Hi Sue, The only time I used the Inogen my only complaint was the battery don't last long enough. As far as equipment failure goes. I would call my 02 Co. and ask for a company where ever you are. They have contacts about everywhere. When we travel I take tanks and my concentrator in the car.  Love and Prayers, PeggyFlorida, ipf 6/04Worry looks around.Sorry looks back,Faith looks up. Hello  fellow groupies,                  My local o2 supplier will loan out their Sequal  Eclipse  concentrator – problem  is it’s  always reserved  when I want it.   Sooo, I am  considering  buying  one on my own.  I’ve contacted a couple of places on the web.               Does anyone  have  experience with this and what co did you  use?.   Have you ever been on the road and have equipment failure? Sue D.62 yr old,  NSIP dx 9/07,  O2 dependent 10/07

Sue,I have had an Inogen portable concentrator for almost a year. During that

time I used

it exclusively, as my only source of O2 both traveling and at home. I was on a

cruise and

it stopped working. I think it overheated, I had it on 5lpm the whole time.

Fortunately, it

was the end of the cruise, I spent a lot of time just sitting, I did have a

wheelchair and I

practiced pursed lips breathing. When we got home we called Inogen and they had

a new

one to me within 24 hours. I just returned from a trip to AZ with my poc, and

it worked

fine however, my flight was delayed almost 7 hours and I was on battery for 12

hours. In

the airport you can plug in (or in your car on the way) but if something goes

wrong with

the plane and you are sitting on the tarmac - you have nothing but your

batteries.

Batteries are supposed to last up to 3 hours, but they don't for me.(I travel

with 3 and they

are not light) It was scary coming home, I had to cut my litre flow to 2 and

practice that

deep breathing. I am planning on flying to San with it but I will be

more careful

about making sure I plug in at every opportunity, even when I'm told it will

just be " a short

wait " .

I just purchased a poc on the internet. I'll be taking it on a plane

in a couple weeks. It has 2 batteries for a total of 8 hrs. of O2.

The flight is non stop so hopefully there won't be any issues. I've

had no problem with using it at home. So much easier than hauling

around tanks! This illness keeps me tied down enough. I'm going to

visit my sister and enjoy some warm weather.

Kathie,

what is the arrangement for o2 during the flight ? can we use our

own portable or do we have to use their O2?

when we made enquiries on singapore Airlines to come to Us we were

told we have to use theirs and we have to pay for an extra seat and

the o2 as well, we are still trying other airlines

Geeta,

My flight was short, about 3 hours in the air. I was allowed to use my own O2

and my

portable concentrator (poc) fit under the seat in front of me. For a long

flight, though you

would have to be able to plug your unit in wouldn't you? That would take too

many

batteries, I think.

In addition to the actual flight time you need O2 from your house to the

airport, etc. If you

are able to travel with a poc be sure and plug it in for recharge every chance

you get.

Good luck, hope to see you in CA.

Kathy,

On my last flight I had to pay for o2. What airline did you use and did you take a M6 of E tank onboard? Thanks-

Many of the airlines allow portable concentrators (poc) now. I happened to be

on an

Alaska Air. My poc only goes to 5lpm and is pulse. I know that doesn't work for

everyone.

Hope this helps.

Geeta,

I had experience of long-haul air travel & needing O2 last Oct flying from Australia to the UK & returning from the Netherlands & Germany. Arrangements for O2 are different for long-haul flights than for domestic air travel.

I tried Singapore & Malaysian Air first & found both unsatisfactory because they could not or would not guarantee that I could travel until either the DAY of TRAVEL, or at best, on Malaysian Air, 2 weeks prior to travel. However you had to pay for your ticket at the time of booking! THAT WAS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE to go along with! I was travelling with 6 other family members & we couldn't be guaranteed that I would be allowed to board along with them!

You have to know how many AIR SECTORS you be be travelling on as well 'cos the O2 gets ordered separately for each sector. I was told by Singapore & Malaysian Air that I might get away on my 1st Sector okay but get held up on my 2nd Sector, UNBELIEVABLE! All to do with their engineers & capacity to have the O2 cylinders placed on board the aircraft for each sector! The return flight home would be the same unknown sitiuation......THIS is the dark ages folks....it's not as though we're asking to travel to the Moon & Back!

I ended up flying with QANTAS because they had a sensible policy & guaranteed my flight at the time of my booking the ticket. I had to get a Doctor's Certificate stating my fitness to fly & I had to have an 'Altitude Stimulation Test' done to see how much O2 I required & at what flow. That was expensive, as was the extra money I had to fork out for the O2 during flight.

I will be most interested to see how you manage to get your tickets & which airline company you choose. QANTAS won't be an option for you.

Bonnie May in Glasgow is going to face the same rigmarole....I hope she already knows this.

I found QANTAS overall to be quite good...some staff were better trained to deal with the O2 than others, some were rude but most were very helpful & concerned for my well-being. The O2 was there for each sector as ordered. My friend, who died recently from Mesothelioma, wasn't so lucky on his flight back home to the UK last year...on one sector the O2 was missing & he just had to put up with his breathing difficulty. I'm not sure who he flew with but that was a terrible state of affairs!

GOOD LUCK on this Geea, I hope you have a good, competent Travel Agent!

yes, i know its going to be a fankle and expensive but for me

its now or never. i wont do it further down the line. in fact

i had decided earlier that i wouldn't fly - mainly because of

the fear of picking up germs and infections but i realised that

that was just tooooo careful and now was the time to do it. the

nhs will do the flight assessment for free though - so thats

good.

went out looking for mother of the bride outfit today and didn't get

one but i now realise that i am going to have to buy something more

traditionally mib than i thought. my sister ellen came with me

and dispelled my hopes of a simple dress. she made me try things

i wouldn't have looked at before. was very encouraged by the reducing

shape of my body in some of them though. hee hee
