Guest guest
I have concerns about hair loss myself, but I am more concerned about feeling better again. I still have an almost full head of hair at 48, and I expect to see increased thinning after I start TRT. You can live with it and simply shave your head when/if the time comes, or you can drive yourself nuts and spend yourself broke trying dozens of supplements and shampoos. Myself I am not into that, nor do I wish to follow some regimen where I need to only eat this food or that food 100% of the time. I am not obsessive/compulsive at this time and don't wish to become that way. My personal opinion says that if there was a miracle shampoo or topical treatment that worked,.....the person that invented it would be retired and living in the islands somewhere with a net worth of a billion plus. Some of this stuff might slow it down a bit, but if you are going to lose it, you're gonna lose it. I certainly would not use propecia myself but that's up to you. > > Hair loss is a big deal with me. I am on HRT at 2ml every 10 days. > Is there something on the market that I caan take that will help save the hair. Have been on it for a while now and the hair on my head seems to be thinning out. Sence being on HRT I now have a very hairy chest, belly, legs, and hair growing on my back. I neve had this much hair, but I do not want to lose the hair on my head. > Perscription drugs might be the ticket, but was wondering if you guys knew of something over the counter to take oraly. >
Guest guest
Well said marc I had my hair until I was 58 then on a BP med it started to fall out I just thought it was my TRT doing this until the Dr. seen this and told me to stop the med it was a side effect of it. Today I just get a buzz cut at my age 66 it looks better then trying to make it look longer. Guest guest
Phil,....most folks don't know all the meds that can make you lose your hair. I used to be like this member, and worry about my hair bigtime. The slightest loss would get me all worked up. It has actually held up quite well, and MUCH better than I expected. All I am saying concerning myself is that I have reached a point in life to where I feel so bad, that my hair is the least of my concerns. I will join you with a buzz cut if mine falls out! Heck,....I often wear a ball cap anyway when I am outside. No big thing to me anymore. > > > > > > Hair loss is a big deal with me. Guest guest
Hi Everybody ~ Speaking of hair loss - in 2003 I was diagnosed with RA and my pcp put me on mtx and 15 mg of prednisone. The next thing I knew, my hair was falling out in great bunches. We finally tracked it down to the mtx. My rheumy took me off the prednisone very slowly and changed my prescription to Arava -which also made me ill. I am now on Enbrel and Tylenol and Celebrex, and my RA is under control. The hair loss seems to be permanent and I'm now toying with the idea of getting a wig or shaving everything off. Katriina

Guest guest
Buhner recommends implementing collagen support as part of the protocol, and one thing he has recommended for this is a product called BioSil (interview, April 2010; " Public Health Alert " ,Vol. 5,Issue 4) While looking for this product on Amazon, I saw that many of the reviewers mentioned that they had bought it for hair and nails and that it worked! Several (if the reviews are to be bel.) said that their hair thickened considerably. I wonder if the hormonal issues Lyme can cause with the thyroid is responsible for the hair problem. I have it also. Maybe this could help? Good luck. > > Anything I can do for hair loss while going through this? I'm male, so my situation my not be representative But anyway ... for me hairloss (and itchy scalp) started within weeks after tick byte, at the same time my EM appeared. It has gone on ever since. I tried all Buhners suggestions and a few others like B12, and nothing helps. Didn't try seaweed except for a short time; good idea though. Not really surprising that supplements didn't help: my hair loss is purely on the scalp: I lost about 80% of my hair there (it is 'thinning'). I also have increased hair loss on the rest of my body, but it all grows back quickly, so I don't see any change there. This is a clear indication that the hair loss (on the scalp) is not caused by lack of certain supplements etc. Dermatologist says it is 'age' and nothing abnormal (like all the strange problems caused by lyme). Strange that my twin brother doesn't have all these problems, but then you shouldn't ask these ducks complicated questions My guess is that the problem is caused by systemic stress, to the immune system (thyroid?) etc. Recent research traces some types os systemic hair loss to stress in the gut, so food (or problems with processing / detox of certain foods) might play a role. Of course coinfections could also upset your gut and/or immune system.
Guest guest
knotweed, i imagine its like you say..not lack of supplements because all my blood work comes back good i imagine it is the lyme or coinfections...my scalp has also itched like crazy since i have had this...i quit abx two weeks ago and noticed even more hair loss, but i just can't be on abx they where messing me up with my teeth turning black, gi issues and yeast/thrush and that was only after 2 months on. The only abx that seemed to make me herx and then see some results was flagyl,,i wonder if i only took this one a few days a week if it would be better than all three abx at once...need to ask my doc, but the llmd here in texas is very limited in knowledge and i pretty much have doctored myself... > > > > Anything I can do for hair loss while going through this? Guest guest
I had heard thyroid and stress causes hair loss. And that sometimes there is a delay between the event and the hair actually falling out. Since I have added thyroid meds, Omega 3's (3/d) and biotin/silica my hair has all but stopped falling out. Guest guest
I think my hair loss was related to my adrenal exhaustion (due to Hormone depletion) and maybe candida. I stopped losing hair once these two things improved, but I haven't really gained any back. Best, Connie RE: [ ] Re: Hair Loss I had heard thyroid and stress causes hair loss. Guest guest
> > i quit abx two weeks ago and noticed even more hair loss, yes, I heard that before. Normally hair that falls out has been dead for 2-3 months, so I doubt this reaction says much. I didn't notice much difference from ABX (or herbs) on the hair loss or itching. My impression is that the itching comes from tiny 'grains' (some people refer to it as 'sand in my hair'), which supposedly is small clumps of dead skin material that is expelled from deeper inside the skin through small pores. It itches because these small 'grains' often get stuck in the top layer of the skin. Maybe it is a defense mechamism from the skin/connective tissue? > The only abx that seemed to make me herx and then see some results was flagyl,,i wonder if i only took this one a few days a week if it would be better than all three abx at once Flagyl is special, it is used to kill the cysts. But this is mostly theory. I'm guessing it works by damaging Borrelia DNA, and possibly activating the Bb prophage which kills the Borrelia (possibly in one massive 'chain-reaction' within the tissue). Apart from that, flagyl possibly kills some other types of bugs, so you never know if that is why 'it is working'. Flagyl could also damage your own DNA. The usual advice is not to use it too long, e.g. 10 days maximum. I'm guessing that if you take it one week per month, it is just as effective as continuously. But I would leave that decision to your doctor.

Difficult to say if the stress causes the thyroid issues, or the other way round ...

As a result, it is difficult to say if you are really suffering from this or if there is another issue. In a recent TV show a large percentage (I think it was over 50%) of Germans had too much heavy metals in their hairs, including naughty ones like Cadmium, Mercury and Uranium (and that was before the Fukushima disaster ...). Guest guest
Hello, Gut problems are common to many of us. Often there is protozoa involvement. Some of the herbs that i take (we choose via muscle testing) are barberry root (powdered capsules), amazon a-p (from rain-tree.com), meadowsweet (very soothing and healing to the digestive tract), marshmallow, as Jay says, slippery elm, probiotics, etc. Many people find that dairy, wheat, acidic foods, sugar, etc. exacerbates the gut challenges. Charcoal is sometimes helpful for gas, bloating, pain, especially when taken with plenty of water. ease and peace, yarrow > > > > > > > > > Are gut problems typical in Lyme/Co Infection Disease? > > > Anything you can suggest to tame it? > > > > yes, I think this is very common.
