Hi WW and welcome to the group. I also have a tough time of things with sleeping

at night. We have a soft-sided water bed which has been better on relieving my

pressure point pain, but I still am not able to sleep through the night without

pain. Is Plaquenil the only RA med you're taking? Talk with your Rheumy or your

PC. There are good meds out there that will help to ease your pain and help you

to get a good night's sleep.

Be persistent - I'm going in to my PC baited for bear - I need to sleep. Also

mention this to your Rheumy - Plaquenil may not be enough. Don't worry about

complaining - that's what we're all here for - to support one another. I am

grateful for the internet as well. We are NOT alone.....Doreen :)

Hi Folks,

I am new to the group, have not listed in quite a while, I am only finishing up

my first year with this RA, have it in my hands, fingers wrists, elbows and

occasionally knees, ankles and God forbid the toes.

Along with the pain at night, I can't seem to sleep. I am on Plaquenil (I guess

the first step in this roller coaster ride), and I went out and purchased a

really good mattress about 6 months ago. I wake up from discomfort/pain about

4-5 times a night, and have a terrible time trying to get to sleep to begin

with.

Anyone have any advice? I am taking Arthritis strength Acetaminophen every

night before bed (650mg)- I am allergic to most other OTC drugs.

Hate to complain -- and I agree with another poster who had the line, " I may

not look sick.... " I'll have to use that one.

Thank God for the Internet, I don't feel so alone...

Hi Weaver Woman,

I have also had major sleep disturbances. I ended up having a sleep study done

a few months ago, and the neurologist I saw has been able to help me find a few

plans of attack to get my sleeping and fatigue under control.

If you haven't tried an OTC supplement like melatonin, it is a good starting

point. From there, I moved to Ambien CR, which is good, but I don't like to

take it too frequently. I have found that upping my activity level during the

day, and staying busy into the evening hours, has done the most for helping me

get restful sleep at night. That and getting some of my dogs out of the bed!

We have five, but only two quiet ones are now allowed to sleep in bed.

Good luck and keep us posted -
