Guest guest
Hi To me it sounds like RA,dry eyes & mouth sounds like you have another possible problem attached to RA called Sgrogens.I recently had a test for the sygrogens awaiting on my results. It is a blood test and a litmus test for the eyes to check for moisture. I would see your doc as soon as you can.I was in s similar state a year ago and was diagnosed in October, and was told it is good to get it early as there is more chance of controlling the damage to your joints. I hope this helps I wish you all the best Tracey (UK) From: nwms3165 <nwms3165@...> Subject: [ ] Newbie: Five days of stiff sore hands-what has happened? Date: Tuesday, 14 July, 2009, 11:55 AM 5 days ago I woke up with sore stiff hands. I don't hurt at night, but this happens every morning and it is well enough about and hour or so. Now during the day I will feel little sensations of pains around my joint areas, not in the bone. I feel the heel of my foot bothering me the same way and now the balls and small areas on the bottom of my feet as well. Nothing to screem about , yet... I am 56 years old and in the past year got severe dry eyes, was never a drinker and now I drink 5-8 glasses of water a day and one - two at night. I only use to drink about 1/2 glass a day. I also got vaginal dryness too and my skin chaged tremendously. Can any one relate to this type of onset and does ths sound like RA to you? I it is in both my hands and feet. Some times I can feel it poke at my legs or hip, etc. The blood tests I took all came out normal?????? ? Still a bit distraught, but plan to beat it by taking the pain and continuing my life as best I can.> > Any information of what to expect next, would be greatly appreciated. > >Will exercise hurt or help? Guest guest
Hello... I'm sorry to hear your having such a hard time... I tend to drink more water then I've ever done in the past, but I believe its the medications that give me a dry mouth... Are you on any meds? I have a lot of problems with my hands and feet, but I deal with it all day and it normally gets worse in the evening hours (which is a little backward when dealing with RA). Stay tough and make sure you see a Rhuematologist... Just because your blood work is coming back fine, doesn't mean you are still okay... Best of luck Bonnie > > 5 days ago I woke up with sore stiff hands. I don't hurt at night, but this happens every morning and it is well enough about and hour or so. Guest guest
The actual name of it is Sjogren's Syndrome. I've found out that doctors haven't heard of it so don't know how to handle any complaints. For me it's a real battle sometimes. Everything from the collarbones up are affected. Throat, mouth, nose, eyes, and sinuses are all affected and can be real torture. I drink all the water I can find and it's still not enough. It also keeps you from hydrating other organs like Liver and Kidneys. It also damages the eyes from blinking with no lubricants. Another problem is no saliva, it keeps your mouth from maintaining the proper PH and cavities will blossom in no time. It also keeps my skin from natural oil production. My hands won't hold much because of the dryness, so I don't think I could leave fingerprints. It's a lot of fun, as if the RA isn't enough! Guest guest
I was tested for Sjogren's and it was negative, but I have all the symptoms and will treat them as best as possible. Dennis sorry you are having severe problems with this. Compared to yours, mine is minor. Can't believe I am saying that. But not sure it will get worse. I have decided to be most positive and eat well and exercise. No looking back now...all forward and beat it as best as possible. Thanks for the reply and good luck!! Guest guest
I also have Sjogren's. Some of my ways on dealing with this is I use lots of skin moisturizer even on my nails, suck sugar free hard candies & the eye moisture gels work very well. The worst is the dry mouth, people look at you like your on way too many pain pills and have cotton mouth so I keep hard candies everywhere. Good luck > > > > From: nwms3165 <nwms3165@... <nwms3165%40hotmail.com>> > > Subject: [ ] Newbie: Five days of stiff sore hands-what has > > happened? > > < %40> > > Date: Tuesday, 14 July, 2009, 11:55 AM > > > > 5 days ago I woke up with sore stiff hands. Guest guest
Welcome Norma, I'm sorry your having so many problems, but you have found a great place for answers. Our moderator works very hard for all of us, and we all have been through so much with our diseases. You can have RA, and have normal lab work. Do you have a rheumatologist? If not, I stress that you find one. It does sound like your having RA pain. The dryness can be sjogrens, another auto-immune disease. I have it, and its no fun. You really need to talk with a rheumy, and let them talk to you about what's going on. I have severe RA, and I am not really able to exercise. If I do, I sure have to pay for it. I am able to take care of myself, and my family, so that is what's important. Keep us posted, and hope you get some answers. If you have RA, you need to start a RA med, to help stop the progression now. There is also meds for the sjogrens, if its bad enough. I just use OTC artificial tears, and it really helps me. Good luck, and hope you feel better soon, Tawny > > 5 days ago I woke up with sore stiff hands. I don't hurt at night, but this happens every morning and it is well enough about and hour or so.
