Guest guest
I woke up around 3am yesterday morning with the Mack-Daddy of sore throats. It quickly spread to my head and I feel like I have the biggest head that ever lived!! So far, I don't feel anything more than a little tightness in my chest, but my head is so plugged and my nose is running a marathon. With all the meds we take for our RA and/or FMS, how in the world do we handle the common cold? Doreen
Guest guest
I live in fear of the common cold. My Rheumatolist recommened not taking my meds if I have to deal with a cold. She said not to use anything stronger than over the counter Tylonol products. I thought it was weird, having to make such choices, but I am not telling you what do do because all of our treatments are so different, just sharing what I what I was told. I'd suggest a phone call if it's possible. Like a lot of things with RA, the slightest things can become a big issue. Feel better. Guest guest
RA and the cold, fear, you bet, I am more conscious now of coming in contact with germs. I stay away from sick looking people, ones displaying signs of illness. And keep hand sanitizer in my pocket at all times, germs are every where, and they enter the body either by mouth or nasal passage mostly, so wash those hands and sanitize often. Guest guest
I have a two year old grandson so it's hopeless. Thus far when anyone gets sick it's HIS fault. I try to stay away from them when they are in the " contagious " stage but that's kind of hopeless too. I was going to get a restraining order but he's just so darn cute (plus I don't want the Judge givin' me " that " look again). Stan, Seattle, Rain --------- Re: [ ] What do you do??? Guest guest
Poor Stan. I have a 7 year old and a 2 year old. My 7 year old is a social butterfly, plus we have all the 'kid accoutrements' like trampoline, pool, air hockey.so this is where the kids hang out. And as you pointed out. I TOUCH people for a living. But yes, kids are germ magnets. Did I share Glow Germ with everyone? Glow Germ comes with a black light. You rub it over your hands after you wash them, hold your hands under the black light and you can see the germs left on your hands.(Then you wash again-DUH!) It's gross, but kind of cool. I always miss my nail beds. Seriously, I use it and I highly recommend it to those of you on immune-suppression drugs and your families. It's not horribly pricey and a lot of places online run a 2-for-1 sale. I even bought some for my daughter's first grade class and now all the teachers want it! G. Guest guest
Hi Doreen: I was so sorry to read that you are sick. I hate to be so filled up like that with a cold. They are miserable, to say the least. I do hope you can take something to give you some relief. I take 2 Benedryl for a stuffed head. It works so good for me. Take care of yourself, have lots of Chicken soup, and lots of rest. I hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Hi again Doreen: I am prone to U.R.I. so the minute I feel sick, sore throat, cough, etc. I see my P.C. right away. If I don't jump on an anti-biotic right away, I get Bronchitis, then Pneumonia. He usually gives me an RX for the Z - Pack, and that takes care of the infection. I have learned to call for an appt. right away. I know our immune system is not good, therefore I take all precaustions with my health. Any infection seems to set off my Asthama, which I never have unless I get an U.R.I. I hope your RA is quiet, and that you feel better soon. Wishing you pain free days, and God Bless you. Guest guest
Oh poor Stan, he really has it rough, but he is smart enough to be sincerely grateful he didn't have to face RA while trying to raise a family. I have given it a lot thought, having two boys and a daughter, and I really just can't imagine how I could have done it. And I really can't put into words the admiration I feel for you, and everyone, who has those kind responsibilities while dealing with all these RA issues. In my book, you guys are the real heroes. Oh, and I promise to wash my hands (just another THING I have to put up with, when will it even end! lol). Guest guest
Stan, Kids or no kids to deal with it still sucks. Therefore you get to be in the " poor me " catagory with me.
