I have heard several anecdotal stories that grapeseed extract and milk

thistle both help with the hair loss from drugs.illness. Perhaps the

nutritionalist at your local health food store could direct you to a good

brand and dosing that would be worth it to try.

Dianne,

I'm not sure this will help the thinness but have you ever tried the

omega 3 cod liver oil capsules? They do help my hair. We even give one

to our shetland sheepdog each morning....vet had given us vitamins for

her and they worked but were expensive and these have the same basic

ingredients so we have been sing these for her as well (we dip in peanut

butter for her :-) so she takes it easily) I do have some repeat of

this later but my husband doesn't mind them. We get them at GNC

This isn't a quick fix Di, but there are shampoos on the market that contain

Biotin. I've used it for a few years and it really does work. I believe it

helps clear and nurture hair follicles, so that existing hair is stronger

and fuller and old follicles are reopened to hair growth. I know Nexxus has

a product called Viatress which is great. I think I even found a Tea Tree

product with biotin in it before so it worked on my scalp psoriasis and my

thinning hair. Best of luck!

Oh, and if you are a Sam's Club member, as I am, you can get Omega 3

capsules in bulk for very, very cheap. GNC is usually extremely expensive.

If you take glucosamine, B complex, or shark cartilage, you can find these

products at Sam's as well...most are even labeled if they are gluten free.

Hi Diane,

I know that Neways' hair products are pretty good - I sell them but have not

used them myself but have heard very good testimonies. The Company was

originally founded due to the success of their shampoos which helps restore

hair.

The shampoos clear away deposits and increase the oxygen flow to the scalp,

therfore, creating the right environment for the hair to beging to grow again.

The company founder was specifically looking for hair restorer for his son

and investigating the reasons behind hair loss in Cancer patients who were

being treated with chemotherapy drugs.

You can check out my web

site and if you are interested send me an email at

Most of all - Good luck and hope that you can hold your head up high with

confidence again soon.

With warmest regards

Nigel :o) (uk)

My mother has psoriatic arthritis and started taking

MSM Glucosamine. Apparently it has one side effect -

her hair has become much thicker. My sister started

taking it also because of her back and her hair has

also become much thicker.

Hi

Are you sure the hair loss is a result oflares and not thyroid? I

know my thyroid caused hair oss as well.

It sound like your ap needs to be raised or that you shoud think of

maybe the ivs as I was able to get off pred and mtx my first year

but I was taking it every day.

I am not sure what protocool you are following

I too have hair loss and it is distressing. I don't know anything that

helps with that. But I want you to know that I completely understand being

50 (54 in my case) and feeling 100. I am experiencing extreme fatigue with

the Enbrel but I hope you hang in there and find a formula that works for

you. I work full time and I come home and rest all evening then crawl to

bed. I set aside Saturday morning to rest then do what necessities I can on

Saturday afternoon. On Sunday I either rest or try to have some of my old

life activities. It is difficult but I have a burning desire to carry on.

I hope you get to feeling better so you will feel closer to 50 then 100.

Hang in there.....Cheri :-))

No, Janet, I am not on mtx, just enbrel. My rheumy started me on mega dose

of folic acid hoping that will help. They also have me taking iron now since

my blood test came back showing anemia. hopefully this will help me.

large balding area's to both sides of her head (more on the right but

both sides are getting worse daily).

If the hair is " falling out " on its own, consider biotin deficiency

[alopecia]. Try giving biotin supplement. It depletes magnesium, so

you might need to increase magnesium to avoid constipation and/or

muscle cramps.

>>She has an obsession of twirling her hair (used to be much

worse--twirled into large knots but not any more) but not in the

affected area's. The super nu thera is the only thing new--could this

be the cause?

In my family, twirling hair typically means yeast. B6 can aggravate

yeast issues. Try increasing your yeast protocol, see if that helps.

Lots of good B vitamins, the ones with the coenzyme forms included. Make sure

all the B's are their including choline, PABA and inositol. Protein.

Would chelating have anything to do with hair loss? What minerals,

supplements or hormones might be needed?

Hair loss can also be a sign of thyroid hormone levels being too low.

Biotin works for my kids. It depletes magnesium tho, so be sure to

give it with magnesium. But it thickened up the hair of two of my

kids, stopped hair loss for one kid, and removed a sebborhea condition

for myself.

It could also be a food or supplement that isn't being tolerated. My

hair starts to fall out in clumps if I eat soy or wheat on a regular

basis.

I have severe hair loss for unknown reasons, though they are pretty

sure it is not from meds. In fact, now I'm off prednisone completely,

it has gotten worse! My dermatologist prescribed a cortisone lotion,

which has helped it grow back faster, but it is still missing in

patches. Good luck.

Hi Bonnie:

Hair thinning can be a real pain with the medications

we have to take - for me, I think the Mtx is the main

culprit - causing a lot of thinning along the sides

up top - not pretty - and seeing my hair is fine and

light blonde it is pretty obvious if I am not careful

how I comb it. As if the RA/Fibro were not enough

lol. Anyway, I did try Nioxin shampoo and conditioner

(I got them from my hairdresser) and they did make my

hair appear fuller and in much better condition. I

used them for about 2 months and I now use them about

once a week. The rest of the time I use Dove - the

one for extra volume. I have to say my hair was

pretty dry, limp and did not feel good before the

Nioxin and that really helped, so you might want to

give it a try.
