Guest guest
Sorry to butt in, but hair loss sounds like an adrenal or thyroid issue. LDN may not change that, but it does seem to increase hair growth in a lot of people. I've been on LDN for over 4 years. I've probably been hypoT for 30 years...I just didn't know it. All tests were in range. Started thyroid treatments 2 1/2 years ago. I just now found a doc that will think outside the box. Point is...I should be bald given how much hair I lose, but there has been NO noticeable difference. Guest guest
Hi ,LDN is not like chemotherapy for cancer. Guest guest
Hi Dudley, Thnak you for your quick answers ! I want to start with LDN because I want to loss weight. But my doctor in Hollans is not familiar with it and he doesn't want to prescribe LDN. Is there a way to obtain LDN without visiting a doctor ? I hope you can help me. Guest guest
Hi ,LDN may or may not help you lose weight. Some people taking LDN report a weight gain. Guest guest
- I think we've all dealt with hair loss. My hair was falling out terribly before explant. After explant, it took about 2 months for it to stop falling out. I also cut my hair shorter (as did a few others,) which seemed to help quite a bit. Guest guest
Hi Dede- I miss you too!! Thanks for the compliment on my hair. I like it short too! In fact, I'm hoping to go even shorter next time! I haven't been posting much lately...but I have been trying my best to at least keep up on reading the posts. I have been doing pretty good, about the same as always...better then before explant but still not completely back to my old self. I still require quite a bit of sleep to be able to function and not fall asleep at work, and I still get fatigued easily. Today I am cleaning my house and I have to take a lot of breaks to do so...I used to be able to go go go....not anymore though! Hopefully, one day I'll get my old energy level back! The website is definitely coming along. Beth's husband has been working on it over his weekends. He got all of the info up last weekend, and this weekend he is working on some design stuff. Once all of that is done, I'll need to work on formatting some of the information better. Once that is done...we'll be able to go live! It is a lot of work to put up a website, and we don't want it to go live until we are confident everything looks good. Hopefully, that'll be in the 2 weeks or so. I promise you guys will be the first to know when it is live. I'm keeping you and your dad in my prayers. Much Love, Krista > > Krista ~ > Hello Girl ~ How are you doing? I just love > your hair ! Guest guest
Two women I know both had very straight hair before they lost it due to chemo for cancer. When their hair grew back, they both had curly hair. One's hair was not only curly, but baby-fine rather than coarse like it was before. Weird, isn't it? :-) Patty In a message dated 7/26/2008 10:35:16 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, bobbiejack2@... writes: the hair growing back is now curly/wavy. Guest guest
During the past year I have taken lots of prednisone and mesalamine- type drugs for a very long flare of Crohn's. Both prednisone and mesalamine can have hair loss as a side effect, and malnutrition caused by weight loss related to Crohn's only adds to it. My hair did get thinner and the ends tend to break so it doesn't grow long. The funny thing is that the hair growing back is now curly/wavy. I always had very straight hair but now wonderful waves - always wished I had curly hair! It's a tough way to get my wish! Has this happened to anyone else? Guest guest
Alopecia is an autoimmune disease in which your hair falls out in circles, clumps at a time, until it's all gone (all over your body), and it can reverse itself and regrow....no one knows why. There's no published " cure " , but prednisone is a drug they prescribe to treat it, so isn't it funny that it also causes hair loss??? I've heard/seen several people who after regrowth from chemo say that their hair is now curly and darker. wierd! I have 2 friends with MS, is the consensus here that LDN works?? Thanks, Donna > > During the past year I have taken lots of prednisone and mesalamine- > type drugs for a very long flare of Crohn's. Guest guest
Hi Kirstin, I haven't had that problem but I have recently found out that I have thyroid issues. One symptom of thyroid issues is hair loss. This web page below is from a thyroid site but includes other potential causes of hair loss. Thought it might give you some ideas. http://thyroid.about.com/cs/symptomsproblems/a/hairloss.htm Jane On Thu, 11 Sep 2008, kirstin_whitaker wrote: > i have systemic candida/leaky gut and have been on the body ecology > diet for 10 months. my hair has been falling out for months and is > getting worse. it is to the point that if i don't figure this out it > will be very noticeable soon. somebody mentioned the idea that maybe > zinc supplements may help, but so far i have seen no improvement. i'm > wondering if anyone out there has been in the same situation and has > any advice to offer. thanks so much. > > > > > ------------------------------------ > >
Guest guest
Biotin is another vitamin supplement that might help. My son saw a nutritionist at one point and that was one of the vitamins he was short on, so I read up about it a bit. It is in egg yolks, beans and nuts, none of which he can eat. (Though, cauliflower is another one and he does have that once or twice a week.) Amazingly, it contributes to the breakdown of carbohydrates, proper digestion of fats and helps your skin and hair to be healthy. Certainly things my son has problems with (minus the hair). Just thought I’d throw that one out! I hope you can figure out a solution soon! Guest guest
Hi Kirsten, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. I too am dealing with yeast overgrowth - it's a bummer. I was dealing with hair loss too, but mine was b/c of postpartum, lol, but I still hated it! Anyway, I just wanted to say, I would definitely check on your thyroid/adrenal function. I have read somewhere (can't remember where but it may have been www.freefromcandida.com) that yeast will eventually start causing your thyroids/adrenals to fail. Also, I would recommend having a saliva test done instead of or in addition to bloodwork. That's just my .o2 cents. HTH! Guest guest
Kirstin, I would also encourage you to get your thyroid checked. Be sure to educate yourself some first (www.stopthethyroidmadness.com). I was losing my hair just like you describe for quite a while and it wasn't until I 9 months after I became very sick and after seeing numerous doctors, that an online physicians group suggested I revisit the thyroid issue and insist that my MD check for antibodies (TPO). It turned out that my TPO level as over 250 and the normal level was 30 or less. Thyroid disorders are very common and even more commonly misdiagnosed. The adrenals play an important role as well, especially for those women of us who have tried to be superwomen (working and raising children). Lee has an excellent book called " What Your Doctor Never Told You about Perimenopause. " This is where I first learned about thyroid disorders. Shomon also has several good books. She diagnosed herself and is now a patient advocate. She has a newsletter that is quite informative. Good luck! Sara
