Guest guest
Hi OKD:     Boy, what a time you are having trying to get off the pain meds. You are right, they are very powerful drugs. I hope as you begin to taper down, that it gets better for you and that you feel human soon.     I was happy to read that all your RA meds, have kicked in and are working well for you. It does take time to find our " right cocktail of meds. " for our RA and I am glad you found yours. I wish you continued success, and many pain free days ahead. Enjoy having your life back. That is so wonderful.  Hugs,  Barbara From: OKD <Cofade_2000@...> Subject: [ ] Dont make the same mistake I did Date: Monday, January 11, 2010, 11:42 AM  Hi Folks: Besides that it's cold, finally, I felt better with the MTX, Prendisone and Enbrel, finally, no pain, so what do I do? i stop the fentanyl patch and the lovodrom. Bad mistake my people. I began to vomit, nausea, shaking, feeling terrible, cant eat, no energy, diahrea. Big mistake, pain doc reemed me out, seems you cant just stop taking these big pain meds. Now I feel like a junkie, she is sending me some emergency meds to taper me off. She wanted to give me methadone (I refused it). Never felt so bad in my life, but no pain from the RA, after all this time, the meds kicked in. Now, if I can slowly kick the pain meds, or just take them when I need them, I might be able to feel like a person again. Dont make the same mistake i did. These meds are all so strong each of them on their own, they must be tapered slowly. hard lesson to learn OKD

Guest guest
Thanks and Barbara: You guys are awesome. Wow, what a horrible feeling to be withdrawing from the meds. To think I was in such horrid pain two months ago, and now it has subsided, yet I am stuck weaning off them, is incredible. The doctor gave me something called Opana to wean off the Fentanyl and the Lovodrom (which was for breakthru pain). Today I saw the Rheumy and she is going to try to reduce my prednison to 2.5 instead of 5 mgs everyday. I just found out prednison can give you osteoporosis. You know I asked her if I would be crippled by RA eventually, She said some of her pts have effectively been on Enbrel for more than 10 yrs and you wouldnt even know they have RA and others nothing works for them, everyone is different. Its the luck of the draw apparently. When she felt my joints, they hurt a bit when she presses on them, and my knee gives me a limp every once in a while, but I am good at ignorning that. Just had surgery and I went off Enbrel for one month, my greatest fear is that the RA Monster would rear its fugly head, but it didnt. maybe 2010 is gonna be good year. Thanks, I read everyday. Guest guest
Hi OKD: Glad you are doing good. It will take a while to get off the pain meds., and I am glad you have something to make it easier for you. You also have to go very, very slowly getting of Pred. If you go down too fast, you will suffer great pain, and be back to square one. I would try to get down to 2.5 in small increments. Example: Cut your 5 mg. in half, then cut one half in half. Try to take 5 mg. 1 day, then the next day take one 2.5 and the other half of the 2.5. Altrnate these everyother day for a week or so. I am sure your Rheumy will explain this to you. I know from experience that if you come down too fast, you will hurt like hell. I personally have to go even slower then most. I hope you are successful getting off the Pred. In 6 years I have never been able to get off it. The minute I am off it, boom, I have an instant horrible flare to deal with. I am down to my original dose of 5 mg. daily, and soon will try to get off of it. Maybe this time I will be successful. I am glad your RA meds. are working so well for you. I have been in a medicine induced remission for over a year now. It is amazing to be pain free. I have no idea how long this will last, but I am most grateful for it. Take care, and rest when you can/ It does help in all ways.
