Guest guest
! Your story pretty much mirrors mine; I started with a " sprained ankle " at 17 and have progressed from there. Guest guest
Welcome Huntingpenny! Nothing replaces experience with soapmaking. You seem to be educating yourself very well. True, soap can be tempermental. I make several olive oil soaps and each soapmaking session is as unique as the day it's done. I can't explain it. My formulas range from pure VOO to 40% VOO with coconut & palm. Occassionaly I'll use some canola in my soap. Just depends on the ultimate purpose of the soap. The only real issues I've had with VOO is tracing. All my liquid oil formulas have a small component of a rapid tracing oil. Like 98% VOO & 2% castor. That little bit makes a big difference stirring!! As far as th lye/water goes, I use a 1:1 ratio. 100grams lye to 100 grams water. This discount helps trace fast. Depending on the additives, (this is definitely an experience thing!!) I pour at a medium trace & into the oven it goes. My oven is not warm-it's just a convenient place to stash the soap. Eight martha molds fit perfectly. The heat inherent from the saponification process is enough with the insulating properties of the oven to make soap in about 8 hours--sometimes less. Making a few batches of soap will help you learn what you need to know. So much in soapmaking is technique. So little is quantifiable. That is why it's so addicting. The elusive " perfect " batch or formula or whatever!! Happy soaping!! Sandy I'm a newbie **Hello THere, My name is Huntingpenny and I am new to this group. I am also new to soap making, although I have been making ointments, balms, bath salts etc for ages. My question though, is does anyone have a fool proof recipe for Castille Soap? From what i have read, it appears that it can be a bit tempramental. Is this the case? Huntingpenny.

Guest guest
Welcome, , my name is too, but I go by Pat. I am the grandmother of a 13 year old not so high functioning autistic grandson. His name is Karac and I diagnosed him when he was three and have been doing his program every day since. I would love to read more about your son. Did you see Dr. Phyl's program this week with a family whose son has Aspergers with severe behavior problems? I thought it was interesting; particularly the FMRI of the difference in the normal brain and the Asperger's brain. Blessings, Pat K

Loves good smells - worries about offending odors coming near his nostrils. I think it is a part of his OCD. When he gets really bad, he carries around a can of air freshener, to the point I hate air fresheners now! He (and hubby - and he has OCD too) have always been sensitive sniffers, but my son's obsessions started when a child in his classroom passed gas and he was unable to escape initially. He finally got up and went to the teacher to move to another seat. But after that, he is on constant guard against offensive odors - if he " thinks " someone might have passed wind - he runs for the hills. Most of the time, they haven't. Oh my, the things OCD can do!

Guest guest
Hi ! I have a son, 17, with OCD and also Aspergers Syndrome. As to the odors with your son - well, he might just be very sensitive to that (not OCD), some kids are. My son was at a young age too. And even *me*. If it's just sensitivity in that he ates the odor, it might be that it's making him feel sick/nauseous and to him smells bad. Now - if it was OCD related, he might have a fear from the odor beyond the sensitivity. Is your daughter seeing anyone now for therapy or medication? School going OK? > > Hi everyone, > I think I was on this group when my daughter was first diagnosed. We > went through a cross country move, and I left my groups for a bit. My > name is . Any thoughts on if it's a good idea to cut back?- - Have you asked your doctor's opinion of cutting back? Just wondering what they thought about it. You mention you thought her med levels were high.... do you know what the average dosage of Zoloft is for a child her age? I was always worried every time our doc said we should increase my dd's med level. Finally I just asked " hey, what's considered 'average' or 'high' for doses of this drug?? " She explained that the level my dd was at was still considered low for the average patient her age. I guess that made me feel more comfortable. Guest guest
Her med does not sound high to me. My daughter has been on 200 mg since she was 12, and I do not believe Zoloft dosing is based on weight. As an aside, my husband functions well on only 50 mg, but my daughter requires a much higher amount to be functional. I am glad to hear your daughter is doing well. It's hard to tell (especially at this age) what is the autism and what might be something else. The eyelash pulling makes me think OCD, and the finger picking, but I just don't know. I am glad that I at least understand OCD better now so that if it becomes a problem for him that we can seek help sooner (since my daughter became pretty severe before we knew with her) > Is your daughter seeing anyone now for therapy or medication? School going OK? She was dismissed from counseling when we moved last summer (from Illinois to land). Her therapist said that she was dealing well with her OCD. Overall she is handling her worries very well. We have a developmental pediatrician who monitors her medication. I think her med levels are high though (Zoloft 100 mg, along with Straterra for ADD, she is 10 years old).
