Guest guest
I realize that I'm probably one of a few truck drivers on this list but most of us do drive something. According to my fab Rheumy I have " very significant damage " in both hands. Last month I complained again about how my fingers hurt so bad where they meet up with my palms from my work driving. He recommended bicycling fingerless gloves. I did and they helped a little but not much. A week later our anniversary (21 yrs) came up so we abandoned the kids at home & went out to eat. My hands hurting came up in conversation. My hubby said, " Well, I need to go to Pilot so you come in with me. " Pilot is an auto/semi fuel & quickie mart that sells small parts & stuff for semi drivers. My Fabulous Man remembered seeing driving gloves there & pulled down a pair. All we could find were mens size large but my womens medium hands fit VERY nicely. They are not too loose, have plenty of padding in the palm & down the fingers, are fingerless but they cover my end knuckles & enable me to grip the steering wheel firmly without putting so much pressure on my fingers. They cost roughly $14 and only came in black. I also indulged in buying a billy-club which we call a tire-thumper. I have to do a daily pre-trip inspection which requires hitting all the tires to check for low air pressure and my hands didn't like that. After wearing them Friday....for the first time in a couple of years my hands actually felt pretty good after running 300 miles dumping blacktop material. Just wanted to pass these little jewels along!
Guest guest
That's wonderful, Dalanne! I'm going to mention it to my hubby because his hands get sore after driving around from job to job all day. Now if they would only come up with something to help my right foot. I found out I have RA in the little bones on the top of my foot and that's why its so painful to drive, so I don't go anywhere unless I absolutely have to. Not that I have a bunch of places to go, but it would be nice to be able to not have to worry about walking after driving. Or just walking - period - for that matter. A belated happy anniversary to you.....Doreen I realize that I'm probably one of a few truck drivers on this list but most of us do drive something. Guest guest
Dalanne, Congrats on 21 years, that's truly wonderful! Thanks for sharing the driving tips... I have been on 1/2 hour driving restrictions for almost 6 months now.... ugh... I live in the middle of no where, so it takes at least a 1/2 hour to get to just the very minimum places... But any more than that, and my feet and hands hurt immensely... Thanks again for sharing.
