Guest guest
OKD, The nausea may subside over time, but many of our members report that MTX injections are better tolerated. You could ask your rheumatologist about that. Are you taking folic acid, too? Good luck. I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. Guest guest
Yes. The doctor gave ms some folinaic acid. I bought some kiddy stuff from the pharm for nausea. I will deal. dont like needles, trying to avoid the biologicsl. hope the mtx works. ugh. , how many auto immune diseases can a person have, do you know. I have 2 and I hope there are now more pending. OKD
Guest guest
Hi OKD: No one hates needles more than me, but, due to the MTX pills making me so sick to my stomach 24 hrs. a day, I started the injections. You never feel the needle stick at all. I was a wreck doing my first shot, but all is fine now. I have been injecting for 6 years now. I use my thighs, no where else. If the MTX pills makes you very sick, please try the injection. You won't be sorry. Wishing you pain free days ahead. Hugs, Barbara --- In , " cofade_2000 " <Cofade_2000@...> wrote: > > Yes. Ugh, havent actually thrown up yet (which is good) just queasy. I will try to stick to see if the meds work, not sure whats worse yet though. ugh. i am going to lick this thing though. Guest guest
1) How many pills do you take? 2) Did you take them all at one time? When I was on MTX, I had severe nausea and felt like crap for 48 hours. I found that if I broke up the dosage over a 24 hour period, things were better. Example: 3 Friday Noon, 2 Friday before bed, 3 Sat AM. I am no longer on MTX for a variety of reasons.... mainly because it made me so bitchy I couldn't even stand MYSELF! hee hee Prednisone is probably responsible for your reduced swelling.... It works fast! *~ Kami ~* [ ] mtx - need some advice So I was Rheumy again, my pain/heat was thru roof, i felt like i was on fire, but no fever, first time in life, high blood pressure, very imflammed on my hands and foot, noticeably swollen between knuckles on both hands. She told me she wnted me off prednisone after one more week, to increae to 10 on bad days, but stay on 5 for another week. I strted Methotrexate Friday, after food in AM, by 3PM I was so nauseous I had to leave work early. I had on the fentaynl patch and I became so exhausted, that I slept all night friday and all dy saturday, i got up to eat a little and feel right back to sleep, never been so tired in all my life. my hubby and son home from school dont understand the fatigue, but they see the swelling. is this normal? Does the nausea subside when you get used to mtx? My doc wants me to start on biologics, but I am hesitant, i am hoping that the MTX does the trick....today, sundy, swelling down, not sure if 10 mgs pred did it or the mtx works quick Do the effects of MTX normnally last 2 days (nausea)? I started on six flavor tea pills so I hope that these help after one month to cool my body down.... please advise..... OKD
Guest guest
Hi again: The nausea just killed me, and I had to get some relief. I hope you feel better soon. What a way to spend each day..... just rotten. I too hate to take more pills, but such is the nature of these diseases. I am at the point that whatever helps, I will take. I need a life, and so do all of us here. Wishing you better days ahead. Guest guest
When on the pill form of MTX, I can have nausea, extreme fatigue and diarrhea for anywhere from 2-5 days. The fatigue is the worst the day after I take it. So, what I do it take it at bedtime to sleep through the worst of the side effects. Since you have to work, I'd take it on Friday night so you'll have the whole weekend to recover. I've just started injecting the MTX (I've been on Humira for two years now as well) and I think that it's easier on my stomach and I seem to recover from the side effects quicker. It was only 1.5 days this week. The injections are cheaper than the pills. I was a little weirded out at first sticking a needle in myself, but was rather surprised that it really didn't hurt, so after that first time it was no big deal. Are you taking Folic Acid to help ameliorate some of the side effects? Guest guest
I took eight 2.5 oral MTX for six months, took them all at once. I learned to take it the following way and I had the most success with when doing so: 1. Make sure you are fully hydrated during the day. 2. Took them 1 to 1 1/2 hours after last meal. This way you're not taking them on an empty stomach and it made it easier for me. 3. After plenty of liquids after to dilute the medication. 4. I ate a little later on med night knowing I good go to bed thereby sleeping off any the bad effects. 5. Prepared next day to be in a daze, I call it hangover day. There's not much you can do about it but schedule your activities accordingly. I always tried to avoid bill paying or mental exercises like reading 's post because in my case I had a lot of mental confusion (more than usual!). MTX is hard on you digestive system and there's nothing you can do about it other than know it and deal with it according. Some people just can't deal with it and take the injections. Having done both, I can tell you I like the injections more, it seems more effective and it doesn't effect your stomach. It's really no big deal. Talk to your Rheumatologist. Also, if your body doesn't like MTX it's probably not going to like it in any form. Hope this helps. Stan Seattle, Cloudy. Guest guest
I started on mtx injections, when the pills made me sick. I don't really have stomach problems anymore. I still have fatigue of course. I take my mtx, when I'm able to just rest. It sounds like your in a bad flare, I'm so sorry. I would talk to the doctor about putting you on mtx injections. The biologics along with the mtx, does help quite a bit. I've been on humira w/mtx for quite a while. Have you talked to your doctor about high blood pressure? You really need to let your doctor know all these side effects. You could be having a reaction from the meds. I hope your doc can find something to make you feel better. You might ask about a steroid shot? Keep us posted. Guest guest
Wow; All of you thanks for you replies. I learned the hard way. I take 4 tsbs of MTX, 2.5 mgs I chose Friday so I would have the weekend. Stan I am going to do what you say. If I tske the pills in the PM, early afternoon, I will be better off. I felt better Sunday, so I took a walk, not so sure that was good idea, the sun was beating hot and I swelled up a bit on ny ankles. I am playing with my meds until I get this under control. Synthroid before breakfast, empty stomach (dont need to be crazy from hashi's during RA FLARES) Omega 3's/Calcium with Food (causes agita) 81 mgs aspirin with food (chewable baby aspirin, orange, hey the kids cant have all the fun) Folinaic Acid with Food (if I loose my hair, Rhemuy gets it) Chinese herbals with food (might save me soon from the heat) MTX Friday PM, lots OF WATER aka lousy saturday Prendisone (wanna play with it, not every day, only when I swell 10 mgs, can I do this??) Fentanyl patch (only prn cause it causes nausea) Please God, no more pills......... Does anyone have tips for cooling yourself off during internal flares, wow they sre something, now I sm going into menopause and I wonder if RA triggers hot flashes or ugh! vice versa.... Guest guest
OKD, There is no limit for the number of rheumatic diseases one may have, but to have many of them is unusual. Also, certain combinations are very unlikely. Not an MD On Sun, Jun 7, 2009 at 9:36 AM, cofade_2000<Cofade_2000@...> wrote: > > > Yes. The doctor gave ms some folinaic acid. Guest guest
I hope that it works out for you! For me, MTX is a hard drug to tolerate, but if I don't take it I pretty much lose the use of my hands. I take 2mg of folic acid per day, else my hair starts falling out. You can try taking Metamucil daily to help with the constipation. Maybe your body needs to adjust to the folic acid, so give it some time. Hope that you feel better soon! Guest guest
: Thanks for response. Having Two is quite enuf. Anybody have any experience with RA Flares and Menopause hot flashes? The only way I can differentiate is the visible swelling. Do you think if RA " hots " are controlled, you wont then get hot flashes? Guest guest
Lori: Funny you should say this, I dont have joint damage, RA is only x 3months diagnosed (felt for the last 6), but noticed... before i got the 'RA Hots' and swelling that my hands started to respond differently. Its almost like they are not as fast as your brain sends the signal and your grasp becomes more fragile, different. OKD > > I hope that it works out for you!
