Guest guest
Bill, you are not alone with that experience. I seem to have a similar reaction, which ranges from bad to worse, with every topical with every topical that I have tried on may face. Sorry to hear that you may have the same problem. It is frustrating that steps taken to " help " the rosacea (like applying topical medicines to your face) make the problem worse. Guest guest
It seems that a lot of us who have rosacea also suffer from seb. dermatitis.I was wondering if anyone has found a way to deal with S.D. effectively? The doc's have given me a 1% hydrocortisone cream which scares me because of what I have heard about cortisone and rosacea. I have not found a sunscreen that does'nt effect my rosacea, I would appreciate if someone could recommend one.I use a product called Spectro-Gel to wash my face, I don't know if it is available in the U.S. or not since I live in Canada. It works quite well and is not too drying. If you have any other good facial cleansing products please let me know. Have a good weekend everyone, Cory ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
Original Article: /list/rosacea-support/?start=1806 ___________________________________________________________________________ As a teenager and young adult (before rosacea ever reared its ugly head) I suffered from terrible seb. dermatitis (scalp, eyebrows, side of nose) The lotions and medicated shampoos my doctor gave me didn't help at all, so I just kept trying lots of different shampoos. Nothing worked until I tried Selsun Blue. I used it every single day (a pain since I had very long hair at the time) After a few weeks, the sebderm disappeared completely. I have never dared to stop using it, figuring it was some sort of " magic formula " for me. The only conditioner I can use is jojoba (which seems to remove any residue that provokes irritation) Two of my children also have sebderm. Until they accepted the daily shampoos, it wouldn't go away. My daughter actually had better luck with Tegrin, though, which is similar. The key seems to be " every day. " Now I can go 2-3 days between shampoos, and hardly even remember what it was like to have the sebderm. Hope something this simple works for you. It must be a pain to have both conditions at the same time. Guest guest
Hi Esther, What does your seb/derm look like? Does it itch like crazy and flake? I read alot of posts that seem to make it hard to tell the difference between rosacea and seb/derm. With the combination of the two it makes it hard to know what topical to use when one doesnt seem to work, or make things worse. My latest disaster was with metrocreme (again!). Tried a few areas for a couple of days, fine. Put it on my entire face with moisturizer today and boy another disaster. My face is VERY red and the little bumps are multiplying.( Im also not sure how much the Accutane is contributing to this) How do you treat the two conditions when you're not quite sure which is which????? Guest guest
Ann, How did you get the seb.derm to go away on the parts that were on your face? I've been using the Selsun Blue for awhile, (I switch on and off since it seems to dry the hair out with constant use) but I dont have much of a problem with my scalp (except that I get itchy bumps along my hairline) other than it itches at times. Which conditioner do you use with jojoba in it?Im trying to find more natural products to use, both at home and at work (Im a Hairstylist). There was an interesting post on here yesterday about the effects of sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate that are in shampoos and toothpastes. I checked out the web site about it and found that sodium lauryl sulfate can cause dermititis and eye irritations if one is exposed to them for prolonged periods of time (which I am definetly exposed). I have known alot of girls that have started out in this field shampooing with shampoos that contain either one of the ingredients mentioned, and have had severe reactions on their hands and arms to the point where they had to give up the job.Needless to say, most people that are just washing their hair on a daily basis arent exposed like I am, but it is something to think about when you have seb derm or rosacea since the suds are getting on parts of your face.(even if it is for only a short period of time). We all use facial cleansing products that are on our face for a short period of time also and some make us react like crazy! Anyway, Im glad that the Selsun Blue has worked for you. I'll keep using it! Guest guest
Hi Bill, I have had good results with the Aubrey Organics product line. They use no chemicals in any of their products. They are also very helpful if you have any questions on their products. Their web site is at http://www.aubrey-organics.com/ I especially like their Primrose and Lavender Shampoo. Good luck, Charlene Re: Seb. Dermatitis >Ann, > How did you get the seb.derm to go away on the parts that were on your >face? Guest guest
Hi Ann, Thanks for the info on Selsun Blue. My Pharmacist also recommended putting the shampoo on the face for several minutes. I'll try it around the forehead just in case something goes awry ( which happens to me often!). Did you use anything else besides the Selsun Blue on your face? Im looking into the natural hair products. A member of this group,Charlene, gave me a web site for natural products: http://www.aubrey- organics.com/ , so I looked it up and it has some interesting info on it that deals with the chemicals that are in the products that we all use. There could be correlations between the products all of us have been using, or tried, and why they might react on our skin.I e-mailed them last night asking them if they have done any research on their products concerning rosacea and seb derm so Im waiting to hear from them. So today off I went again to the health food store to buy natural toothpaste (which quite a few had sodium lauryl sulfate in them!) and various other products.( they love the amount of money that I spend in there!!!!). Take care. Bill ------------------------------------------------------------------------

(The bottle says to leave on your hair 5 mins. I think) I remember it used to burn at first when my skin was inflamed, but the burning disappeared pretty fast with the daily soaks in S.Blue. I have used Vital Care Jojoba conditioner for the past 10 or so years, but I notice now they've added a couple of new igredients (aloe and ginger) So far it seems to work just as well, but I suspect they've cut back on the jojoba since it's so expensive. It also smells different. I tried a pure jojoba conditioner from a health food store, but it was gooey and left a residue. Hope you find something that works for you. Guest guest
Hello Bill, I hope that the Aubrey Organics works for you. You may also be able to find the products at your health food store. My local stores have the line. Two products they recommended were the Primrose and Lavender Shampoo and the Blue Green Algae Shampoo and conditioner for the flaky scalp. As far as moisturizers, I have tried the Mosqueta products and like them very much. Currently, I am using the Blue Green Algae Moisturizer and think I like this even better. Supposedly the protein in the Blue Green Algae is very similar to our hair and skin. Be sure that when you ask for recommendations, you are specific that it is for cea, and not simple acne. They made that mistake the first time I contacted them. Please let me know if you have any questions I can help with. Charlene Re: Seb. Dermatitis >Hi Ann, > Thanks for the info on Selsun Blue.
