Hi, OKD. There have been a few posts previously about Simponi, but

mostly under its generic name, golimumab.

Simponi is another anti-TNF biologic. It was approved by the FDA 24

Apr 2009 for RA.

Simponi is expensive.. I saw one quote of $18,900 per year, but there

is patient assistance available.

Anyways, its once a month as opposed to once a week (with Enbrel). Does anyone

have any info on it?

Hello, Joy.

So far, Cimzia (certolizumab pegol) is approved for only Crohn's

disease and RA (approved May 2009 for RA). Cimzia is yet another TNF

inhibitor.

I have tried, arava, prednisone, enbrel, humira and plaquenil.

 plaquenil i was  allergic too

enbrel, humira  I had to go off of because of repeated sinus and upper

respiratory infec.

Arava worked for me but my hair kept thinning.

So I was thinking of trying to go back on something because the psoriasis is

coming back.

I have been off the pred and arava for about a  year. Was just taking

Voltaren for swelling and pain.

Any suggestions?

Hi people I thought I would post about this new drug Cimzia, I have been on it

for afew months now and I think its starting to help me alot before my hands and

feet were swollen and in bad pain, it took awhile but I think its working for me

the only concern I have I seem to get a rash on my face soon after the injection

but not real bad my next dose is Saturday if I get it again I will call my Dr

and let them no. Has anybody else had this experience with cimzia. Is your Dr

thinking about starting you on this?.. Thanks Marie

I took MTX for awhile and it made me queasy so they switched

me the injections which I did better on but didn't seem to find

a lot of relief while on it. I did take prednisone for awhile too and

found myself packing on the pounds so finally weaned off that.

I do need to make an appt with my rheumie. I have not seen her

now in about a year.  I had to have a hysterectomy and went off

all meds for awhile, just thought I would try taking a break from

all the meds for awhile but I guess I need to get back on track again.

Hi Joy:  Have you ever been on Methatrexate?  Could you take Prednisone?  It is

awful to have those allergies to the meds. you were on.  When I got diagnosed 6

years ago, I started right off with Pred. and MTX.  I was on high doses of

Pred., plus, getting the shots from my Rheumy.  I started with the .6 of MTX

with the needles, as the pills made me deathly sick, 24/7.  I have taken as much

as 60 mg. a day of Pred. as she was trying to get me under control.  It took

awhile for these 2 meds. to start to work on me.  I am not familiar with a lot

of RA drugs, just what I take, and what I read here that our members take.  I

know you must be hurting, as well as frustrated that you can't take a lot of the

drugs successfully.

I hope your Rheumy can try some things for you so you can begin to feel better.

Everyone here takes what works for them.  As you know, what works for one, might

not work for someone else.  We search and search for that " magic cocktail " of

meds. that works for us.

Please rest when you can, and I hope you see your Rheumy soon.  You don't want

to get so bad that it takes a long time to get under some control.  I wish you

good luck and hope you feel better soon.

hugs,

Barbara

ME!

I have been on Cimzia since late May with excellent results and minimal side

effects, the only one being watery eyes.

Feel free to ask me any questions! It has been a lifesaver for me!

Kami

[ ] CIMZIA

Hello All,

Is there anyone on Cimzia? I went to the Rheumatologist today and he opted

for Cymzia instead of the Enbrel. According to him my inflammation markers

are higher and the Cimzia is stronger than the Enbrel. I have Lupus and RA

and I think these RA drugs are a catch 22 with my Lupus. Let me know how

you are doing with Cimzia and how long have you taken it.

Thanks

Vivian Cone

Kami,

Thanks. I just took the first dose yesterday. Last night I got a numb and

tingling tongue (better today). I am having some neck stiffness and pain -

sort of like when you are about to get a cold but I must say the pain in my

right hip is better. I am going to give this a try although the side

effects listed are pretty scary but I need to start feeling better for my

little boys.

Thanks again Kami

God Bless - Vivian

Vivian,

Come to think of it.... I had the same reaction during the loading phase. Once I

went down to 200mg every 2 weeks, it stopped. I must say I did feel better on

400mg every 2 weeks, though!

Before RA, I used to let listed side effects scare me from taking medications. I

thought Tylenol was evil at one point! Now I view things soooooo differently.

Sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks!

Keep in touch,

Kami

Hi Kami,

My Rheumy wants me to switch over to Cimzia.   Currently I am on Enbrel

25mg/weekly injection with some result.

Q: were you on any medication before Cimzia?

Thank you.

Mike
