Guest guest
Hi everybody! I haven't posted for a long while but I read all the posts. I was diagnosed 8 months ago and since starting prednisolone, and soon after sulfasalazine, I am lucky to have my mobile pain-free self back (touch wood). Although I am still on prednisolone, but tapering off now to .25mg every other day. I could have stopped it 4 months ago, but I had to undergo 5-1/2 weeks of radiotherapy for a benign brain tumour so I had to up it again during treatment to cope with the effects of radiation. Anyway, I am feeling all fine now, with main complaint just loss of taste. Back to RA, I want to share something I learned from a seminar for RA patients provided by my local hospital team (doctors, nurses, physical therapy, etc). One of the specialists mentioned that there were some studies linking the proteus bug (a bug that clings to the kidneys) to RA. The theory is that this bug resembles the structure of the synovium (I think) in the joints and the immune attacking the bug also triggers attacks on the joints! He also said that this bug is easily eradicated by cranberry juice, and it is worth adding a glass of cranberry juice to our diet as it may help control RA flares. Have a nice weekend, everybody!
