Guest guest
Red roof inns take pets...no charge. Wheel chair rentals at Disney average 55 a day.(electric carts) There are off site companies that will deliver to your hotel for much less. Google Orlando and mobility carts Remeber to bring your handicap placard. There is no place better and kinder to those with liited mobility than Disney. I go a few times a year. Only an hour drive for me. Investigat the animal clinic at Disney. I have never used it but know it is there. I never fly without taking an aspirin pre flight. Be prepared to have a wonderful time... Raniolo From: Tracie <tracierae143@...> Subject: [ ] OT/ Need help, DH is trying to plan a last family vacation to Disney. Date: Monday, February 28, 2011, 1:05 PM  Hi all, I know this is off topic and I apologize for that. I need lots of advice about flying and medications with this RA and I am also an insulin dependent diabetic and I use my wheelchair a lot for big things like Disney theme parks. My DH has decided it is our last big family trip and we should plan it and go since we do not know how long I will be able to make the trip. To be honest, I am not sure about how well I will do now. We can take my wheelchair or should I rent one down there? Should we stay in the parks and use their transportation or should we stay in a cheaper hotel and rent a car? There are five of us and a dog, lol. Yes, I said dog. He is small, but I have to find a hotel that will take him because he is sooooo cute. I cannot leave him home. There isn't anyone to care for him around here. I am petrified of flying. I am on regular pain management but I will need breakthrough pain medication and how do you carry it on the plane? I am so afraid it will be taken and then I will be stuck without medications. SO, lay the advice on me. I am all ears. You can email me if you want at tracierae143A@.... Guest guest
I've never been to Disney but I have flown a dog before. What is your dogs size? Hopefully small enough that he/she can go in a carrier under your seat. I flew a dog in cargo once and will never ever do it again. I bet you'll have a wonderful time, I've heard it's a great place to visit and would love to some day. Guest guest
The parks rent electric scooters, if they are available when you arrive. You should have no problem carrying your medication through the security screening at the airport. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/editorial_1059.shtm http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/editorial_1374.shtm Becca On 2/28/2011 12:05 PM, Tracie wrote: > > Hi all, > > I know this is off topic and I apologize for that. Absolutely NO problem, especially within the U.S. Just make sure you pack all your meds in your carry on, in original containers with the proper labels. (particularly true of any controlled pain meds) Declare liquid injectable when you go through security, and you won't have to pull them out for inspection. One other thing to keep in mind is how to handle meds that must be kept cold. For domestic flights, putting them in a soft sided cooler with an ice pack is usually fine. But if you are caught in airport hang-ups due to weather or what have you (it once took me 22 hours to get from Boston to LA!!!!) an ice pack isn't going to last. So also pack a couple of heavy duty zip lock bags. That way, if the ice pack defrosts too much, you can ask the cabin crew to fill your ziplock with ice. You can keep your meds cold indefinitely this way! I travel frequently, all over the world, including developing countries and have never once had a problem. You just don't want your meds in your checked luggage where it could go astray if your luggage gets lost.
Guest guest
Hi Tracie.  I take ALL my meds in a carr on bag when flying. I also have my MTX that I inject each week. I also have my needles in a plastic box with the MTX and alcohol wipes which are in my carry on bag. I fly all the time and no problems. They scan my bag in the x-ray machine and then I get it back. If your diabetic insulin needs to be refridgerated, just take on a cooler with ice etc. There are no issues doing so. I also have several RX pain meds in the carry on too. No problems at all. I do have 2 knee replacements and a hip replacement, which do set off the alarms. They just take me aside and scan my body. I also carry a card from my surgeon statind the replacements I have. I fly alone with no problems. When I make arrangements to fly, I also have them have a wheelchair available for me in each airport in case I need it. They are very accomadating. I leave Ft Myers and I use the wheelchair and they take you right to the door of your plane. They do the same when I land In Boston and they take me right to the luggage area, get my bag etc for me. Great service!!!!! Plenty of people traveling using wheel chairs, canes, crutches etc. I came home with a cast on my leg, was in a wheelchair, and my left arm was in a sling. To go through security, they put me aside, checked my cast leg etc. and I did not have to get out of the wheel chair. They take wonderful care of us. The stewardess's took wonderful care of me. I could not open a bottle or can and they did it for me. Helped me to the ladies room etc. I could not praise them enough. I always fly Jet Blue and use the same time flights so I see them again when I travel. I also had a cane at the time too. So you can imagine my right leg in a full cast, my left arm in a sling because I broke it, and I also used my cane, plus a wheel chair. Nothing to worry about. I love flying!!!!!  I stayed inside Disney twice. I liked that I could use all the transportation in the parks, and I have also stayed in my Timeshare, renting a car etc. I think it is $12.00 a day to park, and they shuttle you to the gate. Once insdie the gate, you can pick up your rental wheel chair and off you go. The 2 times I stayed at the Polynesian, we had a pkg, all food and drinks were free, we could eat in any restrauant we wanted to, free admission to the Park at Magic Kingdom, could go to any show etc. I ate at Cinderella's castle with her, Ate in Italy in Epcot, free to go to Epcot, etc. I only like Mickey and Magic Kingdom. When I go there this year, I will drive to Disney world, stay in my Timeshare, use the bus to the Magic Kingdon, so no parking fees. I will also reserve a elec. wheel chair for myself. I could not do all that walking. If you call the park they will tell you what you want to know, what it costs etc. I also took the boat back and forth to the Park from the Polynesian. They make it easy for handicap people to enjoy the Park.  I know there are several hotels that are pet friendly for your little dog.  I hope this information helps you. Relax and enjoy your trip and have lots of fun too.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Tracie <tracierae143@...> Subject: [ ] OT/ Need help, DH is trying to plan a last family vacation to Disney.
