Guest guest
Thank you for your response . I am disappointed tho. Dont know what to take for pain. My doc put me on cholesterol lowering med called baycol. Have had tummy pains and now muscle pains since taking it. Tried lipitor, but that did not work out for me either. What to do, what to do. My cholesterol is over 300 and I follow low chol diet. Doc thinks getting my cholesterol in check will improve liver function. Guest guest
Hi J.. I take 2000 mg of Garlic a day to lower my cholesterol. In the past 2 months since I have started taking this my cholesterol has been lowered from 360 to 290. I also follow a low cholesterol diet. I also cook with a lot of garlic but then I am Italian and love garlic. My Cardiologist and GI doctor both want to keep me off as many prescribed medications as they can. I don't know if this is helpful or not. Hope it is. Have a good day, and remember...Laughter is the music of a happy heart, love is it's sustenance. Sooooo...laugh a lot, it is healing. I buy all my herbs and vitamins at GNC. I have no side effects from any of the herbs. Some of them I have to take with milk or I get indigestion. But other then that I am fine. But I would ask my doctor first. He He He, no one backs away from me... Have a good day, and remember...Laughter is the music of a happy heart, love is it's sustenance. Guest guest
, I'm not sure what we can take for pain either, I'll try to check it out. Have you tried to find anything about it at the Hepatitis Central.com site? I'll go look myself after I've finished my mail... (AIH)

Guest guest
Joan, I love garlic too, I am not Italian tho! Do you take garlic in a pill form and what kind is best. Is it better to take a pill or eat it raw or cooked or what. This is a very interesting idea. Also my cholesterol hovers around 290 even tho I am on a very low fat diet, low cholesterol etc. Lynn FOXDIANA@... wrote: > From: FOXDIANA@... > > Hi J.. > > I take 2000 mg of Garlic a day to lower my cholesterol. Guest guest
, I wanted to take Zocor for high cholesterol but my doctor nixed it. My husband just started on Lipitor and his cardiologist insists on monthly LFT tests! This confirmed my understanding that cholesterol lowering drugs can be harmful for people with liver disease. No wonder you've had negative reactions. Something to consider: Numerous times over the past year, both me and my husband have been prescribed drugs that are absolutely contraindicated by medical conditions other than the one the drug is prescribed for. Once the pharmacy's computer picked up the contraindication. When I had an acute attack of giant hives last year the Dermatologist my Hepatologist sent me to wanted to prescribe a drug my Hepatologist told me I absolutely could not take. Now, when my Hepatologist refers me to a specialist, he calls the specialist and they have an agreement that they will prescribe no drugs without checking with him first. Even though I have consistently elevated cholesterol and incidentally, though I wasn't overweight, my cholesterol started rising before I was diagnosed with AIH and started taking Prednisone. However, mine is never alarmingly 'm not overweight my chnsvbvbes po[a[tologds liirtiraoop[dr Date: Tue, 07 Sep 1999 16:00:23 PDT From: " susan johnson " <shireen42@...> Subject: Re: Thank you for your response . However, mine is never alarmingly elevated though some people in this group have a serious cholesterol problem. I wonder how they deal with that? I'd be very cautious about taking any cholesterol lowering drugs without first finding out whether it's acceptable for people with liver disease. It's my understanding that liver disease causes high cholesterol, not that high cholesterol causes liver disease. Your doctor's opinion is interesting. Guest guest
Well, Hate to say this, but they were popular on the streets even in my day 20 years ago. LOL They try to give me them now, but refuse to take them! I may have a low tolorence, but they blow my mind and afterwards because of all my stomach and acid reflux probs. I have horrible cramps and sides. We unfortunately are perscribed alot of things to help our sides that can be addictive and of course all are bad for the liver. Just some worse than others. I just try to get all the info I can and make a rational decision about what I choose to take and if it will be hard for me to go off of them later. Darvocet is one I choose not to take.. But everyone's system and addictions are different. I take Klonopin, of wich is also Highly addictive, but I refuse to take the amount they want to prescribe to me. They would like to trible the dosage, but I only take 1mg at bedtime. It would be nice to not have so much pain to need any of these medications. But we have to weigh the balance of pain verses, liver, verses addiction and try to come up with a rational compromise. And that is very difficult to do! But it is life.....Just my 2 cents worth. Hugs and prayers to all...Dana in PA I had no idea about that. [darvocet]
