Guest guest
HI Doc, and everyone, I was on treatment for a year.I cleared the virus so far and think it is gone forever:) I have resumed a normal life of work, play, and of course living each day to the fullest. I count all my blessings I received daily. One of the greatest help I had while on treatment was having you all hear to listen to me, I will never forget your undying attention and care that poured out from you all. Guest guest
Sounds like some great ideas. I see from your email that you must be from Wisconsin. I am from Green Bay. -dz-Kay <wschulz1@...> wrote: I couldn't take any of the anti-depressants so I used little 'calming' times. Read books and magazines which didn't require much in the way of thinking skills i.e. interior decorating, Bon Appitite, short humorous stuff. Wrote all kinds of drivel into a whole bunch of journals, for the sole purpose of getting it off my chest. The best for me was having the space I could claim for just me. I even decorated the room in pink to discourage my son and husband from using it LOL. Now I've repainted and redecorated with stuff I already had (I'm pretty low income) but it gave me something to do that took my mind off my troubles, while keeping the "it's mine theme".Now I have that wedding to keep me occupied.I got serious when I realized my daydreams were starting to include suicide. I did get professional help! That's when I started to actually plan my little retreats from daily life by using my guest room as a sanctuary. Big rule in my house is that if I say I need that room there is no debate. I told my husband and son that psychosis could be a side effect of the PegIntron, so unless they wanted to take a chance on waking up in a real life Alfred Hitchcock type situation it would be best all around to let me be when I asked. Hmmmmmm, worked like a charm, <snicker, snidker> Hey, idle threats can work! My psychologist, who is one very cool woman, helped me set the guys up to respond the way I wanted them to w/o running away in fear. I hope I haven't offended anyone with my confession of manipulation, but it still puts a smile on my face. So I hope I have given you some ideas, and encouragement. Guest guest
You're doing just fine. We're here to talk about everything going on, good or bad. Nobody is a pain in the butt. If you're drinking enough water, you're wearing out a path on the rug back and forth to the bathroom, so that's normal. I had trouble with my sleep throughout treatment and I believe some of the sleeping meds affected my dreaming, too. Keep on doing it! -dz-Lynne Dunham <lynne@...> wrote: Just depressed and nightmares, but not the same as last weekend. I was depressed last week end though. Guest guest
We've been teetering on the zero mark. It got a little above today, it's a balmy 15, but it's back below zero with wind chill warnings for tomorrow morning. I get to go now and then to Packer games. I am only 3 blocks from the stadium. I signed up for the tickets they put aside for Brown County residents when they built the new stadium. It's a lottery and I got 4 tickets this year (at $50 a pop). Otherwise I find them now and then from friends with season tickets. I refuse to pay scalpers rates.Kay <wschulz1@...> wrote: > Sounds like some great ideas. Guest guest
Hang in there Lynne...we're all here for you. I'm glad you're thinking good thoughts. The short term memory thing is a pain...Shane suffers, too. I think I may have " sympathy loss of memory " , too. It is so hard sometimes to stay strong. His sides are getting so much easier, or maybe he's just getting better at dealing with them. As for staying busy, do you read? I love to read...anything and everything I can get my hands on. I have a ton of books that I was going to take up to the book trader, but if you'd like I'd be more than happy to send you some to keep you busy. It seems like any free time I have now I've been sticking my head in a book...it's nice to live in someone else's world for a little while. I'm reading Fern 's Texas saga (again) right now, but I'd be more than happy to make a list of what I have. My mom gets those silly Harlequin Intrigues every month and they are real easy reading...she has a TON if your interested. Keep positive and think happy thoughts. Guest guest
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I usually call someone and start talking about anything to keep my mind busy. Things I found kept me occupied before are not of the same interest. I love to read, and bought a bunch of books before treatment. But my eyes have been hit by the treatments, and staying focus is hard. Sometimes I just close my eyes and listen to TV. I find I boo around the house doing different stuff and then rest. But my mind is in constant motion. Did see Doc for about 2 minutes today and said my viral load look great. So things are looking up in that department. But I did ask him if I could stop treatments. Course he said no. [ ] Re: Hi all Hang in there Lynne...we're all here for you. I'm glad you're thinking good thoughts. The short term memory thing is a pain...Shane suffers, too. Guest guest
Reading books really helped me when I was up in the middle of the night. If my eyes were a little out of focus, that was even better, I got tired sooner.. J Hang in there. I know when I tested undetectable at 6 mos, I was sure tempted to quit treatment, but I just thought about how pissed off I would be if it came back because I quit before I had really wiped the virus out. Keep kicking ass, you got that dragon’s number! -dz- RE: [ ] Re: Hi all Thanks for the words of encouragement. I usually call someone and start talking about anything to keep my mind busy. Guest guest
Rosemary, I'm so glad to see you feeling some better! I've taken amitriptylene before for depression. My doctor wanted me to take it again to help with sleep because I have delayed sleep phase syndrome too. But I'm taking melatonin now for that. Hope you have many good days! in Va. ----- thanks you guys, keli, debba, linda, snow, martin and to everyone in this site , im glad i found you , love reading your e-mails , thanks for your thoughts & prayers ,you guys brought tears to my eyes and this time were happy tears , today is a good day it was hot and sunny but short lived its going to rain again,i should become a weather woman cause i sure do know when it's going to rain of coarse we all can do that job. lol. martin love the name it's also my maiden name. linda i too have fibro " it sucks " and i take 30mg amitriptyline to help me sleep , sleep does help to ease off the pain but in no way does it take it away, im in bed most nights by 9pm so this desease slowly takes over your life . my doc wanted to put me on disability but i don't want to do that yet , im afraid too, cause when you give up its gone and you don't get it back. but i know someday i will have too maybe sooner then i think, but for now it can't have me .lol .will must go. thanks again love rosemary
Guest guest
Phew! OK, at the moment I am on Duragesic 100mcg patches every 72 hours, Neurontin 3000mg a day, Dilantin 400 mg a day, Plaquenil 200 mg twice a day, Vicoden 5/500 as needed. I think that I am maxed out for the most part on my Neurontin. I don't know what there is left to do to help my pain in my back. I am so bitchy when I hurt and I just hate it. I have 7 year old twins, and a 4 year old. Then, we raise German Shepherds, so I have 9 Shepherds that I am trying to keep up with training on. The good part about the dogs, is that I can train my own service dog. I have a 6 month old black and silver female shepherd that I am training as my personal service dog. She loves going to the stores with me. I have an appointment with an attorney on Tuesday afternoon to discuss sueing the neurosurgoen that did my surgery, his nurse practitioner and the hospital staff on that supposed neuro-psych unit that treated me like crap. Hell, I was just there to warm a bed up!! I didn't get my bed linen changed one time while I was in there, and the nursing staff complained every time that my PCA would alarm and they would have to change my morphine container in the PCA. When I went for my initial check up with the surgeon, he asked me " have you had any other episodes of falling? " I said " you mean, have I thrown myself down on the floor anymore?!! " He pointed his finger in my face and said " I had nothing to do with that! " . Oh, another thing. The whole time that I was a patient in the hospital, I kept asking to see my chart. I was always told by nursing staff that I needed a docors order!!!!! So, now, I have to pay for my chart, when I legally had the right to see it when I was in the hospital. Things are just a big mess. Has anyone here ever sued for malpractice or neglect before?? If the lawyer will take it on, I am going to sue them. I also told my regular doc that " I'll be damned if I will lose the function in my right leg like I have in my left. " So, as you can see, I am a bit ticked off about the whole situation, but I am now just very frustrated, especially about the chronic severe pain that I have. Now that you all have heard about some of what I have been through, it will be nice to hear from everyone else. Thanks for listening to my griping. Guest guest
I think what you went through was horrible. What State do you live in? Way back in the hospital when you fell (the nurse left) I think staff and the hospital tried to cover for the nurse abandoning you in the washroom and hence you fell and injured yourself. Do you know if your doctor had written orders that you could get out of bed and go to the bathroom? Also I find it very strange that a psychiatrist did not come in to examine you before -- the security guards abducted you the way they did. From what you wrote it sounds like the hospital breached the standard of care when they seemed to try to cover for the nurse -- and especially since they transferred you to a psychiatric ward on an involuntary basis and did not provide you the medical care and freedom you should have received. I know there are federal and state mental health laws that give patients admitted to psychiatric wards rights -- I would get a copy of those rights as they probably violated those too. Also the hospital has a list of rights that a patient on the medical and surgical floors are entitled to. As far as an attorney -- I think as long as the attorney will profit from the suit you might find one willing to help you --- also I think the amount of money you can actually sue for has to be contingent on your actual monetary damages. Then remember once you sue I hear that doctors and hospitals are leary about having you as a patient. So think about where you will get quality health care in the future. If the case does not go to court -- I would at least file a complaint with the Federal Department of Health and Human Services that has a department that oversees Hospitals, Psychiatric Wards, and regular Medical and Surgical Wards. I would also file a complaint with the State Mental Health Department, State Licensing Board, and State Board of Quality Assurance for the Doctors involved (including Psychiatrist and Psychiatric staff), Nurse, and Hospital - - Medicare (even if you do not have Medicare so as to alert Medicare to what goes on in this hospital) I am so sorry for what you went through. > > Phew! Guest guest
Hey Patti, Welcome. It sounds to me as if you are right on schedule. Three weeks is when we all hit that wall: is this EVER going to get better? I call three weeks and one day the magic time. I woke up and it was better. Try to gauge your recovery by comparing this Monday to last Monday, and you will be able to tell the difference. Hang in, Marge Hi, My name is Patti and I had a total knee replacement 3 weeks ago and am still in a lot of pain. I had a partial knee replacement last August and a lateral release in November, all on the same knee. This makes a total of 7 surgeries on this knee. I had a skiing accident when I was 19 and I am only 36 now. My question to you all is this. Is it normal to be in this amount of pain 3 weeks out?? I guess I thought I would be feeling a lot better than this by now. I am still waking up at nite crying in pain. I can also feel any and all weather changes. Am I expcething too much? I am going to therapy 3 times a week and everyone keeps telling me to be patient that I am doing great, but I sure don't feel like I am. I feel like I am in total hel..... Thanks for you input. Guest guest
Hi Patti, Don't be brave - control your pain. This is something that I didn't do, and have lived to regret it. Please take enough medication to control that pain. If what you have isn't strong enough talk to your doctor. It took a VETINARIAN to tell me off and get me to go to a doctor about my pain levels. I have made much more progress since I have been taking enough pain meds. And ----- for the last week I have needed NO medication. That is 6 months post op. I went for 3 months really struggling with pain. Pain creates its own pain - the vet told me the longer you leave it the harder it will be to get under control.
