. I am on the same amount of mtx. Yes I do the folic acid. Im positive it is the mtx that elevated the enzymes as I don't use lodine every day I try to stay away from nsaids. I haven't started mobic yet so I know its not that. I don't do Tylenol or any of those either. I did plaquenil it didn't help me they stopped it because I started to have muscle weakness which they thought was a side effect from the plaquenil but which later proved it wasn't. its been one crazy roller coaster ride that's for sure. Im a little afraid to start the chloroquine. I was starting to get a partial life back on mtx at that level but since she had to decrease the level she wanted to add something that would make up the difference of the lower dose of mtx thus where the chloroquine and mobic come into play. But the three of them with elevated liver enzymes scares me. Thank you for the webside :-) Angel huggles, Dawn < /message/129941;_ylc=X3oDMTJycnRndD VqBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzEwMTQ3OARncnBzcElkAzE3MDUwNjE2MTAEbXNnSWQDMTI5OT QxBHNlYwNkbXNnBHNsawN2bXNnBHN0aW1lAzEyNDQ5NTAyOTE-> Re: Mtx, chloroquine and mobic Posted by: " Mimi " <mailto:mimi212@...?Subject=%20Re%3A%20Mtx%2C%20chloroquine%20and%20m obic> mimi212@... <dodo32763> dodo32763 Sat Jun 13, 2009 7:51 am (PDT) Hi Dawn - I'm sorry you are having problems with your liver enzymes and happy at the same time that the MTX seems to be working so well for you. How many ml are you injecting weekly of the MTX? I inject 0.8ml weekly. Are you taking folic acid too? I take 1mg of folic acid on every day except the day of the MTX. That helps with the side effects of the MTX. There are other things besides MTX that can cause elevated liver enzymes. Most (if not all) NSAID's carry that risk (Lodine & Mobic included). Do you drink alcohol at all? I was told by my Rheumy and Pharmacist not to drink any alcohol. Are you taking any OTC meds like Advil, Tylenol, Alleve? Those can also contribute to higher liver enzymes and really should not be taken if you are taking Lodine or Mobic. I've not taken Chloroquine, but did try Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine) which is in the same group of anti-malarial drugs. I had to discontinue it because it was messing with my eyesight. I'm not a doctor, but from experience and what others have posted here, I wonder if there are other things that could be adjusted to help bring your liver enzymes back to normal without adjusting the MTX - especially if you were getting relief from the MTX. I found this wonderful website <http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html> http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html . You put in the medications that you are taking and it will tell you if there is a drug interaction to be concerned about. Some of mine have been flagged, but I know from my Rheumy and Pharmacist that certain risks are minimal in the whole scheme of things. Hope this helps.
