Guest guest
<<Ever since I have been diagnosed with chronic Lyme, my hair has become thinner and thinner. There is a very significant change. So much so that even my hair dresser has noticed. Is this another Lyme symptom? Or am I just gettin old at 18? <G> >> Hi ! I'm so out of it and haven't realy been paying attention, but just in case it wasn't mentioned, hair loss is a rather COMMON side eddect of candida. Aside from treating candida, there are supplements that can also be taken strictly for hair loss. Howeve, these tend to be not to effective if there untreated candida lurching. ) Cheryl

Guest guest
, Flagyl made my hair fall out by the handful. It didn't do much for my symptoms, but I now have half the amount of hair on my head that I once had. My new Lyme doctor (who does NOT like Flagyl and doesn't advocate it except as a drug of last resort when all else has failed) told me that it effectively acted as a dose of chemo, and I was going to have to endure the hair loss for about 3 months, after which it should start growing back. (I was only on the Flagyl for 21 days). I stopped it on 4/21 and my hair loss seems to be slowing down. Have you tried any other orals? I'm having good results from 1000 mg Biaxin and 500 mg Ceftin. Guest guest
Why Flaygl??That is really not a good drug of choice..and I've never heard of anyone with hair loss...Do you have a thyroid condition on top of the lyme??The only medications I've found to work are zithromax and biaxin...Also lots of rest and vitamins..It's the pits, isn't it???It will get better.though...try not to spend too much time dwelling on the lyme.....Take care...Jeanne(Milsun@...) Guest guest
Many of us suffer from 's Syndrome, a thyroid disorder. This is an inability to convert T4 into T3 both of these thyroid hormones are necessary for proper thyroid function. If you body temperature is subnormal (below normal) you may have 's syndrome many Lymies do. Any thyroid problem can cause hair loss. Guest guest
Hi Janet, That is the exact kind of hair loss I am talking about. It is most noticable to me when I shampoo my hair or comb it when it is wet. My dr. seem less concerned about it than me. He says he will get concerned if he finds bald patches and he doesn't see any of those. But he did blame it on the mtx. Joanne
Guest guest
Hi Jayne, That is a good point .. .maybe it is the disease and not the mtx. I don't know how to really measure it. It is more than a dozen strands of hair. I tired counting the strands one time...and stopped after I hit 40 strands. I don't know if that sounds like a lot, but it sure seems like a lot. I have to clean my brush after every use it. Joanne
Guest guest
I also have noticed the same hair loss. When wet and washing and combing. No one else had noticed. I just notice mostly when I put my hair in a pony tail. I can wrap the band around 3x instead of the usual 2. I was hoping that it was just aging. (No more teeny bopper - just thirty something . . . I think I read something about Nioxcin??? > Dear Irene, Oh, yes, I've heard so much about Nioxin. Basically, save your money!! It is an expensive product, and the people from the company cannot/' will not support the claims it makes. They showed up at an national Trich conference (which I attended) to promote their products, but refused to allow scientific examination when asked to do so, just said that we should take their word. How do I know? I have Trichotillomania, which means Compulsive Hair Pulling/Plucking, and belong to another remailer for it & have met hundreds of others with this disorder. I'll be brief here, as the main topic is Lyme, not hair loss in any form. Nioxin, Tea Tree Oil, and many other remedies have been discussed thoroughly. For hair loss, it frequently helps to avoid simple carbohydrates/ sugars, alcohol, PEANUTS, and caffeine, plus any allergens. Some meds cause hair loss, so consider any other meds you may be on, and don't overlook over-the-counter meds. Shampooing frequently with a gentle shampoo helps too, as an oily scalp often contributes to hair loss. So, my best guess at this point is to look into things that, besides Lyme, can contribute to your unwanted hair loss. By the way, Lyme has changed the texture of my scalp hair on the top & front. The sides & back remain soft & silky, but the top & front have become frizzy and unmanageable, like soft Brillo, and I'm Caucasian. Anyone have any ideas to straighten/tame it? I've tried straightening shampoos, but they don't help at all. Hugs, a Aida
Guest guest
Dear Irene, I forgot to mention: you say you have more hair loss than ever since you have been off antibiotics... well, maybe you should go back on antibiotics, at least " pulse " with them... just a thought... a Aida
Guest guest
Just my 2 cents..... I am a licensed cosmetologist but that does not account for anything when it comes to lyme and hair loss. It is EXTREMELY common w/ 'lymies' and what we all have been doing here is MSM; it helps greatly. It has also been noted (personally) as well is that my hair loss has been reduced significantly since I have been on antibiotics for 2 yrs now. I used to have clumps of hair, literally. Just a suggestion.... sue in nj

Guest guest
it is a sulphur containing supplement every health food store sells it some people react well to it, others don't people can be TH1 or TH2 dominant people who are TH2 dominant will not battle intracellular organism well. probably most chronically ill people are likely to be TH2. I have heard that MSM may make people even more TH2 dominant it definitely is something to test but slowly since it could make you sicker Fluffy > What is MSM? I have naturally curly hair and when i dont use it my hair gets really frizzy.. hope it helps patty
Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions on hair loss. I'll try the MSM and I wanted to ask a about pulsing abx? I had been on I V Rocephin daily, but because of my health insurance, was forced to cut back. I then took it 3X a week, and it seemed to work fairly well. Not as well as daily, but much, much better than none at all. Later I had to switch to another ABX. I've heard that pulsing works well for some people, and that it is a real alternative for those of us that are very sensitive to ABX, even making it possible where daily use cannot be tolerated. Irene, I hope this helps. Hugs, a Aida
Guest guest
Patty, Here are some ideas you can research on your own until you find a good doctor (could be a number of years) unless you are fortunate to have a LLMD. 1. Colloidal silver-- natural antibiotic used for many years 2. Bob Beck zappers--search on Sota Instruments 3. Hulda --cure for all diseases book CS has been helping me where antibiotics aren't, I just started zapping stuff so no news there. << I have late lyme disease approx 10 years .. recently found 1 year ago.. been on orals 8 months and still have horrible pain in legs that makes it unberable to walk during my herxs ..
